FYI---Wheatland is a county in Montana. The only town of any size in Wheatland County is Harlowton, Montana.

Marjorie Ann Huysentruyt

Marjorie Ann Huysentruyt Passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009, at the age of 81. Marjorie is survived by her five children, including four sons: Kurt in San Francisco, Marc in Point Richmond, Peter in Pacifica and John in New Hampshire; and one daughter, Jo Marie Streich in San Francisco. Marjorie was blessed with nine loving grandchildren: Kurt's children Rachel and Claire in San Francisco; Marc's children Caleb and Cassandra in Hawaii and Bel Air; Jo Marie's children, Megan and Madeline Streich in San Francisco and Australia; and John's children Hans, Liesel and Anna Huysentruyt in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. In addition, Marjorie has two great-grandchildren: George and Emily Huysentruyt in Hawaii. She has two daughter-in-laws, Deborah, married to Kurt and Linda married to Peter. Marjorie is also survived by her brother Larry Putman of Burlingame and several nieces and nephews. Marjorie's husband, Joseph Huysentruyt, preceded her in death in 1974. Marjorie and Joe were longtime residents of Burlingame, CA. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena parish where she was very active in the choir. She sang soprano for many years at parish services, including soloist at many weddings. She and her husband, Joe, were also active members of the parish Christian Family Movement, as well as other organizations supporting the church and parish school. She was a member of the first graduating class at St. Catherine of Siena School and attended Mercy High School in Burlingame. Marjorie and her siblings (Larry, Jack and Betty) were raised in Burlingame, where their parents Mary Elizabeth and Oswald Omar Putman owned and operated Putman's Food Market on Burlingame Avenue. The family would like to express special thanks to the many attentive and cheerful caregivers at Westborough Manor in San Bruno, CA. Donations may be made to either St. Martin de Porres House of Hospitality (www. martinde porres.org) or St. Catherine of Siena Choir in Burlingame (www.stcsiena.org). Marjorie will be remembered for her beautiful voice, love of a good debate and her enjoyment of the company of her children and grandchildren. Funeral services are in conjunction with Neptune Society of Northern California and a family service is planned for a future date.

Troy was a son of Chelsea Leroy Putnam and his first wife. He was born in Greer County Oklahoma March 2, 1916 and then went to California with his dad and new mom. Here they are in Los Angeles in 1930:

He is 37 OK MI MI (should be OK MI IL) and his wife Wyona is 30 OK. Both work in a dry cleaning shop, which they probably own. They have been married 9 years. Chelsea was married earlier and the first two kids are by the earlier wife. They have Anson L. 18 OK, Troy L. 16 OK, Chelsea Junior 8 OK and George W. 1 CA. He is a son of Anson Wesley Putman and Frances Sedalia Gilstrapp from Green County Oklahoma. His dad was from Michigan and the line goes back to Montgomery County New York. Dutch family. The son Troy LaDieu Putman was born March 2, 1916 and died in Texas June 7,1963. He was a master sergeant in the Air Force in WWII. The son Anson Leroy Putnam was born February 25, 1912 in Greer, Oklahoma and will die in March 1979. He is buried in Kingman, Mohave County Arizona. His wife Mary Myrtle is buried next to him. She was born July 5, 1910 in Russell County Virginia and died in July 1983.

He is 50 IA US US and runs a grocery store. His wife Rose Groves is 45 AR and they have Margaret 14 MO. He looks to be the son of Charles and Julia Putnam as shown in 1900 in Harrison County, Iowa. They were here in 1920. He was born December 25, 1879 and will die here in Fort Worth December 30, 1968. Rose was born December 23, 1884 and will die here April 15, 1970.

He was a son of Percy Charles Putnam and Margaret MacDonald from Houlton, Maine.

Here is my entry for the 1930 Montana:

MARY PUTMAN Great Falls, Cascade County
Mary Thompson is 40 MT, and has Margaret 14 MT, Dorothy 13 MT and Horace 9 MT. She was here in 1920 married to Horace Putnam, a son of the following Percy Putnam and Margaret McDonald. She says she is married now, but Horace isn’t around. They must be getting divorced. Mary will die here in Wheatland, Montana September 8, 1958. Horace will die in Contra Costa, California June 29 1963 and have a wife named Mabel out there.

