My father is a foster child from N.Y.C. so the information i have is sketchy. My father, Richard has a twin brother named Alfred and another brother named "Tony" or "Anthony." they believe their mother' name was "Mary Pulaski" she either married someone with the last name James or at least fathered these three children. Rumor has it that brother Tony once tried contacting my father several times but my father never made himself available to him. Mary might have a sister living in Vermont.

Antoni Pulaski

According to an article written by Edward Pinkowski, an expert on Casimir Pulaski, these are the descendents of Antoni Pulaski.

Anthony (Antoni) Pulaski died February 28, 1813 in Korytyszcze, Poland and was buried in a vault under the stone floor of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary Church in Berezdow in the province of Wolyn in the Ukraine. That church has since been torn down and the location of his grave remains a mystery.

Antoni Pulaski married Antonia Oranski in 1778. His only child Kazimierz Adam Pulaski was born in 1784 in Korytyszcze and died in 1856.

Antoni Pulaski's grandson Adam Elisz Pulaski was born in 1806 and died in 1882. His son Kazimierz Ferdynand Pulaski was born in 1846 and died in 1926.

Hope this helps someone in their research.
Casimir Pulaski Reinterment Postponed Until 2005

Interment of Pulaski's Remains is Postponed

The City of Savannah, Georgia has determined that it must postpone the Brig. Gen. Casimir Pulaski Reinterment and Funeral until 2005. City officials have explained that the decision was necessitated by the fact that this summer, Savannah will be the host site for the G-8 meeting, an event which has evoked strong demonstrations in previous host cities, requiring heightened security at budget-busting costs. The resulting costly expenditures will leave no funds for handling the Pulaski funeral.

There are, however, some positive aspects as a result of the postponement. A new civic center is under construction, which should be completed in 2005 and could provide a new and more adequate venue for the funeral Mass instead of Forsythe Park where it was scheduled this year. DNA evidence to establish that the remains, which were discovered in the Pulaski Monument, are undeniably those of Pulaski, will be available later this summer.

I was wondering if anyone is researching Michael PULASKI/POLASKI and his wife Julia. They immigrated from Poland, near the German border about 1880, settling in New York. The 1900/1910/1920 censuses show them in Cattaraugus County, where they died in 1926 and 1927 respectively. They had eight children who survived, one of whom was my ggrandmother Madeline/Magdalina Pulaski. If anyone else has anything, please post a message! Thanks.

Examples:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casimir_Pulaski
This Wikipedia entry begins, "Kazimierz Pulaski (in the USA referred to as Casimir Pulaski) (March 6, 1745 – October 11/15, 1779) . . ."

http://www.poles.org/Lenkiewicz.html
This translated article by a Polish man, Antoni Lenkiewicz, who wrote an extensive biography of Pulaski, "Kazimierz Pulaski (1745-1779)", mentions the "Cassimir" spelling on the box of Pulaski's remains. It also gives the names of his five sisters: "There were five sisters: Anna -- canoness in a Warsaw institution; Malgorzata -- wife of Adam Skilski; Monika -- wife of Stanislaw Rohozinski; Jozefa -- wife of Marcin Slawoszewski, and Paulina -- wife of Antoni Suffczynski."

http://www.continentalline.org/articles/0004/000402.htm
No variations of Casimir's own name, but provides name of his younger brother, Antoni, now buried "in the Ukraine."

QUERY: Casimir Pulaski -- if you think you are related -- DNA report 2005 -- Promna, Poland Photo

If you think you are related to Revolutionary War hero Casimir Pulaski, you should read this article:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8308992/
which is an Associated Press report dated June 21, 2005 titled "Revolutionary War mystery still unsettled: DNA results fail to resolve question about hero’s fate."

Dr. James C. Metts, Jr. produced a 2005 report which has DNA comparisons of known relatives of Casimir Pulaski. Dr. Metts, the Chatham County coroner (based in Savannah, Georgia) tried to find descendants of Pulaski to use their DNA to confirm that the bones recently reburied really are his bones. (See other posting here on this Ancestry.Com message board regarding the reburial).

The report was made public after the Associated Press demanded it, but the County may have to charge you for copying and mailing it. I could not get an address or phone number for the office off the internet; someone will have to bite the bullet and call 411. :)

The DNA report should be great help; it probably has a section on the genealogical research they did to locate the great-niece buried in Poland in 1934, and his brother, Antoni.

See also the photo I have attached here, with information about the Polish village of Promna, where some of Pulaski's relatives are buried. Knowing the name of the town may help with European research.

The photo is copied here under the Fair Use provisions for non-commercial research use, qualifying under subsections (1) - (4) of U.S. Code Title 17 Chapter 1 Sec. 107 regarding copyrights.

"Where can I obtain more info According to my deceased paternal grandmom, he was an uncle to her mom Mary Karwarczyk, from Warsaw. Mary settled in Mass, late 1800
Sandra Rockwood Ruscetta"
======================
Sandra, you should begin by getting biographies of Pulaski -- your library has some, and will get more if you ask -- and by checking encyclopedia entries on him to get the names of his parents, and, most importantly to you, his siblings. Your great-grandma Mary must have been his niece through one of those siblings.

You should also read this article:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8308992/
which is an Associated Press report dated June 21, 2005 titled "Revolutionary War mystery still unsettled: DNA results fail to resolve question about hero’s fate ". Try to get in touch with Dr. James C. Metts Jr., the Chatham County coroner (based in Savannah, Georgia), who tried to find descendants of Pulaski to use their DNA to confirm that the bones recently reburied really are the bones of Casimir Pulaski. (See other posting here regarding the reburial).

Dr. Metts produced a 2005 report which will probably have all the known detail on the genealogy of Casimir Pulaski. You have a right to a copy of the report, which has been made public, but the County may have to charge you for copying and mailing it.

See also the photo I have attached here, with information about the Polish village of Promna, where some of Pulaski's relatives are buried. The DNA report should be wonderfully helpful. Best wishes on your search, Lisa

spelling of Kazimir Pulawski

Why is it that the spelling on the General's Ancestral home back in the Homeland and the most common spelling of his name in America different? The Polish American Museum in New York spells his name Kazimir Pulawski, but in Georgia and Illinois and almost everywhere in the US the name is spelled Pulaski.
Also, I am confused about all the people with the Pulaski or Pulawski or Polaski name that are said to be directly descended from Kaz, because he was not a married man. He had a few brother's and a sister that never left Poland, and I have read that she was in a Religious Order. One brother was killed by the Russian Occupiers at a young age before Kaz left Europe. The DNA testing that has been recently conducted on the remains found in his tomb in Georgia are being compared to his brother's decendants for probable verification.
Is this spelling riddle a Peking/Beijing, Rome/Roma sort of thing or are there two different family lines?
