Herman T. QUAST m. 1866, Peoria, IL, Elizabeth KNOBLAUCH

I'm trying to identify the ancestry of Herman T. QUAST who m. 1866, Peoria, IL, Elizabeth KNOBLAUCH [Illinois State Archives Database].

Census of 1870, Peoria, QUEAST: Harmon, 41; Elizabeth, 22; & Annie, 1.

Marshall Co., IL, 1870, KUNKLE, Andrew, 29; Christina, 25; Prosper, 2; Rosie, 7 mos.

Woodford Co., IL, 1880, KUNKEL, Andrew, 39; Elizabeth, 32; Bross {Prosper}, 12; Rosina, 10; Adam H., 1
Also in household, QUASET, Anna E., 11, & Otilie, 7. [Quaset must be Quast.]

History of Woodford Co., IL, has Anna QUAST witnessing the marriage of Rosa KINKEL, 1887, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Ch. Death report for Rosa's son Joseph HEITZ, Jr., shows her name was Rose KUNKLE. Thus, Anna was witnessing her stepsister's marriage.

Does anyone know the ancestry of either Herman T. QUAST or Elizabeth KNOBLAUCH?

Go to FamilySearch.org and check the 1880 US Census, Otter Creek, Eau Claire, WI, QUAST:
Ludwig, 37, & Amelia, 27, both b. Prussia
Sons b. WI: Albert, 12; Rodolph, 8; Julius, 5; Gustave, 2.

FamilySearch pilot has the 1900 census, Clear Creek, Eau Claire, WI, QUAST:
Ludwig, b. Dec. 1842, Germany, imm. 1857
Wf. Emilie, b. Aug. 1852, imm. 1862, had 8 ch., 6 living
Ch. b. WI: Julius, July 1874; Gustav, Dec. 1877; Emma, Oct. 1880; Mary, b. Je. 1883.

Emil J. ZETZMANN was 61 & Ema {sic}, 39, in 1920.

I think she was probably listed as Emma ZITZMAN in 1930, Eau Claire Co. You can get the names but not the actual censuses by Googling "1930 census."

Herman QUAST m. 1866, IL, Elizabeth KNOBLAUCH

I found them in Peoria, Peoria, IL, 1870, but on two indexes, Herman was Harmon, 41 / 47, QUEAST / QUCAST. Wife Elizabeth was 22, and they were both b. Prussia. Daughter Annie, 1, IL. Since there was a Herman, 30 in 1860, he was probably listed as 41. This helps my theory that the second wife of Andrew KUNKLE was Elizabeth [KNOBLAUCH] QUAST, because Annie was the right age in 1870 & 1880.

Herman QUAST m. 1866, IL, Elizabeth KNOBLAUCH

The Illinois Marriage Database has in Peoria Co., IL, Herman T. QUAST, 16 Nov. 1866, Elizabeth KNOBLAUCH. That's the only QUAST marriage for that county listed.

There was a Herman, 30, Peoria P. O., Peoria Co., IL, 1860.

I'm looking for parents of Anna E. QUASET, 11, & Otilie QUASET, 7, on the 1880 census, Woodford Co., IL, in this household
KUNKEL, Andrew, 39; Elisabetha, 32; Bross, 12; Rosina, 10; & Adam H., 1.

I cannot find QUASET, so I think the surname must have been QUAST. Otilda, no surname, was listed as stepdaughter of Andrew KUNKLE {spelled differently} in Platte Co., NE, 1900.

Thus, I'm looking for a QUAST who died ca. 1873 (year Otilda was born), leaving widow Elizabeth/Elisabetha & daus. Anna & Otilda. Elizabeth had borne six children, only four living, per the 1900 Census, so there might be infants who died in Illinois, too.

Any clues?

Russia, in household of Jacob YOCAM, 33, & Mena YOCAM, 27.

FamilySearch.org pilot site has a copy of the 1900 Census, which shows Christian, Wilhelmine, and parents all b. Russia. Google BLM +"land patents" for land records. You can find the names of some wives by Googling "SD Births" (those over 100 years ago). Social Security Death Index, online, also has some who lived long enough to be included.

