Arizona Queen is my great-great grandmother, and I would love any info on the Queen family. I am especially interested in any info you might have regarding Reuben's father. Also, do you have any documentation on the earliest date Reuben was in Texas other than 1850.

I live in Temple, Tx., not far from Georgetown.
Sandy

Herman Queen of Stow

Is anyone familiar with Herman Queen of Stow, Massachusetts? I believe he was a brother of Army Air Force Sergeant Harry B. Queen, a World War II MIA who was lost on January 25, 1944 on the same aircraft as my uncle, 1st Lt. Irwin G. Zaetz. Herman Queen was born on March 10, 1921 and died in Worcester on February 11, 1985. His wife Esther L. (Gault) Queen, died January 22, 2006. He is reported to have two sons, Douglas K. Queen of Sterling, New Hampshire and David S. Queen of West Unity, New Hampshire, a brother, Gerald Gault of Hudson, NH, and a daughter, Brenda C. Page of St. Petersburg, FL.
Within the past year, the wreckage of this aircraft was discovered in a remote part of northeastern India. My family is trying to notify surviving relatives of the missing crewmen of this news. Any information on Herman Queen or how I can contact any surviving descendants of his would be greatly appreciated. An obituary for him would be particularly helpful.
It would appear that your Queen and Proctor families trace back to a mixed blood Community in Charles County, Maryland known as the "Wesorts" For more information on this group look the name up in a search engine such as Google, then check the description given in Wikipedia. By one recent estimate the Wesorts are said to number 6,000 or more now.

I have some reason to suspect that my own John & Chloe (Kerrick) Queen trace back to Charles County. Some of their descendants claim Indian descent through the Queens (or possibly intermarried with the Queens).

Some of my closer Queen relatives look Jewish, and have been assumed to be Jewish even by Jews. My father's mother was a Queen. A Jewish woman saw my father's picture and asked "Who is that man? - He has to be Jewish!" Later, I asked a student from Italy as to what race he would consider me if I were in Italy. He promptly replied "Jewish".

Hi Dorothy,

My family is from Southern Maryland. My grandfather was John Queen Johnson. He died before I was born, but my understanding is that he was a mulattoe of sorts and supposedly told my mother his ancestry was portuguese-jew. I know our family is somehow connected to the Proctors of Maryland. My grandfather also told my mother, his ancestors were named Swan. Supposedly he was born John Queen but due to an adoption, Johnson was tagged on. I'm having a hard time tracing the Queen name here. Hope this helps, and if you have heard anything about Queens in southern maryland, please post.

My Great-great grandfather was Elijah B. Queen, married to Nancy Dishman. He was born in 1836 in Tennessee and they were married in 1857. She died in 1902 and he passed at the veteran's home in Leavenworth Ks on Feb 15, 1907. Believe he is buried there at the Ft. Leavenworth Cemetery. I have been trying to find out who his parents were, records show from one of the census records that his father was born in N.C. I wonder if the John you are looking for is Elijah's father.

I found errors on the World Tree for Jane Queen. Please note in a past post, I quoted exactly from the Wills of Charles County-- the guardianship of Richard and Jane by William Montgomery. The ages of both are written in the document. There is no reference to their parents. Furthermore, when reading the World Tree, it states that Marsham Queen is the father of Jane. However, when one clicks on Marsham's name Jane is not listed as one of the children. The name Richard is listed there but the date of birth is way off. Also, Jane did not die in Maryland. I have a copy of her marriage record showing her married in Washington County, KY.
African American Queen Family Maryland

Hello,
I am researching the Queen family in Maryland and found that my great-great-great grandfather was Zachariah Queen, he married a woman name Addie and according to his death certificate his mother's name was Cordelia or Cornelia. I believe his family may have migrated from Anne Arundel County, although he is listed as free in Baltimore in the 1840. I also know that he had other relatives Edward Queen, Delia Queen, James Queen, Robert Queen, Stephen Queen. The family were primarily oyster shuckers and resided in fells point. If anyone has any information on this family please contact me at meetingsinc@hotmail.com.

