I am related through Elizabeth Miller's son Alma. We have traced Andrew's lineage back 2 more generations. His Father Andrew married to Helen Sheares and grandfather John Quigley, his birth abt. 1780 in tyrone; married to Ellen Sellers. The file goes cold at that point. I am still researching here and there. There are so many John Quigleys. This info is on the new.familysearch.org. I would be interested in further discoveries.

Bridget Quigley, Iron County, Missouri Death

Iron County Register Newspaper, Ironton, Missouri, July 22, 1880, Page 5.
KILLED BY LIGHTENING--During the storm of Monday evening, a flash of lightening entered the Catholic Church at Iron Mountain, instantly killing Miss BRIDGET QUIGLEY, an accomplished and highly esteemed young lady. We have not been able to get any further particulars of the deplorable event. Miss Quigley graduated from one of the best schools in St. Louis about two years ago, with great honor, and since that time has been teaching the parochial school at Iron Mountain. Her death is a most sorrowful occurrence, and shocks not only the citizens of that town, but of this Valley as well; for she had many admiring friends among our people.
-------------------
The John Albert Undertaking Business also has the below notation about another Iron County Quigley.
Sep 19, 1882	Wm. QUIGLEY for son, John, age 18 months, summer complaint, buried Iron Mtn.
-------------------
Taken from Will Book 1:
CLEARY, Patrick - Will dated 20 Jan 1875 Brother, Michael Cleary now living at Iron Mountain, real estate in town of Pilot Knob (description) If he should die before my death, to my three sisters, to wit, Catharine the widow of John Tierney of Pilot Knob, Mary the wife of Cornelius O'Neal of Iron Co., and Ellen the wife of THOMAS QUIGLEY of Iron Mt Exr, Michael Cleary Wit: Bernard Zuart and Isaiah Jones Recorded 5 Oct 1875.
My mother's grandfather's name was Bruce Quigley from Paducah, Ky. Bruce Quigley's son, Beaufort Marion Quigley had a tailoring business in Dallas.
Bruce Quigley visited my mother's home briefly in the late 1920's when my mother was a little girl. He showed her
where the Indian's arrows had passed in and out of his body during theIndian Wars.
Beaufort Quigley was from Paducah, Ky and his mother was a Sebree. My mother visited her Grandmother (Sebree) Garth
on a farm in Fort Worth TX. Beaufort named his three sons
Quint, Beaufort, and Sheld

Hi Annette,

I have the parents of Samuel Quigley, but not the parents of Jane. I do know she came from Gorticashel. I am debating right now that she might be the sister of my ggrandfather James McNickle.
My James first child was named Jane and I thought there might be a connection. I know he came from County Tyrone, but the Irish use of Christian names really makes it hard to find who you are looking for.
Also, because very few of those brought over to Tyrone by the English after the Nine Years War with the Scots, owned land. Because they all leased, there was a great deal of intermarriage. There are no McNickle males left over there, but many females of McNickle/M'Nicholl lineage.
I would like to compare some information with you about the McNickle line if you would like. As to Daniel McNickle, he lived in the village of Gortin or in Upper Badoney Parish, which is 3 miles from Gortin.

Jerry McNichol

My grandfather changed the spelling from McNickle.
Re: Quigley, Daniel

I have information on Daniel Quigley born Ireland in 1836. brought to USA,Apr 1850 by his mother Anne and father Hugh and accompanied by his sister Margret, and three three brothers Thomas,John, and Hugh. This family port of entry was Philadelphia as listed in immigration records of which I have copies. This family is still intact living in Philadelphia in the 1860 federal census. The Daniel Quigley in my family tree next appears with his enlistment in Company B,12th SM Calvary Regiment in 1862. this Daniel Quigley next is documented with his marriage to Eliza Jane Eddings in Bond county Illinois, 22 October 1863. Family lore is that he suffered a head wound inflicted by a Sioux arrow while serving in Minnesota. Daniel and Elia Jane apparently wasted no time as my grandfather John Thomas was born 30 Sept 1864 in Bound County, Illinois. I have Daniel and Eliza Jane documented in the 1880 federal census with ,of course, their children. I am currently working on documentation on their location in 1870. Please understand I am very much a neophyte at this genealogy gig and would be happy to speak with you on the telephone or by email if you wish. My email address is remyquig@sc.rr.com my telephone number is 843-235-0568.
If your 1870 census for John and Harriet Quigley place them in Jeddo, Luzerne County, living with the John Amon family, then it is not the correct Quigley family. That John and Harriet Amon Quigley are my great grandparents, and they remained in Freeland, Luzerne County until 1901 when they moved to Pittsburgh.
Sorry! But good luck with your research!
Joan
Thank you for the reply to my message (posted under TimeTraveler303). Yes, I had found the 1860 census for James and Jerusha (ALLEN) QUIGLEY in Hamilton County, Ohio.

