In the new Pennsylvania records just released at Ancestry.com, I found that a John and Margretha Puttman had Sarah born January 29 and baptized November 9, 1783, in Christ Lutheran Church, Upper Mount Bethel, Northampton, PA.
This appears to be the only known record of John Puttman’s wife’s name, and it is however just a first name. John Puttman also appears to have been the same person as John Potman or Pottman who removed from Upper Mount Bethel, PA, to Luzerne Co., PA, by 1790, and later removed to Cattarraugus Co., NY.
John Puttman/Pottman was the son of Victor Pottman and his wife Margaret Wies.
Sarah Puttman would have been the Sarah Putman who married James Sims and was born in 1783, PA. Sarah and James likely married in Luzerne Co., PA, and later removed to Pulteney, Steuben Co., NY.
It is interesting that this Putman family used the name Potman in the Dutch Reformed Church while in the Christ Lutheran Church of Upper Mount Bethel it used the spelling Puttman.
