In Feb of this year 2008 we started a family tree of the "Quain's from Limerick Ireland" on Ancestry.com.

Many have migrated to the USA. There are cousins living in Ireland which are located in the family tree.

Lot's of family have been located, take a look and send any questions you have.
Patrick John Quain
Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Yes this is my family, I am Helen Quaid's daughter:
Michael F. Quaid was married to Charlotte Meyer and they had
children:
-Beda Quaid born about 1901 in New Jersey
-Michael Quaid Jr born about 1903 in New Jersey
-Evelyn Quaid born about 1907 in New Jersey
-Charlotte Quaid born about 1908 in New Jersey
-Ralph Quaid born about 1911 in New Jersey
-Helen Quaid born about 1917 in New Jersey
In the 1900 and 1910 censuses the family lived in Sayreville, Middlesex, New Jersey.

Do you have information about any of these people? They lived in Sayreville until Charlotte died, probably about 1960 (not at all sure about that) Evelyn lived there after that. I know some of their family history, and there is someone who has worked on it and knows much more than I do.

What is your connection to this family? Do you have any of the family history? As far as I know they do not have any information about the Irish side, and I am guessing you might be connected to the Meyer branch? Please respond to me through my regular email at zetella@Yahoo.com

There were 2 other children of Michael and Charlotte (Lottie) who died in early childhood. Katherine and Timothy.

The only Quaid that I know is Katherine Quaid. She came by herself at her uncle's (Michael Mulcahy) request to take care of him. After he died, she returned to Ireland. The only reason I'm interested in her is that it would give me help in locating the Mulcahy family in Ireland.

John

From my understanding, The Longs are Halfs. They would have been my GGrandmothers half brothers and Sister. I have heard about the Longs but I don't really know anything about them. I went to Familysearch.org and put in America Jane Quaids name and got a leniger line from Mouning & Silas witch were Emily Ann Moore Parent (My GGG Grandparents) and Emily Ann Moore was Married to Thomas W. Quaid and That's the Parents of America Jane Quaid. America Jane Quaid was married twice First to John Long and Them to Will Bennett. This site gives the Names of the Long Children and Bennett Child (a daughter) which was my G Grandmother. And She had 7 Children. One is still alive and I plan on talking to him this weekend. He was raised around the long children. My Grandmother Ella America talk alote of the long children.

I am not aware of Katherine having any relatives in America. She was asked to come by her uncle to care for him. She did. After he died his will left most of his estate to her, much to the family's chagrin. She quickly liquidated it and returned to Ireland.
I'm trying to locate the family's origins in Ireland.
John

Hi Maureen,

Yes, you have emailed me several times before about your family.

Unfortunately, the Quain & Quain names & various spelling of both are interchangeable in Ireland .

This is what took me so long to get anywhere on my family too. I was looking for Quaid's and they turned out to be Quain's.

I received some information (not complete though) about my family from a Quain cousin in Limerick.

But I can not see a Patrick Quaid married to an Bridget O'Shea/Shea nor a Patrick born about when you say you grandfather was born??

There are a few John 's shown on this information from Limerick:
JOhn Quane born 1847- Bruff
John Quaid born abt 1824,
John Quaid born in Croom 1859,
John Quain born 1842,
John Quain bn 1810,
John Quain born 1856,
John Quain born 1892
John P Quain born 1872

As you can see the first names are used over & over & over again throughout various families & branches of the Quain & Quaid lines. Also with the last names changing too it can make it almost impossible to find the right one.

You live so close to Ireland, perhaps you would have more luck by going to Limerick??

I can not say your family are related or not at this point?

Bye for now
Jan

`Hi Jan,first of all an apology for not replying soon.I have unfortunately not been to well since last november so ancestory searching has been very little since then.A friend told me today of your message.Unfortunately i know very little of my Grandfather Patrick Francis Quaid only what i have been told and im not sure that all of that is 100%.I only have the name John Quaid as this is on my Grd Fathers marriage certificate.I have no info on my Grt Gr Father other than he worked along with my Grd father on a Noblemans Estate??his proffesion was stated as a coachman and my Grd Father had put he was deceased,he married in 1903.I dont know if this is whole truth at that time.I have also been told his wifes name was Bridget O'Shea/Shey?.Im afraid i was not born till 1948 so never knew him and my siblings were very young when he died the eldest being 8 at that time.
I can only go on that it seemed they passed on the same family names at that time.We have the Irish names of=Nora,Kathleen,Rosemary,Maureen and Patrick. On my research i can find my Grd Father from 1901 on the English Census but nothing Of him in Ireland. He said he was from Limerick.I believe there must have been more siblings in his family but no one seems to have any names to put forward.According to the ages on his Marriage Certificate,Death Certificate he was born either 1875(Death Certificate)or 1878(Marriage Certificate.
Do you have any of this info in your Family Tree that rings a bell or Know the names of my Grt Grandmother????
Hoping at last you might be related i so very much want to find my missing family.
Looking forward to your reply. If You would prefer to mail at home it's maureen.quaid@ntlworld.com.
Thanks for reading this looking forward to hearing from you, even if you dont think we are connected.
Maureen (Mo for short)

Hi there,

I spoke to a Quaid cousin in Kilmallock last weekend, Catherine says she inherited the Quaid (Crean) house.