I have been looking for more information about the QUIGLEY children in hopes of finding additional clues that might link Jerusha ALLEN to the wife (Elizabeth ALLEN 1810-1892?) of the next neighbor ("Squire" GRUBBS) on the 1840 census in Dearborn County, Indiana. There are two other ALLENs of interest who moved also to Tama and Benton counties in Iowa.

It would be good to share information.

Wilma in Colorado
It's a fascinating story, but I'm afraid I can't add anything to it. My earliest Quigley ancestor settled in the D. C. area. His name was William, and he was born in Ireland about 1834-1836. He shows up in the 1870 D.C. Census with a wife born in Virginia and a son born in D.C. in 1858. I don't know when he came to the states, who his parents were, or whether or not he had any siblings. He is my brick wall, so I was hoping he would fit in with your story. He was obviously born after the brothers you are looking for, so I guess we don't have a match. Good luck on your continuing pursuit of information.

So far I have everything apart from Dennis Quigleys' death cert, which I cannot find.

Since he was living in Scotland upto the 1871 Census, which is the last recorded account of him, since then he disappears. In the 1881 Census he isn't to be seen nor does a Death Cert for the years 1871 - 1881.

Scotlandspeople does not show anything either, would I have to goto the registrars office and look for a cert myself in case it hasnt been transcribed yet or think he may of died else where.

Carol, it was good to hear from you. I had given up hope to receive a reply from that old posting.

Our Quigley roots are also, supposedly, from county Donegal in Northern Ireland. There is a town in Donegal named Quigley although I don't know the connection.

My GGrandparents were John and Elizabeth Ann Quigley who came from Ireland with the other almost 3 Million folks fleeing the potato famine. (I am told that between 1850 and 1900 there were more Irish in the US than there were in Ireland)

My G Aunt Mary Quigley married (reportedly) into a dairy family with a name similar to Kane. I have asked my sister who lives in Abesecon to verify that info for me. Aunt Mary's sister was Anna Elizabeth Quigley (my maternal grandmother). She was born April 3, 1887. Two of her siblings (Sarah and Daniel Quigley) died around the turn of the century and were buried at NCC. John and Elizabeth had a bunch of children buit most died very young.

My direct Email address is oceans351@bellsouth.net. I will contact you after I verify the Kane connection or have other information to share. Let me know if any of this fits.

Paul Simkins

Paul,
I know this is very late in responding to your 2003 Quigley post, but I did not start my searching until 2006. I know I have Catherine Quigley(my GG-Grandmother)who was married to James Kane buried at New Cathedral Cemetery in Phila. I also know that her one brother Michael Quigley is also buried at this cemetery. Catherine & Michael came to the US from Ireland (possibley County Donegal) with their father John, mother Mary(maiden name unknown), brother James, and sisters Rose Ann & Margaret(whom was called Mary and married a Michael Smith). They arrived in May of 1852 on the ship "Anne" out of Londonderry,Ireland. I actually live 45 minutes from Philly & will be making a trek to the cemetery sometime before the end of May. If you would like I can check the names of the relatives you believe are buried at New Catherdral Cemetery. The cemetery is located at N.2nd Street & W.Butler Streets in Philly. Oddly enough the Philadelphia Childrens Hospital is diagonally across the street. Best Regards, Carol Kane Haring

Ann married a Telford and raised their children in Scotland. At least one of their children immigrated to NZ via Australia.

