I have ancestors that listed Rabenhorst on a marriage license as the town in Pommern Germany that they came from. Is there a town named for your family?

No, I don't. My Ferdinand Rabenhorst ...so goes the story, died in an accident in which a tree fell on him and killed him. With years after the accident the wife and children started migration to the states. It started with a married daughter ...I would have to check my records again, which are not in front of me.

There is also confusion over this Alberta Sieg name as well.
If you family lives to ripe old ages ...we are probably genetically linked. I would to get a file on your Rabenhorst genealogy ...my side lived in and around Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota ...although cousins can be found here and there in Wisconsin. My grandmother's name was Elizabeth Rabenhorst and she married a German named Louis Balzer. In visiting the Mankato Genealogy-Historical locastion in Mankato ...Alberta Sieg bacame another last name ...I don't have in front of me right now.

Good to hear from you.
My gg grandfather was August Rabenhorst (1819-1873). His wife was Sophie Mews. They immigrated from Pomerania (near Kolberg) in the 1860's, and settled initially in Manitowoc County. Their children were August (1851), Emilie (1856), John (1858), Amalie (1861), Alvine (1862), Wilhelm (1865) and Wilhelmina (1868).

From the birth years of my August and your Ferdinand it is possible they were brothers or cousins. Do you have any informataion on Ferdinand's siblings or parents?

I believe Ferdinand died in Germany, his wife Albertine Sieg came to MN around 1884,and she lived with my Great grandpa Herman Schutte & his wife Amelia Rabenhorst(Daughter of Ferdinand &Albertine. Albertine was born 12-21-1827,and she passed away 5-19-1910 in Mapleton,MN. Her gravestone is right next to my great grandparents in the union cemetery in Mapleton,MN. 2 of the children of Ferdinand & Albertine died young in Germany, the others August,Amelia,John,Herman,Ann Elizabeth all came to MN,and I have info on some of their families.

I am also searching a Rabenhorst line in Manitowoc County and am familiar with your line. While I cannot offer you anything beyond William Rabenhorst, I would not be surprised if our ancestors were somehow related. Brothers? Cousins?

My ancestor is August Rabenhorst, who was married to Sophie Mews. They emigrated from Pomerania and settled in the Town of Gibson, Manitowoc County in about 1870. Augsut died in 1873. They arrived in 1861 and first settled in the Town of Newton. I have more information if you are interested.

Re: Gottlieb Rabenhorst

Gottlieb Rabenhorst died in 1906 and is buried at the German Baptist Cemetery in Lebanon (Dodge County) WI. There is also a Wilhelmina Rabenhorst buried there (b. 1824; d. 14 July 1889).

Their son, Herman Rabenhorst (b. 12 Feb 1865; d. 26 Feb 1925), was married to Mary Louise Goetsch (b. 9 Jan 1869; d. 12 Jan 1944).

There was a Johann Gottlieb Rabenhorst who came to America from Fanger, Kreis Naugard, Pommerania in 1843 with the Joachim Krueger family -- JGR was listed as stepson/hired hand of the family. Not certain this is YOUR GR, but worth investigating.

If you ever get to Madison WI, check with the State Archives -- they have journals, letters & photos of the Krueger family which quite likely have more info for you.