She said she has also been told that there was a Quaid connection to the Kennedy/Fitzgerald family. My GG grandmother was Kate (Fitzgerald) Quaid born 1841 & her husband was William Quaid born 1829-30.

Therefore , I am assuming that the story my grandmother told me is true and confirmed by Catherine..Amazing isnt it!

She has a print out of family information so she is going to send me a copy. Then maybe it will show the connections(I hope)

I remember my grandmother also said that there was some family Fitzgerald member who died and they were trying to settle the estate in ireland a long, long time ago...

But could not locate all the family members to give them their share..So the balance of the estate went to the Fitzgerald side of Kennedy family..I am not sure who's estate this was but it would be interesting to find out?

This was a long time ago , so I do not know how it all fits together yet anyway?

Bye for now
Janice
I am looking for any information regarding my grandfather, born in Ireland on December 14th, 1865. We know he had a sister Annie who married Joseph Rigdon in St. Charles MO.

The old family legend is that Thomas sang a song against the Queen in the town square and had to leave the country immediately. There are no ships' records for him as he was a stowaway.

He had thirteen children with Mary O'Dea and their names were (in case any of them sound like family names): Mary, Rose Marie, Charles Joseph, Andrew James, Brendan Thomas, Catherine Theresa, Arthur Emett Aloysius, James Michael, Robert Emett, Esther O'Dea, Donal Kevin (my dad) and Anna Mae and we don't know the thirteenth.

If anyone has any information - it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Linda

My father was Bobby Ray Quaid, his father was Oliver Quaid. Oliver died about the time I was born. My father was raised by my grandmother's family, he only met his father a couple of times. Oliver married my grandmother second, Cliffie Foster of Castor, Louisiana. I believe my grandmother's father ran him off. Oliver married Daddy's half brother Wesley's mother first, he lives in Hawaii, don't know her name. Then he married my grandmother and then Audie last. I believe she is deceased now - she lived somewhere in North Louisiana. Before my father died we met his half brothers and sisters. I can give you some of their names: twins Paul and Pam, Theresa, Kenny, Ulese, Buford (truckdriver),
Paul's wife is Sheryl and he use to deliver medical equipment and Sheryl was a court reporter. They have Paul and Brandon.
Theresa has Sabra and Bobby Ray (named after my father)
There is Marie who lives in Tullalah La.
I think I met Ulese, he came to my Daddy's funeral in Minden 11/27/1997.
My mother has a scanner and we have a picture of some of them. Also, there is a family Quaid Website thru MyFamily.com.
You might have already gotten your information but if not I hope this helps.

Kelly

Dear Rita, It sure does!! My dear Grandmother Susan Quaid Watkins Schaberg was born in Lake Five Wis. in 1880 as was her brother Michael. My Greatgrandparents John C. & Margaret are buried in St. Bridget's cemetery in St. Croix County Wis. Great Grandpa John was in the 6th Mich Cavalry from Kent County Michigan during the Civil war. He was born in Orange County N.Y. in 1845. Susan's brothers David & William were born in Stanton, Polk County Wisconsin in 1882 and 1884 approximately. I recently found William in the 1930 census in Madison County Montana. The story goes that Sue's brothers went out west (Montana) to work in the mines and left the family farm about 1900 and she never heard from them again. But I have a picture postcard dated 1905 from Michael and his wife Katie from Helena and My Aunt Margaret who recently passed away at the age of 95 remembers Uncle Dave and his wife Rosella and their children Jack & Jean. I also have a lot of old old photos of Cousins taken in Milwaulkee and Menomonee Falls and Hartford. I know one cousin was named Tillie Noller. Some are wedding photos. I sure would like to put some names with these pictures. I could probably go on and on but am dying to hear from you again.

Looking for information on a Katherine Quaid. She can be found on the 1930 US Census living in the home of Michael Mulcahy in Rutherford, Bergen Co., New Jersey. She is shown as his niece, 28 years old from Ireland. Census shows she immigrated in 1925.
Our family knows that Michael J. Mulcahy brought a niece from Ireland to take care of him in his retirement. After he died in 1935, she inherited most of his estate and returned to Ireland.
Any comments would be appreciated.
John Goodman

I'm searching for any information on the family of my 2xgreat Grandmother<Mary Quaid. She had one sister that I know of, Ellen, brothers Thomas, Michael and Kyran - al of whom came to New Zealand and came from Kilkenny - maybe Rathpatrick. I beleive their parents were Kyran and either Mary or Ellen Dougheney - or spelt differently at times. Have a lot of N.Z. info to share.
Brenda
