I am a descendent of Quintin Stockwell. You may read his captivity narrative (written by himself) in Increase Mather's "Remarkable Providences: An Essay For the Recording of Illustrious Providences" (1684). He came over from Banff, Scotland in the early 1600's.
Charles,

Is there any possibility that a member of the "Quintin" or "St. Quinton" family married a STOCKWELL around 1600-1640? I have a Quintin Stockwell, born about 1630-1640, possibly England or Scotland. The first mention of him is in the tax roles of Dedham, Massachusetts, USA, in December 1663. It is possible he was a Scottish prisoner of the Battle of Worcester or the Battle of Dunbar. Many of these prisoners settled at Dedham, Massachusetts. However, his name is not on any of the lists or the manifest of the "John and Sarah", the prisoner ship. The first name Quintin is an unusual name for a Stockwell and is not found elsewhere in our genealogy. Since is not unusual for a family to give one of their children their mother's surname, I just thought this family might be a possible link to Quintin Stockwell's past.

Hello,
I am reposting as I have changed my email address. I have traced my St. Quintin family back to 1771 in Hull, Yorkshire. I have not yet been able to link with the St. Quintin family of Scampston. William St. Quintin b. 1771 was a mariner. Through the ages my family moved to Hutchesontown, Scotland (abt. 1868) and eventually to Quebec (abt. 1873) and then on to B.C., Canada in 1890. Names associated with this family are listed above.
I have a great deal of info. to share with anyone related to this ST. QUINTIN family.

Quintin(on)'s,William,Mary,Margarett,LincolnCo.,Ky

l800 Census lists William Quinton in Lincoln Co. Ky. Have an autobiography that states my Mary Elizabeth Fletcher's mother's name was Mary E. Quinton. Mary Elizabeth Fletcher was born 1839 in Lincoln Co., Ky.
I have the marriage license of Mary Elizabeth Fletcher 1857 Boyle Co.(Danville),Ky with the signature of a Margarett Quintin as Mary's guardian.

I also have a letter that states our ancestor William Quinton, was a friend and neighbor of Lighthorse Harry E. Lee in Westmoreland Co.,Va. and served in his calvary and rose to the rank of Capt and was awarded for his distinguished service. Our family still has the silver knee buckles that he supposedly wore in a dress parade for Geo. Washington. Lighthorse Harry E. Lee was the father of Robert E. Lee.

I've had an extremely difficult time in researching the Quinton's in Kentucky or anywhere. Anyone have any ideas on how or where I should search? email: cbarron@midwest.net Thank you.

Hi Kaye:
Right now, I'm working on the Quinton family from Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire, England. I have them back to 1740. Common names are William, Richard, Joseph, John Robert. My G.G.Grandfather Joseph had many brothers and sisters who could have gone on to the U.S. but even before that there were many St. Quintin cousins in Hull. Good luck! I'll keep your name e-mail. I'm sure there will be a connection eventually. They were a very prominent family as I'm sure you found out by checking www.familysearch.org
Carol

St. Quintin

Hi!
Just stumbled across your message. I am researching St. Quintin. This family originated in France where Sir Henry St. Quintin fought with William the Conquerer at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. I have records of the St. Quintins in England in the 1100's. My family originated from this line but although I have many records I have yet to pin down just exactly with whom. I recently e-mailed with a person who has found Quintins in Canada (where I am) in the 1600's. Vermont isn't far.......maybe a link?? Check out St. Quintin at the Mormon site. Excellent and extensive pedigree charts there. Feel free to e-mail if you think this could help.
Carol

They appear to be from England orginally. They eventually moved to the Carolins via
Va and Barbados (I'm not sure if they are 2 separate groups.) From there they went to GA, Ky, Ak. Some intermarried w/ the Chrokees and moved to Okla. Another group settled in PA. They may have been France and may have been related to group from the Carolinas. Common first names: Samuel, Lewis,
Henry, James, John. Ring any bells?

Thanks.

David Quintin

I am searching for the parentage of David Quintin b. c. 1909 in Lassen Co., California. His mother was Annie Lindegard, can anyone confirm the father as David S. (Scott) Quintin...This man bought land in Lassen County in 1917. I find no other reference to him other than a death index stating b. 1884 d. 1963.
Mr. Quintin and Annie had 3 children before Divorcing, Fannie, Edna & David. David and Edna were living with Annie and her new husband, Charles Williams in Oroville, CA at the time of the 1920 census. Young David had a SSN that was issued in Nevada.
If you have any info regarding either Mr. Quintin or Annie Lindegard, I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hi Barry,

I am from the Samuel Quinton line that married into the Cherokees. I have Samuel, Samuel and William living in DeKalb Co, Georgia on the 1830 census pg. 72. The younger Samuel was married to Lydia Crittenden and they had at least 3 children born near Hightower River, GA (Cherokee Nation East). Samuel, Lydia and their children at the time emigrated in the spring of 1834, to he Cherokee Nation West. They moved to Arkansas where many of the Crittendens and Quintons were settled. I found Samuel, Sameul and William on a Polk Co, AR census in 1850 so it appears that my Samuel's father and brother both came out to AR too. I would like to share info with you.

Thanks,
Gina
