I am Joe's half sister, the youngest of Wilfred Jr.'s children. I have very little knowledge of the Gibeault side of my family and would someday like a complete family tree. What's up Joe? How's Bubba?

My grandfather was Jose (Joseph)De Quintal who lived in south africa, pietermaritzburg - he was in his mid forties when he married my grandmother (Christina) who was 14 years old - (Jose was older than her father) - he worked in a wicker factory making wicker furniture with my grandmother's father - he had 4 children with my grandmother (1 died) - the marriage broke down when my grandmother was in her early twenties and he moved to cape town, south africa (never to be heard of again)- our family never knew anything about his family only that he came from Madeira - my mother Jesween (Jose's daughter) is now 83years old - she lost her left leg age 8, and all she can remember was that he was a short man with blue eyes who would shout at the pigeons (with fists raised) when they attacked his garden - would like to hear from someone who may have a connection even though it may be a long shot - my family all presently reside in Australia

Thank you

Irving W. Coburn - An Insane Bridegroom marries Ida B. Quintal

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 10 November 1893 ...

An Insane Bridgroom

Kansas City, Missouri, November 1 - Irving W. Coburn and Ida B. Quintal went to Independence yesterday and were married. Coburn refused to pay the fee of the Justice who performed the ceremony, and he also neglected to pay for some cigars he ordered at a drug store. Last night he was found alternately crying and shouting on the street in this city. He is now a raving lunatic. It is not known what became of the bride of a day.

Good Morning,
I have hoped someone from this line would reply, and thanks for your input. I had no idea who I married when I did. I fell for a Dumont. I have spent some time finding out about the fur trappers of the West, Many of your family are in these books. I looked up Augustin Delord(Delore)in the Catholic Church Records.Says"Quine" was his nick name and he was a scout & guide. He married Zoe and moved to Wasco Co. to raise eight kids. His father was Joseph,1792-1869, from Sorel,Canada. Gov.Simpson said he was "an able Steersman and an active hand with horse". All well known in Oregon Territory. I hope you have this stuff. I think the family has more on Delore`s in a file I was given a few years back. I became the family historian but have been overwelmed at times. Dawn`s family was cut out of the Cow Creek Tribe. It seems there was a riff with some on how to spend the gov. money and settled this by cutting out anyone who did not agree. Thus ,the Casino. Dawn and I found out about this when we happened to find her Grandfather in the Casino History. WE live in S.F. Bay Area and try to get up to S. Umqua once a year. We`ll be at the Casino from 8-25 to 8-28-08 this year to meet up with some of the family and look for more past. Chris Nash

Hi Chris,

This is for my wife's family. We live in Springfield, Zoe Quintal is her several generations back Grandmother, she married Augustus Delore (Metis, Shuswap tribe BC) from French Prairie. I saw a few photos but could not load them because they were tiny photos (brothers, ect). Their is also a connection with Nepesa (Nippising) the chief who negociated the treaty of 1855. Are you members of the Cow Creek? Zoe and Augustus Gus Delore. I believe the Delore's and Quintal were neighbors at French Praire (1830-1840) before moving down your way.

My wife is from Zoe`s brother,Louis Quintal. Margrette Quintal Dumont was her Great-Grand Mother and lived her whole life in the S. Umpqua river area near Tiller. We have some photo`s, but have little time to load, of some Quintal`s. I`ll look to see if we have any of Zoe. You can have alot of fun following the Quintal line back. I`m still learning my way around this site but contact me if you need help with the Quintal`s of S.Oregon.
Chris & Dawn Nash

Any relation noticable to the following? This is the info I have on my Cantile (Quintal?) branches:

