I hope this email finds you. I am helping a set of triplets research their family tree. They are Pryors who have a grandfather Harold C. Pryor, b about 1920-24, place unknown. He was married to a Mina mae ? from California. I have found no the 1930 census a Harold C Pryor living with his father John S. Pryor and mother and grandfather Richard C. Pryor in Pueblo, CO. I then found him in CA enlisted in the Army for WW2. Do you know anything about this line of your family? Do you know if this Harold was married to a Mina Mae (unknown last name)? THanks for thehelp.

Melissa Richards
Texas

Would you please look in this book on the Pryors and see if there is any information on Elizabeth Pryor? She married Henry Taylor, and she was born 1775, died 1855. The area seems to be in Montgomery Co., VA. I looked in the court records in Montgomery Co, but could not find records on Elizabeth nor Henry. So I'm not 100% sure she is from this county. I have been stumped for so long on this particular line, that I would love to finally find information on their origins. If I could find the parents and location of Elizabeth Pryor, that would be wonderful! Thank you.

A Morris, or Maurice, Pryor was married to my maternal grandmother's sister, Octivia Williams, during the period of about 1917 to 1927.He was from Maryland--around Hagerstown, I believe-- and trained for the Army at Camp Greene in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, NC. My mother and an aunt pronounced his name "Morris," but his death certificate gives the spelling as "Maurice." He and Octivia were estranged when she died in 1930. He stayed in the Mecklenburg County area, remarried, and died in 1963.

Hi Jackie
Thanks for prompt reply. I thought you were in Canada!Looks like you are only 20-30 miles from us.Glad the info was of use, I am still looking for Florence, but assume her parents are Alfred & Isabella, Faringdon.I did find a Florence emigrating in Sept 1904 with her family, but her parents are Samuel(30) and Florence(29)
Thank you for offering help with Henry Pryor. We cannot trace his birthplace or actual date, as the census lists London for birth, then later ones say Bampton. We have copied lots of Bampton Pryors from the Parish Registers in Oxford from the 1600's onwards, and are now trying to link them up.Do you Know if Charlotte was Henrys mother? We are also interested in Susan,Georges sister, as she is the one that carried our Pryor line forward. Her son Joseph Pryor is Great Grandad. He carried on the family trade of stonemason and died falling from a brick wall.He worked on the Buscot estate.Hope you can fill in some of our gaps.Maybe we could communicate by email if you need any Pryor info,or the whereabouts of the passenger lists.
Sandra

Hi, Sandra,
I had almost given up hope of finding anything else out about John Fred!!! But your info does fill in some of my blanks, so many thanks.
I suppose we are not really related at all, except by some remote "in-law-ship"!!
My husband's father's maternal grandmother was a Hobbs. Her brother was Florence's father, who also raised father-in-law, as his mother was an unmarried domestic servant. All somewhat complicated, I think, even more so if only you knew the whole story!!
If you could find out when Florence travelled for me I would be extremely grateful.
As I live only 7 miles or so from Bampton, can I help at all with your research regarding Henry?
Jackie

Hi, Hope this helps. We are also researching the Pryor family in Bampton.I found this information for you on another website for Passenger lists. It says John Fred Pryor of Buckland, Faringdon, labourer, age 25,ship "Andania"-Cunard line. Departure date 25 January 1923. Bound for Halifax & Boston from Liverpool.Column ticked for not accompanied by wife.
Also found entry for John Pryor (no address given),ship "Victorian",departure 13 January 1921 from Liverpool, dest. Canada St.John NB, Canadian Pacific Railway Atlantic Steamship Line.Might this be him also as it fits with your dates.
My husbands family is descended from Henry Pryor,1820, stonemason of Bampton, his son George being the father of John Frederick Pryor.
Are you a direct descendent and so a distant relation?

PS I have not found Florence yet but will carry on looking.