--not my family

I'm looking for the father of two girls listed on the 1880 census in Woodford Co., IL, as Anna E., 11, & Otilie QUASET. They were in the household of Andrew & Elisabetha KUNKEL. Andrew was of Woodford Co. in 1860, but of Marshall Co., IL, in 1870 with a different wife, but the names of the two KUNKEL children match in 1870 & 1880 (except that Prosper was Bross). Thus, I'm looking for a man who died 1873+ leaving widow Elisabetha & daus. Anna & Otilie/Otilda. Otilda was listed as stepdaughter of Andrew KUNKLE (different spelling) in 1900, Platte Co., NE.

I cannot find anything for the surname QUASET, so I think the name was probably QUAST.

You can find a great deal of information on the family of Heinrich/Henry QUAST of Lavaca County on Family Search.org. The census database of 1880 shows Henry and family, and the pilot site shows, for 1900, a copy of actual census and also has death certificates for quite a few of the family. In 1900, Augusta [BITNER] QUAST had been married 38 years and had borne sixteen children, ten living.

You can put them together by going to FindaGrave, Oak Grove Cem., Lavaca County. Click on the person's name to see the stone and relationships.

This isn't my family, but I'm trying to help a friend whose grandparents are listed as William LAMBRECHT & Anna KUNKLE, but the 1880 census, Woodford Co., IL, has Anna QUASET. I have found nobody except her sister Otilda / Otilie QUASET with that name, so I wonder whether it might have been QUAST. Do you know of any male QUAST, b. Germany, who died in Marshall or Woodford Co., IL, between 1873 & 1878, leaving widow Elisabetha / Elizabeth and daughters Anna & Otilda QUAS[E]T?

I am seeking information on Jacob Quast (or Kuest, Kuesta, Quest), who was born in Prussia and married a Catherine Miller. They settled around Platteville in Grant County, WI and had three children: Peter b. 1837, Susan b. 1839, and Frank b. 1846. I'd like to find out about either Jacob or Catherine's parents or siblings, and their burial place; I am also missing information on their son Frank, who his wife Amelia's family was, and what happened to their daughter Elsie.

I love sharing information too, so don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, either.

Emma Quast - Wisconsin

hello all - my grandmother is from Wisconsin, Eau Claire area. She was born in 1915 To Emil Zetzmann and Emma Quast. Emma was his second wife. Emil passed away in 1929 and Emma remarried. I am trying to get our geneology done and bless my grandma's heart but at 95 she really is having trouble remembering all facts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. She cannot recall who it was Emma Quast married after her father died. She does recall he was a minister or priest type. Also trying to find out how Emma died as my grandmother says it was a car wreck and she didn't get to know her parents very well. My Grandmothers name is Geraldine Ruth Marie Zetzmann Kurtz. She married Elmer Kurtz of Eau Claire area also.

Hi Darlene,
I grew up about 15 miles from Mt Pleasant. I lived in Alma and graduated from Alma High School. My parents went to Central Michigan. My mother was a school teacher. She is 92 years old and lives in Ithaca. My father didn't finish college as the war intervened and he started a family and just never went back. My father passed in 1986. My nephew was going to Central until last year. He will be attending Michigan State spring or fall term of this year. I had found two first cousins of my mother's who were still living but I was unable to visit them before they passed away. They were my great-grandmother Sophia's grandchildren. One iived in Utah and she passed just a year ago in October. The other lived in California and he passed about 3 years ago. I had been to California and Utah in the past few years but had not gotten into the genealogy thing yet. Anyway my mother and her younger sister by 5 years Esther are the only two grandchildren living from that generation. I would like to see what you have and compare notes. I should be home for my niece's graduation from high school the end of May and maybe whe can get together. Thanks for answering my posting.

Susan

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

His parents were Johannes(1855, Alt Elft) and Barbara Schaal.

I don't recognize your names. Were they from the Alt Elft area? I'll keep searching to see if I can match up with any of your names. All very interesting.

