John QUINCEY ex-slave obit 1909

...from the Oklahoman Newspaper archives in Oklahoma City, OK, dated:

08-07-1909
p.4/14

The funeral of John Quincey was held yesterday afternoon at a negro church on East First street. Quincey was an ex-slave and lacked but 28 days of being 100 years old. His death was due to old age. Quincey was born at Mexico, Mo., and at the time of the Civil war was taken with several hundred other negroes to Texas for fear they might be freed. Following the emancipation he returned to Missouri, where he remained until 1891. He had been a member of the church for 74 years. During all his life he had never been ill until the last few days.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***
