Family history research has led me to the Pybus family in Leeming who were blacksmiths. Trying to fit a Hannah Pybus into the picture who was born in Leeming in about 1805 and whose father is Thomas Pybus - farmer.

William Pybus, Chester-le-Street, c 1800

My ggg-grandfather Joseph Simons was married on 1st January 1792 to Hannah Vazie in Chester-le-Street by licence, by J Harman, according to a photocopy of the Bishop's Transcript. Witnesses Ann Vazie, Wm Vazie, Wm Pybus. A William Pybus was a saddler in Chester-le-Street 1798 British Universal Directory - too good a coincidence? Does any one know anything about this William Pybus? I am trying to put some flesh on the bones of the life of Joseph Simons and any connections might well help. I believe that Vazies, Simons and Pybus were involved in the local militia cavalry.

Thank you for your reply. I know they had a child Margaret in 1947. I don't know which branch of the military she served in but as a family they lived in Massachusetts. Do you know anything else about her?

This is probably way out of date but have you checked the 1881 census records. I have a John (Clifford) Pybus born 1836 married Catherine Brady born 1840 in Ireland with William 1867 in North Shields, John 1870 Ireland and James 1877Ireland. His occupation was Sailor, not quite a Sea Captain but ir could be the same one.

Searching for any information on Anne Pybus, who came to America in 1851 and married George Garbutt on September 16, 1851, supposedly before she disembarked from the ship. Legend has it that she was a flower girl in Queen Victoria's court. Where can I find information on this fact? Any information on this person would be more than greatly appreciated.

John Pybus is a my mother in laws great grandfather. His father was William Pybus abt 1774 to 1833.
I have a hand written note from his grandson R H Pybus that says William was in charge of signals at the battle of Trafalger (not sure what that means but it sounds important)
It also says he was previously captain of the "Midas".
I have loads more info re. John - Richard - Richard Hubert if this line is of interest.
I would be grateful of any help with Hannah Pickering.

The information posted on this thread should also be posted on the PYBUS Group Website. I have posted a family tree up there that I recently received from a cousin, it starts with Thomas Pybus 1622, and his wife Margaret. Frederick Pybus and Elizabeth Ann Hodgson are also on it. Through this tree Debbie Midenstein and I have discovered we are 4th cousins, twice removed.

I know i have some relative buried in our village cemetery with the name
someone pickering pybus

my mum (she is a pybus)said they were her cousin? and that the pickering part was a name passed on from the pickering side of that family .
I can visit the cemetery and look and see if there is a headstone and see what it says.
May not be conected at all.

There is a baptism record of a John 10 March 1822, I think this fits well. His parents George and Mary. His death 07 July 1891 aged 69 at Almshouse Well. He had many siblings which I can add if required.
A record of George baptism 29 July 1792 (death 22 April 1866 age 73) parents William and Mary. George is listed as a cordwainer, which I think is a shoemaker.

The PYBUS records I have are from North Yorkshire (Well and Snape) and are unlikely to have detail of your interest.
Having checked the 1881 census I see that George PYBUS was born in Beal which is 40-50 miles south.