I don't know when they split, or when he married Mabel. If you have more, I'll add it in. Also If you need more info going back, let me know or just go to my website and work back in the census records to Maine and Percy then his folks Alvarez Gonsalvo Putnam and Lydia Ham from Houlton.

DAR is not that expensive anymore. Most of the documents needed are available through ancestry.com. With the exception of a few more current birth certificates and death certificates. I already have most of what I need. I just need the proof of connection to Aaron, and a few birth and death certificates of my more recent family members.

I am currently trying to join DAR. I am a decentant of John Putnam, whos great great great grandson Aaron was a soldier in the American revolution. Aarons son Cornelius is where the information in the census records seem to have a break, anyone have infor on how to prove the connection of Cornelius to Aaron??

Looking for info on Horace J Putnam b. 1891 Great Falls, MT, wife Mary Thompson. Had son Horace Putnam b 7 Dec. 1920 in Great Falls and died 12 Dec. 1991 in Olmsted, Minn. I would dearly love to have a copy. My mother would be
so proud. She was Rowena Ruth Steele. Her mother Anna Laura
Alvy married Charlie Steele. She was a sister to Nell's mother, Robert Ann Alvy. I had all of those Stevenson-West
reunion books. Mother wrote a lovely piece once about
The Blacksmith. Her grandpa was a blacksmith. I MUST get
into those files I have and start reading again. I am a
"paper person", not a "keep it on the computer person."

Hello Jennifer, I have YET to find a connection to the
General. Lavinia Jane Howard and Mary Mourning Howard, to
all my knowledge, should be the granddaughters of Gen.
Putnam. I have not looked at this part of the family in a
long time,but I will dig it out and start again. Mother's first cousin was Nell Garner and she did indeed keep good
records;she even wrote in her books.(so do I). I have also
not been on this website in a long time.At one time I had
all of Nell's letters to mother, but they burned up in my house fire in 1996. Nell also did not have any proof of this
connection. It was a family "legend?" However, since you
asked, I shall certainly get out all of my West-Stevenson
things and start looking again. I appreciate your bringing
this to my attention once again;I would love to find the
proof. I will stay in touch with you and thank you so much

I am researching this west/howard line as well. I have also been told that Lavina (my 4th ggrandmother) was a direct decendant of Israel Putnam, though I have not found any proof of this yet. I am very interested in what all you might have for this line. I see that you mentioned that your mother's first cousin was the family historian and has a lot of information.
I live not too far from where Flat Rock Cemetery is supposed to be and have yet to find it.

I am a decendent (4th great granddaughter) of one of the daughters (Lavina) of Amelia Putnam Howard. I, too, have been told this story, but haven't found any proof as of yet.

I am posting a reply in hopes that someone might have some kind of information on Amelia's ancestors even if not of the Israel Putnam's line.

I have gotten a lot of my information from what Nell Garner has left behind. A few "books" are at the library in Fort Smith, AR, including a copy of a Stevenson Family bible. I just found today another book which has the Stevenson-West family reunion newsletters in it. I also have a cassette tape of Nell and my grandmother, Edice Steele Elwick, and her sister, Jennie Steele Hopkins (1st cousins to Nell) when they went back to the old farm place. I will be recording it onto something (cd or micro sd) once I figure out what the best way would be (and/or borrow a cassette player). It doesn't have very many "plays" left and I want to make sure when I do record it, I wont have to keep playing it again! When I get it completed, I will be glad to send you a copy.

Yeap - the General did die in Connecticut. And some of his descendants did go to Ohio. I too find no connection to the General. I do have a copy (somewhere of the reference "The West Family Register." The unknow Amelia Putnam married a Howard, and had a daughter Mary Mourning Howard who married James West. Mary died in Simpson County, Kentucky. Kentucky is next door to Ohio. Anyway, thought I would throw the following in for general knowledge from my data:-

It has been a family tradition that the mother of Mary was Amelia Putnam, a direct descendant of Gen. Israel Putnam. The names Putnam and Amelia have been retained as the generations have passed and appear in different branches of the family.

Mary H. West was a woman of redoubtable courage as proven by the following incident. Left alone one day with her negro servant, she was victim of a surprise attack by Indians. The negro woman was killed, But Mrs. West fought the Indians off until help came and she was rescued.

Can you give a little more detail in exactlly which Aaaron you are talking about? You probably have no idea how many Aaron's and Cornelius' there are.