Julius Cantile, born 9 Jul 1834, St Remi, Quebec. Married Catherine Parent, also of Quebec in May 1854, Ontario. They immigrated to Emmet Co., Michigan, U.S. with several children between the yrs 1871-1880. Both Julius and Catherine are listed on the 1871 Canadian census as Roman Catholics of French descent. I've had no leads into neither Julius nor Catherine's ancestry other than I do know Catherine had a brother, Louis Parent who was born in about 1835. Louis is recorded as a Canadian born widower living with one of Catherine's sons in 1910 in Michigan.
I am descended from Laurent & Marie Anne through their son Louis (hence the "L" in my name). All my records end at Laurent, and I had been told that the trail went cold there. Apparently (and happily), I was misinformed. If you would be willling to share any information with me that you have on this section of my family, I would be very appreciative. Feel free to email me directly, or through the list.
Hi,

My name is Marge Teagle. I am trying to search my Cantell relatives in VT. I am having a hard time. I found my Grandmother and Grandfather's marriage record in Vt which states his name was LeRoy Quintal. His father was Lyman Quintal and I guess when they came to VT it changed to Cantell. I am trying to find info on a John Cantell/Quintal who was married to a Locard Lebeau in VT. I cannot find anything on either of them. Have you run across these two names in your search? John and Locard had the following children: John, William, Lyman, Nelson, Julia, Thomas, Eli, Joseph, John, and Ernest. John was 30 some years older than Locard when they got married which leads me to believe he had another family before he married her.

Thank you for any help.

Marge

I am hoping someone can help me with a brick wall in my tree. My Great-Great-Grandfather was John Quintal. He was born in Canada East Abt. 1794. He moved to VT and the name became Cantell. He was married in East Berkshire, VT Abt. 1843 by a JP Stone. He married a Locard Lebeau, whom I have six different first and last names for. John was 30 some years older than her, which makes me think that he may have been married before in Canada. Their children were: John, Eli, William, Thomas, Lyman, Nelson-Barber, John Jr., Julia, Joseph, and Ernest. Julia was married to John-Everett Wheelock. I am beginnng to think Locard was Native American.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Marge

Hello Tony,

I've recently be able to trace my Quintal line to Caniço. My great-grandfather João (de) Quintal left Caniço in 1908 for Funchal and then left there for Massachusetts in 1913. He married Francisca dos Santos in Funchal in 1907. João's father was also a João (b. 1856) and his father was yet another João (b. 1827). They're all from Caniço.

Think that there may be a connection? Let me know. . . .

(de) Quintal/Quental of Caniço, Madeira

Hello All,

I'm looking to fill in my (de) Quintal/Quental family tree with more details. Thanks to the help of a distant cousin in California, I've been able to follow my de Quintal ancestors back to the 1500's in Caniço. My great-grandfather, João Quintal (1885-1976), was the one to leave the village (around 1908) when he married Francisca dos Santos and moved to Funchal. From there, he left for Massachusetts in 1913.

I've learned that João's father was also a João de Quintal (1856-) and his father was also a João (1827-), all from Caniço. This last João de Quintal was the son of Manoel and Joanna Rosa de Jesus, who married in Caniço in October 1819. I've got information on this line of Quintals (Quintais) all the way back to the 1500's and am looking for relatives/fellow researchers who might have looked up any additional information on these individuals - besides dob, dates of marriage.

Well, I also think it would be pretty neat to meet some distant cousins and see where all the Quintals have ended up in the world. :)

His grand daughter Amanda Julie Edwige married in 1888 Alexandre Lajoie son of François and Delphine Tremblay. Alexandre`s sister, Azama married in 1888 Louis-Pierre Quintal. It makes Amanda Julie the niece of Louis-Pierre. Does that make sense?

I should have added to the end of the last message. The names started to change in the Oregon Territory when the Catholic Priest started coming after 1832. The 1st records show Quintal, then thereafter a new spelling for the same family members, some on the same day.

So far these are the names I have come across for the Quintal family from French Prairie- Chantaul, Coutrell, Cantrel, Kantal, Chantelle, Sandad. These are all recorded from the Catholic Church Records of the Pacific Northwest & from birth cert. From Family & Friends of French Praire(Oregon), Laurent Quintal's family was traced back thru Canada & France, the name was written as Quintal. The names were recorded differently each time a new Priest recorded the family records, birth, bapitism, death...
