Hi Corine,

It's been quite some time since your post below. I am also looking for information on your Joseph and Mary L Pruitt. They are my GGG-Grandparents through their son, James R. who, I notice, you don't have listed with his siblings below.

Have you had any luck in locating their parents since your post?? I've found Joseph and Mary in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census. And Joseph died sometime between 1880 and 1900 as I found Mary L listed as a widow in the 1900 Kaufman, Texas census.

I look forward to your reply.

Thanks,

Paul

Pruitts of Shelby & Talladega Cntys., Alabama, 1860-1890

Need help with these Pruitts from Shelby and Talladega Counties. Jane, Moses, Peter, Wesley, Sarah, Mary, Margrete, Robert, Frank, William, John and others in that general area of Alabama. These folks are my relatives and some of them came to East Texas (Polk and Trinity Counties) in the 1890-1900s. I have information and records of those who came to Texas, but have been unable to establish definite connections with those who remained in Alabama. Any help appreciated. I will share what I have.

My husband's people, spelled Pruett, were from AL in the later generations. I have been unable to find out who were the parents of his g-g-grandfather, Francis Marion Pruett who married Caroline Burgess. Francis Marion was born GA or AL according to census records, somewhere around 1832. He is often confused with another Francis Marion, same general time frame and area, and some online trees have intermixed the families. They may be related, but are distinctly different people. Would appreciate you sharing your info. If you are the family who has a 30 to 31 match with my family, it seems to indicate a common ancestor.

Rachel was the daughter of James Alfred Head and Elizabeth Seale; She married first a James Pruett, and then after his death she married Hilsman King. I have goodly amount of material on James A. Head family and some on Rachel Head. My family tradition has it that James Pruett and Jessie, son of James Head and Elizabeth Seale was kidnapped and or killed by Indians sometime prior to the Civil War. James A. Head had deeded James Pruett some land, which was his custom as his children married.
Yes, this is my family! We don't have a clue where Grandfather, Rolland Fitzroy Pruitt, was born we think maybe Tenn??? but have a new lead in Kansas ???? Still not a father's name but with this family in 1900 in Kansas
Widow Lydia Pruitt age 53 born in Va .. with three children:
John F. is 24 born in Kansas; Rolla F is 18 born in Ark; a sister Fanny J born 1888 and one sister, Lydia Mary Pruitt died at 19 years on March 30 1895 .. buried in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Kansas.
We sent last Friday going to Dexter (no luck) and finally found a library death list in the Winfield Library and Lydia Mary Pruitt was buried in the OLD DEXTER CEMETERY on Mary 20, 1895. Am going to go back and see if we can have her name added to the list because there are so many graves without names.
John & Rolla father was born in Virginia per census.
So we are still searching for Rolland Fitzroy Pruitt...
any leads out there on this above family. Hope someone can help us!!! Diane
I know a little about this line. Adelia was my Great - grandmother. Mordicai John and Adelia got divorced ----

Mordicai John Pruitt: b. 12 July 1849 in Allen Co KY d. 17 April 1918 in Jackson Co. GA buried in Pruitt
cemetery (also known as old Dunklin cemetery) in Rusk Co TX (just east of Smith Co)
married: Adelia Corasandra Boucher: b. 21 July 1851 in KY m. 16 Dec. 1869 in Sumner Co TN d. unknown date buried in Lindale, TX

Adelia Corasandra Boucher was the postmistress in Lindale, Smith Co., TX in 1892, 1898 and ? In Van, TX there was a community called Pruitt. Today, in front of the Pruitt Baptist Church, is a memorial plague that tells about Adelia Corasandra Boucher Pruitt, postmistress and what used to be Pruitt, TX. (not to be confused with the other Pruitt community in Cass Co TX, south of Linden TX) The Pruitt homestead in Lindale, TX is still in the family.

My paternal greatgrandfather, Samuel Henry Gill, is the grandson of Sarah Jane Pruett, b 1804 in Whitely Co, Kentucky.
She is the daughther of William Pruett and Sarah DeMoss.
My maternal great grandmother, Nancy Ethel Fish, is the great great granddaughter of Margarit Pruitt, daughter of Jacob Pruitt and Nancy Richey.
That I do not know. 1942-1945 was in the time dad was in the air corp. States that I suspect would be N.C., Tenn., Okla., and Texas, but I really don't know. I simply have the photograph with my mom's handwriting that identifies each person by given name and the date of the photo OR the date she aquired the photo.

Ed Pruitt injured on job, Mobile, AL 1909

From the Mobile, Alabama Newspaper

Tuesday, July 13, 1909

"Electrician Ed Pruitt met with rather a peculiar accident on the wharf early yesterday morning. He went up inside one of the banana elevators to do some work. In some manner, he fell down a flight of stairs and cut his forehead severely. He was feeling badly when he went to work, and it is supposed that the excessive heat in the top of the elevator made him faint. No one knew he had been hurt until he walked out of the structure bleeding. Surgical aid was summoned, and he was taken home. His injuries are not serious."
Not my line, just sharing.

No 1890 Fed Census. 1900-Mossie Pruit. 1910-Mose Prenet. 1920-Mose pruit. 1930-Masie Prwit. Burial - Benningfield Chapel Cemetery, LaRue Co., Ky. Hope this helps. My email is vicknlar@msn.com. My Grandfather was John Pruitt, son of Moses and Lucy.

Larry J. Mongan
