Jules Quesnelle was my grandfather's godfather. it is recorded on my grandfather's baptism certificate.
My grandfather was named Jules McKay. I think the name Jules came from his godfather because that name does not appear anywhere else in the family history.
My grandfather was baptised at St. Victor's Church in Gleichen, Alberta on the 9th of february, 1896 by a Rev. L. Doucet. The godparents are listed as Jules Quesnel and Catherine Cloustre. My grandfather Jules was born at Maple creek, Sask. which is just a short distance from Gleichen.

Thanks anyway - my Grandmother told the story once of a distant relative named Trudeau who had twins while out working in a field, and took care of the babies and went right back to work. Good story, but don't know who she was, where or when.

Hello! My name is actually Shad. Jules Quesnelle was someone I was researching to see if he fit into my family tree. I do have a good deal of information on many Quesnelle/Quesnel/Canell families from Canada to the Midwest (Michigan and Minnesota)- also some ancestors who made their way out to San Diego, Everett (Washington) and Omadi, Nebraska. Any of this seem like it might be a match for your family? Let me know whom you are researching and I'd be happy to look into it for you and see if I can help. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere with my family tree had it not been for the help of people on this board. Hope to hear from you soon!

Best regards,

Shad

ANYONE LOOKING FOR INDIAN QUESNELLE ROOTS???

I know a lot of us have legends in our Quesnelle families of Indian roots. My grandmother said she was 1/4th Algonquin (I don't know which exact tribe). But so far, I've only been able to find far distant Indian connections to the Quesnelle family from the 1700's. Well, I just found on the 1880 U.S. Census two Indian Quesnelles, Jos. (male, b.1865) and Julie (female, b.1869). They were found in Deer Lodge, Montana. They were both born in Montana with parents born in Canada. Anyone looking for Indian roots in the Quesnelle family should do what I'm about to do and look into these people. I'll share what I find at this message board!

Janet Olsen
jolsen4830@msn.com

Hi Joanne! Is your grandfather, Michel Quesnelle, the son of Leon Quesnelle? My grandmother, Olive Canell (daughter of Gideon Quesnelle) was born in Bay City, MI in 1892. I've been asking all my cousins what they remember about her and I've gotten two answers that have me interested in your family. First, she was always talking about the Trudeau family. She mentioned twins. Second, she was said to be 1/4th Native American. Does any of this seem like a link to your family?

Janet Olsen
jolsen4830@msn.com

Jules Quesnelle, b.1850's, Canada

I am looking for more info on the family of Leon Quesnelle and his Indian Wife from Ft. Walsh, Canada. They had a son named Jules who married Rachel McKay and another son named Michelle. Does anyone know if Leon had more children besides these two? Also, does anyone know what tribe Leon's Indian Wife belonged to? I know that near Medicine Hat at that time there were Nakota Sioux and Nez Perce. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Janet Olsen
jolsen4830@msn.com
