I am trying to find out what happened to this man. I cannot find anything about him after the 1871 census. He was born in 1856 in Greenwich London England.
He could be part of the last surviving ancestor to this family in East London.

Thanks

Any other infor on their family tree/history would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to build a family tree for my Father Anthony Pullman (one of three sons that Harry had. The other two were Gerrald and Michael Pullman. I am sure many of our family still live in the South Wales area.

Hello,

I am very interested in the history of the Pullman family and will tell you what I know of my family. My grandmother, Virginia Louise Pullman (maiden name) told me that their family originally came from York England. There were 7 brothers, 6 of whom came to America. Some of the original brothers were John (who supposedly stayed in England), Peter (I have a picture of him), and Garbutt or Garbard. Somehow, we are supposed to be related to the Pullmans of railroad fame and my grandmother's mother did indeed receive free railroad passes and knew relatives in the Chicago area. My Pullman family lived in Alexandria, Virginia. My great uncle, E. H. Pullman died 5 years ago. He was the last of my direct line of Pullmans. Does any of this sound familiar?

I am searching for descendants of Updike and Ruth Cooper Pullman of Norway, Herkimer County, New York. They had 13 children following their marriage in Connecticut in 1801. All of the children were born in Norway, NY. I am descended from one of their three daughters who married men named Bennett. I know about Josiah and Mercy Pullman Bennett and William R. and Esther Pullman Bennett; I need information on my gggrandparents, I believe their names were Asa and Melinda Pullman Bennett. Their daughter, Laura, first married Henry A. Clemence, was widowed, and married Francis E. Truax in Durhamville, NY in April 1868.

More Info

I found him in the 1880 census. He was born 1877 in Michigan. His father was Charles Pullman born in 1854 in New York and His mother was Ella, born 1856 in Michigan. At the time of the census they had Arza and an infant daughter Mertie A. Pullman. I haven't found Arza's wife Enza in the census so she was probably born after 1880. They had five children: Willis LaVerne, Wilfred Joseph, Zelma, Zella Grace, and Zola. Willis and Wilfred married sisters Nellie and Mildred Gibbs, daughters of Victor Bois Gibbs and Elizabeth Jane Olmsted. If anyone's connected or knows of this family I would love to correspond!

Karina
NotOCasey@aol.com

Looking for any info about Arza Levi Pullman. All I know is that he married Enza Grace Wheeler and he lived in Michigan. They were my great-great grandparents. They had at least one son Willis LaVerne Pullman. I don't know where he was born so it's difficult finding records and anything about him or his wife would be so wonderful.

Karina
NotOCasey@aol.com
ButterflyKFMB@hotmail.com

I found yr notice interesting as I to am looking into the Pullman family. My mums father was Ernest Pullman Poole who was told that he was from the Pullman Coaches family. I myself I'm lost as the Pullman's originated from N. York and my grandfather (a cabinetmaker on trains) came from Doncaster England and then moved to Belfast Northern Ireland he was born in 1874 and died in 1937. I would be grateful for any help.
Hello,
I thought I already posted this here but maybe not. Last Fall, I created a mailing list for people who are researching their ancestors who worked for the Pullman Company or who lived in the community of Pullman near Chicago. The name of the list at Rootsweb is Pullman-Company-L.

To subscribe, send a message to: Pullman-Company-L-request@rootsweb.com and type the word SUBSCRIBE on the subject line and send.

I also set up a sort of "companion" list at Yahoo eGroups. The site is at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PullmanCompany/Researchers
On the Yahoo site, you can subscribe at the site and post photos, etc. of your Pullman-employed ancestors, etc.

Both lists focus on genealogy and history for the Pullman Company.

Peggy Dyas
List Administrator for:
Pullman-Company-L at Rootsweb
and
PullmanCompanyResearchers at Yahoo eGroups

Re: George M. Pullman

I was just browsing as I have been bidding and looking up material on the internet regarding George Pullman. When I was a little girl I lived in the hamlet of Fleming, NY where I believe your George M. Pullman, Jr. lived. This was in the forties and fifties. He lived a sort of hermit life and was know by the locals as being of the Pulllman family. He used to sit out on his porch steps all the time drinking his beer, which he used to buy across the road at the Larkin Store (now closed).
I had no knowledge of his ancestors only that he was related to George M. Pullman of the Pullman Industries. My husband worked for an antique collector at one time and this man bought a pullman suitcase filled with pullman momentos.
He paid a "pretty penny for it" I understand. Every year when the town of Fleming would have a Fireman's Field Day, old George would lead the parade. He was like a hobo. I probably can't tell you any more unless I ask my Aunt maybe she will remember something about him as she lived in the hamlet, also. Most of the people are dead and gone now.
Good Luck, Shirley

Its possible that the Pullman family genealogy is a fake, perpetrated in the 19th century by a man called Anjou. In my family there is also a tradition that there is a connection to the Pullman family, of railway fame. It seems impossible to search for this connection without coming up against this fake genealogy (on Family Search it takes you suspiciously rapidly and efficiently back to one of the First Families!). It would fit in with my information of the family originated in West Yorkshire, England and emigrated to America some time in the 18th century.