Laura

Carl Quast & Caroline Lenz Quast - Milwaukee c. 1886

Quast Researchers:

I'm trying to establish a relationship between two Quast families that show up in each other's family records in the parish books of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. I am a descendant of John F. Quast and Augusta Manthey Quast who were in Milwaukee by 1881. I am hoping to eventually link John and Carl as brothers or cousins. My information on the John Quast family, his parents, birth location, etc. is posted on Rootsweb.com

Carl and Caroline Quast immigrated in 1886 with their first two children and were in Milwaukee by 1887. Anyone reserching this family should be sure to check out the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church films in Milwaukee research collections, or ordered through an FHL location.

My basic construction of this family is below. I'm happy to correspond further regarding these two Quast families.

1. Carl QUAST (b.Abt 1850-Preußen d.1920/1930-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
sp: Carolina LENZ (b.Abt 1858-Germany m.Abt 1878 d.1920/1930-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
|-2. Albertine W. QUAST (b.Abt 1879-Preußen)
|-2. Emil H. QUAST (b.Jun 1880-Preußen)
|-2. Melita Henriette QUAST (b.1 Apr 1887-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
|-2. Carl August QUAST (b.3 Aug 1889-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin d.15 Jul 1967-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
| sp: Olga (b.Abt 1881-Wisconsin)
|-2. Carl Friedrich Johann QUAST (b.4 Mar 1892-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
| sp: Bertha (b.Abt 1892-Russia d.1920/1930-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
|-2. Clara F. QUAST (b.Oct 1894-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
+-2. Irma E. QUAST (b.May 1897-Milwaukee Co.,Wisconsin)
sp: Herbert KLEIN (b.Abt 1896-Wisconsin)

I have a Quast Family from Hanna Alberta that I have been trying to find out information on. My husband's birthfather was William Quast who moved from Alberta, came to Vancouver and worked in the Forest Industry. William Quast died in 1886 in Vanouver B.C. We do know of one younger sister that still is alive. Diana Sibley ( nee Quast) but she was the youngest of the family, and does not really remember anything much. William and Diana had other family members, and their father was Christian Quast who was one of the group of Germans from Russia.

I am helping a friend with their family history. I know for sure that Grandpa is George R. Quast born 1925 (wife Irene), his son, George H. Quast Jr. born 1952 (wife Donna Weigum 1951), and his son's are Jason L. Quast (DOB n/a) and Bradley A. Quast born 1979.

I believe George R. Quast was born in Oregon because his SSN was created in Oregon...I know that doesn't mean he was born there, but I'm having a real hard time finding any information on this family.

Hi, I'm new here, so I just found your post. My grandfather was Leopold Quast born in Fundu-Sarazika. His parents were Wilhelm and Katharina Schrumm or Schramm. You might find some helpful info on www.odessa3.org. Some files have been lost or have not yet been worked on, so it will take some time to go through them. Try the village of Alt Elft for the Quasts you might be looking for. Let me know if you find any connection or if I can help direct you to the right area. Silvia

Hi Laura,
I found 2 Otto Quast in my Family Tree, although I'm still not finding the connection to my grandfather Leopold, who was born in Fundu-Sarazika and married Karolina Kronwald. The Otto I found on one of the family trees was born January 09, 1906 and married Katharina Schmidt. He was the son of Bernhard Quast and Maria Forchert. The other is Otto was born February 24, 1908, he was the son of Johannes Quast
born November 27, 1881. I'm not sure it the data is accurite, but maybe you have that already.
The connection partly between the two surnames that I babbled on about was the name Matthies. Kuhlman. Drewes. I may have Matthies spelled slightly wrong.
I think this tree runs into the Kanning , and Janssen tree in the Martin county area.

Hi,

If Meta Denker was your great aunt, I wonder if we are from the same family. My great-great grandmother's name was Margrethe Denker, and she had a sister named Meta. They lived in North Dakota at one time. Margrethe had 3 daughters, named Meta (my great-grandma), Margreta, and Cara. Their last name was Wertman, although later on Margreta and Cara were adopted by their maternal grandparents and then went by the surname of Denker. Could you tell me if your Meta's father's name was John Denker? I can be reached directly at:

drkalehzan@gmail.com

Thanks for your reply,

Michelle