Peter Cartwright Pryor of Illinois

I am searching for Peter Cartwright Pryor b.1858 in Illinois, to Samuel Mortimer Pryor/Pryar and Zerelda Ellen Nicholson.
I find him in the 1870 Census for Quincy Fifth Ward, Adams County, Illinois and then the 1880 Census for Kingman, Kansas.
I know he married about 1881 to Lidia Belle Wilkinson and they had 3 children. The last child, Fred W. Pryor was born in MO in 1890. I cannot find anything regarding him after this timeframe. Lidia Belle is in the 1900 Census for Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana and listed as Head, Widow and living with her 3 children, her father Asbury Wilkinson, Chester D. Dickinson a boarder (she later married) and a Will Pryor that was orphaned on the steps of her home. I am guessing something happened between 1891-1900, but what?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've been searching for parents for my 3rd, great-grandfather, Wesley Prior/ Pryor. His name is spelled both ways on records I've found. My Wesley was born about 1822, Tn. Married about 1840/41 to Sarah Frances Heady. I've found no marriage record. According to death records on their children, Henry (b) Feb 2, 1842, Thomas & Elizabeth all born in Trigg Co., Ky. By 1850 they are in Mississippi Co., MO. and 1860 they are in Montgomery Co., MO. He had other children, amongst them John, James, Joseph, etc. Could this be your Wesley, also ?
chero@webound.com.

My line goes, Samuel Pryor (1693-1766) and Mary Prudence Thornton(1699-?)to Joseph Pryor (1730-1785) and Mary Logsdon (born abt 1766)to Thornton Pryor (1777-1830 Ky)and Mary Polly Nance.
I believe your line may go, Samuel Pryor (1693-1766) and Mary Prudence Thornon to Samuel Pryor (1725-1766) and Fancis Morton Merriweather to John Alexander Pryor and Martha Vaughn to Joseph Everett Pryor.
My Pryors all ended up in Kentucky. Origially in the Bourbon County area and later in Owen, Trimble and Henry Cos.
Let me know if you think the above fits.
Re: Pryor's of Wilson Co., Tennessee

HOW EXCITING!!!!!! I'm Vanessa the webmaster of the TN Pryor website (http://www.tnpryors.com. I think I can ID Josephine Pryor. Can we get a copy of the photo for the website? Also would like to know how your family may be related to her. You never know... it may tie up a loose end on a Pryor line of genealogy.

Josephine born 1861 is the daughter of Thomas Pryor b. 1814 and wife Tabitha C. Pryor. Thomas and Tabitha were in Wilson Co., TN for the 1850 and 1860 Census. Josephine had sisters Sarah J. b. 1849 who died in Wilson Co. in 1860 (she's on the mortality schedule), Sarilda/Lucinda Jones Brien b. 1850, Labrossia b. 1854 and died before 1870, and Roxanna Pryor Groves b. 1856.

In 1870 Tabitha was a widow and counted in Franklin Co., IL. http://www.tnpryors.com/states_census/il_e-l.htm By 1920 Josephine Pryor Purcell was counted still in Franklin Co. with her uncle Alfred Pryor living in the household. Alfred was a son of Allen Pryor and Cinderella from Jackson Co., TN. The 1920 establishes a link between these two Pryor families from different TN counties.

email_vanessa@tnpryors.com
Henry W. Pryor was in parents household on the 1870 Census in Bourbon Co., KS. The census extraction is on the Tennessee Pryor website http://www.tnpryors.com/states_census/ks.htm

Andrew Pryor, Henry's father was on the 1860 Census in Barton Co., MO and in 1850 in Jasper Co., MO. Andrew's father was John T. Pryor born about 1788 in KY.

Athough the subject line of this message thread is re Logan Pryor and Andrew Pryor, have no known connection to John T. Pryor and his descendants and there is no data to hint of a connection. Logan Pryor from Overton Co. TN was the father of Andrew Pryor. Logan's parents were James and Nancy Pryor. Information on this line is on the Tennessee Pryor website http://www.tnpryors.com/histories/james_&_nancy.htm
Florence Pryor arrived in Canada on 30 Aug 1929 at Montreal, Quebec. She left Liverpool on the Dutchess of York. Her place of birth was listed as Faringdon.

I found an immigration card completed when she crossed the border from Buffalo into Canada in 1947 (she was arriving back from a trip to UK by plane). It states at the bottom that she entered Canada in September (sic) 1929 on the SS Dutchess of York.

This doesn't go with a 1923 marriage date.

Barb, I found an old posting and hope you still keep in touch with the site. From what I read, you and I are researching the same line.
My Pryors lived in Ill and the county of henry in ky as well as henderson an mc cracken. the ILL counties were pope and massac.
John Alexander A Pryor was the great great grandfather of my grandmother Maudie Pryor Pagragan.
Maudie's father was William Logan Pryor born 27 Feb. 1876 and died in Henderson, Henderson, Henderson County, Kentucky 5 Sept 1954.
His father was Anson Gibbs Pryor born in Ill. 30 Dec. 1849 and married to Martha Cole. His father wa Daniel Farley Pryor who was born 14, july 1799 an married to Nancy Louis Risinger. His father was John Alexander A Pryor born 1750 in, Amelia, Va. and married to Martha Vaughn.
I think we have alot in common.
I am going to the library tomorrow in Ky and see what I can find. You can contact me at 812-719-0887 any day. My email is sprinkle.sherry@gmail.com
Hope to hear from you.