Re: Quigley Tale passed down through the generations.

I have not heard a time frame of when the brothers left. And my Uncle didn't ask where the southern Quigley's originated from. I do know that my line of ancestors stops in Baltimore, MD where I have a marriage certificate that says that my G-G-G Grandfather John R. Quigley (born about 1805 in County Derry, Ireland - Died March 18, 1899 in Shullsburg, WI) married a Susannah McKnulty (born about1816 in County Tyrone, Ireland - Died about 1877)in Baltimore on 13 Feb 1832 and a Application for Citizenship for John on October 13th, 1833. I am not sure if he came over with his father and his father was one of the brothers that I am refering to in this tale or whether it was John himself. Some of these documents were passed down through my grandmother but they were not documented very well as were they were found, however I do have copies of the original documents and photo's of both John and Anna). This story has always facinated me and I've always wondered if there was any trueth to it, but I've hit a brick wall and not sure where else to look. I can't find any document telling me who John's father was either. (I would assume John as well, since the name John Raphael was passed down to his son, and grandson, and great grandsons)Any ideas would be welcomed greatly.

Quigley Tale passed down through the generations.

I am looking for anyone who may have heard this tale that may have passed down through their Quigley lines. In Ireland two Quigley brothers had a disagreement with the tax collector and accidently killed him and in fear they jumped ship to America. When they arrived they feared they would be deported back to Ireland for punishment so they decided to split up. One was to go north and the other south. My line is from the northern Quigley's who made their way to Loudoun County, VA from Baltimore, Maryland then on to Shullsburg, Wisconsin.
About 15 years ago my uncle was at work and another man came into his workplace and ironically they had the same exact name. But was even more interesting than that is this Quigley had the same tale except he came from the southern line of Quigley's.
I am curious if there is any truth to this tale. If anyone has heard anything simular to this in there line please contact me at Jnbroan@aol.com. I would welcome any response from anyone who could shed some light on this subject or give me a direction on which to search for any truth to this tale.

Debbie, you make some interesting points. Certain names were used over and over and it's the same now but different names are more popular.

It's interesting to me that lots of Quigley's came from Ireland as I had thought the name was German from the name Quickel. The famous Quiggle/Quigley families of Clinton County are apparently from Germany but on the other hand, my Michael b 1777 is supposedly part Irish too. I haven't gone back that far, I want to find Michael's wives and children before I go back to the cave days.

I read that the German names Johann and Anna were given more as a title than a name, so Michael Quigley has about three uncles named Johann, they were brothers and went by their middle names.

Scott

Michael Quigley is a son of Johann Michael Quickel and Fronica "Fancy" Kline.

I'm looking for his descendents. Wife's name is Mary Clark of England. He founded Beech Creek about 1812. Born 1777 or 1781. He had two daughters in the 1850 census (Frances and Emily) but several other children and maybe a first wife before Mary Clark. I'd like to get it all if anyone knows. Maybe Cline, Sampson N and others are his kids. I'm looking for the motherlode on this man. He performed marriages in Beech Creek. My key people (James Williams m Esther A Counsil) lived next to his nephew George Quiggle Williams in the mid 1800s.

Thanks.

Scott Robertson
aircaraccess@millenicom.com

Re: Quigley in Mass

Just wondering if you could help .... I have hit a brick wall on my Quigley research. I have a Daniel L Quigley b: 1821 in Mass. By 1850 he is in Ontario County, New York married to Mary Leech(Leach) with two children. According to the 1830 Mass census I found a James Quigley with a son about this age in Chester. I have no idea how to research this. I would appreciate any information or help.

hartz@peoplepc.com
I am so happy to get your response. Your Tom Quigley is definitely my mother's cousin. I presume the property you mentioned is the bording house in Lower Salthill--Nora (Quigley) Murphy--Tom and my mother's aunt owned it. My mother spent at least one summer working for her aunt, at the Prairie House. How are you connected? I would love to compare and share information with you. I know several of the Quigley cousins still in Ireland--but I have never met any of the American Quigley cousins.