Hello;
Please contact me offline as I can supply you with between a 24 to 28 page report on this family. Some of their descendants have married into both sides of my family over the years including some of John Columbus Johnson's offspring.
It can give you a good start on an research you may be doing provided you are still researching the family.I can assure you it is a work in progress with plenty of source notes.

Harvey L Pearson
Queen-Anne Arundel Branch

Hello. I just stumbled across your line tonight and I don't know for sure but we (you and the other person), may be on the same Queen line,Possibly!!My father's name was James Mack Queen born in Md(1869-1967)and was first married to a Rosa Bell. His father was named Stephen Queen b.1873 and was married to Annie Parker, b about 1876. His parents were Stephen Queen b.1848 and his wife was Hannah ? b.abt. 1840 both in Md.I haven't been able to track Hannah's last name but seen in one census, if date was right, that it may have been Brown and she had a brother named Brice Brown. Yet to be confirmed. I also have mucho cousins that live in Annapolis, Md and was told a few cousins still live in Queens Town, that I hope to meet this summer if they are still there. Lot are gone. I am still in the research of the Queen family just in the Annapolis Area. I had just met my sister Dorothy Queen Robinson 12 yrs ago. She passed over a year ago in Annapolis. I don't know if we run the same Queen line but it would be interesting to trade info with you.
Please email me-queenmarviej@verizon.net

This is from page 17 of "John Queen Of Loudoun County, Virginia (Ca. 1720-1802/05) and Descendants" by Paul E. Dyer:

"On 7 September 1761, an indenture was made in Loudoun County, Virginia, for 250 acres on the Drains of the N. E. Fork of Goose Creek, from Joseph West to John and Mary Queen. On 13 October 1766, in the same county, another entry was made by John and Mary Queen to David Willison for 125 acres."

This places David Willison in Loudoun County, VA in 1766.

My great-grandfather was James Queen, born Ireland in 1868. His family moved to Glasgow when he was about 3. His parents were John Queen (born ca 1841, Ireland)and Margaret Gilmour (born ca 1847, Ireland) and for some reason James changed his name to Gilmour around 1901 (he witnessed his brother's Feb 1900 marriage as a Queen but was a Gilmour when he served in the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles in the Boer war from March 1901!).

His siblings were:
Mary Ann ca 1870 Glasgow
John ca 1872 Glasgow
Patrick ca 1875 Glasgow
Catherine ca 1878 Glasgow
Margaret ca 1881 Glasgow
Francie ca 1887 Glasgow.

Any help gratefully received.

Calum

You say:
- 1--William JARRELL b:circa 1849; living 1850
but he is not on the 1850 census. He is on the 1860 census, age 1. The other William you have appears
correct. b:circa 1859.

You say:
- 1--Isaac JARRELL b:circa 1844; living 1850.
but he is not on the 1850 census; he is on the 1860 census, age 6. So, b: circa 1854.

You say:
- 1--Mary JARRELL b:circa 1849; living 1860
She is age 1 on the 1850 census, and age 9 on the 1860 census, but you have two other Marys in this family.

You say:
- 1--Christeny JARRELL b:circa 1853; living 1880.
She is not on the 1860 census, but is on the 1870 census, age 8. so, b: circa 1862.
Dear Richard
I see that your message was posted some years ago, but wondered if you are able to help me with my Queen ancestors.

In particular I am looking for the family of James Queen, b 1834 (in Glasgow?)who enlisted in the Royal Artillery on 12 Feb 1853 in Glasgow. He gave his occupation at that time as Labourer. His marriage certificate (in Woolwich)gives his father's name as Henry.

Not much to go on, I'm afraid, although a W Queen was a witness at his marriage, and he named two of his children Mary and Catherine. Mary is a name that may come from the family of his wife Elinor Martha Letitia Bowen, but I know of no Catherines in the Bowen family, so wonder if it came from one of the Queens.

I would be most grateful for any help that you can offer.

Sincerely

Rosemary