Yes, this is the line with Samuel and Francis Morton Merriwether. My question is where did you go to find your proof on Samuel and Prudence( Thornton)that they were the parents of Samuel who was married to Francis and the mother and father of John who was married to Martha Vaughan.
My line then is John and Martha ( VAughan) parents of Daniel Farley Pryor b. 14 July 1799 henry co. ky died 28 dec. 1863 pope co. illinois. He married Nancy Louis Risinger 21 Feb. 1838 in Pope Co. ILL. They were the parents of Anson Gibbs Pryor b. 30 Dec. 1849 in Massac Co. Ill. and died 17 Jan. 1973 in Evansville Indiana Vanderburgh Co. He was married to Martha Cole 31 Aug 1873 in Massac Co. Ill. They were the parents of William Logan Pryor 27 Feb. 1876 Kentucky d. 5 Sept. 1954 Henderson, Henderson, Co. Kentucky he was married to Mary Quinton 19 Dec. 1897. They had my grandmother Maudie Lee Pryor Pagragan, b. in Hopkinsville, Christian Co. Ky. 18 April 1901 married Francis Pagragan in 1919 in Henderson, Henderson Co. Kentucky and they had my father Ernest Griffin Hale Pagragan. Francis actually adopted my father when he was 6 months old.
I just want to make sure that the connection to Samuel and up the line is my correct line. I know this is a lot of information but I have alot in my files and I would like to connect it and make sure it is right before I transcribe it.
thanks sherrie

I have come across a John E. Pryor in the 1880 Boone Twp, Wright County, MO census that I can't find listed in any other census. John is listed as 23, born in MO and both parents being born in MO. His wife is listed as Sarah aged 30 and being born in SC with both parents from NC. There is a stepson William R. aged 12 and born in MO, a daughter Aletha E. aged 2 and born in MO. Does anyone have any info on this family.

Re: JOHN FREDERICK PRYOR

When Florence arrived in August 1929 she was returning to Canada, having arrived in England 16th March '29 on the SS Montclare.
The marriage is definitely correct. There is also, online, a copy of an affidavit signed by John Pryor, on 5th September, regarding Florence's residency in Ontario for the 15 days preceding the marriage, which includes the names of both their parents.
It seems odd that with all that proving they were there, no record seems to show when they arrived!!

JOHN FREDERICK PRYOR

John Frederick Pryor was born in Bampton, Oxon, England in 1898. At some point in about 1920-21 he emigrated to Canada, but I can find no record of exactly when. He returned to England, via New York, in December 1922. By September 1923 he was back in Toronto, but still can find no record of exactly when. On 15th September 1923, in Toronto he married Florence Hobbs, of Faringdon, Berkshire, England (born 1896). I have a record of the marriage, but no record of when she arrived in Canada. Can anyone please help me sort out the how and when of their arrivals??

Re: Birth date of Joseph Pryor so Samuel & Prudence Thornton

This Joseph Everett Pryor was son of John Alexander Pryor, as was his brother, my ancestor, Daniel Farley Pryor. Please contact me; I don't know of any proof or solid leads that their JEP and DFP's father was Samuel Pryor.
They are probably related as they are all in the same area at the same time, but there are too many John Pryor's in the Louisville area for me to sort them out so far.
My John Alexander Pryor believed to be born 1751 in Amelia Co VA, moved his family to Jefferson Co. KY, the Louisville area, near the end of the Revolutionary War.
Joseph Everett Pryor listed his birthplace in 1786 as KY in his War of 1812 paperwork.
JAP and family in Henry and Shelby Counties and then JAP is "gone to Gallatin" in 1809-1810. Most of his kids marry Tanners, and most then move to Livingston Co KY and across the border in Pope/Massac Co. IL where they live for 100 years.
Love to share information.

Reading through these posts has made me curious. What does this line of Pryor's look like? My grandfather has the DNA of a Pryor from the Matthew Pryor/Mary Neely line but took the name of Findley/Finley. The family he said he lived with is very closely connected to the Pryor families in MO, AR & OK and the Young and McCain families in Wright Co., MO.

Would love to see a picture of this line if anyone has them to share.
