Rafters living in Ireland today

Bridget Rafter born abt 1843 married Thomas Ray. They lived in Cloonta, County Mayo. After his death at the end of the 1890s, Bridget Rafter took her children to America, where they settled in New Jersey. Bridget is suppose to be the daughter of Patrick Rafter and Bridget Rafter. I would like to find people in the are today who are descendants of this family, or anyone who knows anything about this family and their descendants, or the family of Bridget's husband, Thomas Ray, who is suppose to be the son of Peter Ray.

Anna Raftery/Rafter? Born in Ire. Between 1830 & 1859

We are trying to find an Anna (last name on Son's death certificate is not 100% clear, but looks like Rawfter, rafter, raftery, something like that.
She was apparently born in Ireland (family says they were from Sligo, but I have been unable to find proof)
She Married a James Welch, and they immigrated to the US. Apparently settling in Ohio (Oxford/Butler area)
They have one son that we know of, Our great grandfather, Thomas Martin Welch who was born in 1877, He married a protestant girl and was basically excommunicated from the family, which has left us in the dark and unable to find much.
If anyone can help me, it would be REALLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Katrina

welch.katrina@gmail.com

Could you please give me more information on where you found this family, and if you know where in Ireland they came from? I've been searching for Michael and Catherine Rafter with approximately those birthdates--would be interested to see if these are any relation.

Thank you.

Rafters In Sligo

Can anyone help me?
I'm looking for a Margaret Rafter born about 1860 in Sligo.

I have information about her from her 2nd marriage cert and census but nothing has turned up to find her birthplace.

Her 1st marriage is to ? Kelly. No record has been found. (maybe a publician)
Her 2nd marriage is to Francis Mc Manus in 1893 Sligo. On that cert, she is living in Ballina, she's a publician and widow. Father is Patrick Rafter a farmer.
On census, she states she is born in Sligo. And she's not that accurate about her age.

Local knowledge suggest these Rafters were from the Enniscrone / Kilglass area, around Carragaree.
Her first child from her 2nd marriage was born in Enniscrone so it does look connected to her. Unfortunately, so far no Margaret Rafter has be spotted there.

(Apologies if this sounds familiar, I also posted in a Mayo board)

Re: Rafters in Mayo Ire.

Sorry for not getting back to reply earlier.
I can't figure out if you do have a connection or not.
Since I put up that message I'm now inclined to believe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Local knowledge about Rafters has suggested that the one I'm looking for may have come from the Enniscrone area.
More specifically, Carragaree. It's not a million miles from Mayo all the same and the boarder between the two counties has changed over the years.

The only hard evidence I have is scant. But on later census she says she was born in Sligo. Her age changes back and forth between 1860-1864. I suspect she's making herself younger. She marries 3 times.
1st to ? Kelly. No record found.
2nd to McManus 1893. At that time she's in Ballina and is a publician and widow.
She list her father as Patrick Rafter a farmer.

Unfortunely I've got no futher in pinning her birthplace down.

Think I'll start over with a new message and be a little more exact.

Thanks for letting me in on your Rafters, I'll keep them in mind.

I believe that we may have a connection. I have an ancestor Michael Owen Rafter who was also a farmer in Ballina. Bofield to be more precise. He would have been born about the same time frame as your Margaret. Today that farm is owned by James Rafter and his wife Mary. The place is called Bofield Farm.

Andrew Rafter is said to be a member of Parliment at Dublin, Ireland probably around 1820-1835. My interest in Andrew is to hopefully find his sister Margaret and her husband Martin Crosby. They married ca 1820 and lived in Laurencetown, Co. Galway, Ireland when their dau. Mary Elizabeth Crosby was born July 1831. Martin d. 1837 and Margaret (Rafter) Crosby and her children, John, Ann, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah, Ellen, Michael, and Jane emigrated to Boston, MA, USA.
Charles Stowe, 18003 Vintage Dr., Grass Valley CA 95949

Hi Ray,

Well thanks to the wonderful efforts and hard work of a woman in Grand Rapids we were able to find that Ellen died 2-11-1933 in Kalamazoo,Michigan and was buried without a head stone in Greenwood Cemetery in Grand Rapids,Michigan. Lot 2 Block V #76. Her death certificate is in the Grand Rapids records book 16 page 287 her obit was in the Grand Rapids Herald listed as Elsie Rafter. She was born 4-1-1839 to Reuben and Mary Abbie Bilby. She married John Rafter in Galesburgh,Michigan on 7-18-1868 by S. Bristol, Justice of the Peace.. I am told he is buried in an unmarked grave in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids I have not investigated his information as yet. Hope this helps you

Jan

Looking for information on our GG Grandmother Ellen Bilby Rafter. She was born about 1850 married John Rafter and had a daughter Mary Ellen Rafter who married John Morrissey plus others. In 1930 Ellen was in a Grand Rapids,Michigan hospital for feeble minded being at the time age 80. Since that time we have not been able to place her. We have no records of death or burial. We do know she was not buried with her husband John Rafter. If anyone knows how we can find out what happened since the 1930 hospitalization of Ellen or has information as to where she might be buried or when she died please contact us
Thanks
Jan

I am trying to find out information on my grandfather. My mothers maiden name is Dolores Rafter and her brother is William Rafter. I am looking for information on my grandfather whose name is William Rafter, I know that he served in the army in WWII. My mother has never spoken about my grandfather until today with me. I know that my mom grew up in Philadelphia and apparently my grandfathers' family owned several bars possibly in the philadelphia area.
Any information that could be given to me would be greatly appreciated.
Mayme Rafter, born 1855, lived Green Co., WI, dau of Mariah Rafter, & wife of Charles Edwards

I have an original carte de visite photograph of “Mayme Rafter”, which I would like to get back to family members. Written on the back of the photo is “Frank & Frank”, if that would be of any help. Photo was taken in about 1870, by “C. W. Lucas, Photographer, Exchange Square, Brodhead, Wisconsin”, and Mayme looks to be about 18 years old in the photo. Brodhead is in Green Co.

I found Mary Rafter Edwards in the 1900 census for Albany (Green Co.) WI, with DOB Oct 1855. Mary’s husband was Charles Edwards, age 40, and living with them was her mother, Mariah Rafter (born Ireland in Nov 1824), a widow.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Mayme Rafter.

Andrew and his sister Margaret Rafter

Andrew Rafter is said to be a member of Parliment at Dublin, Ireland. The date would be around 1820-1835. My interest in Andrew is to hopefully find his sister Margaret who married Martin Crosby ca 1820 and lived in Laurencetown, Galway, Ireland at the birth of their dau. Mary Elizabeth Crosby in July 1831. Margaret (Rafter) Crosby and her children, John, Ann, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah, Ellen, Michael, and Jane emigrated to the United States, Boston.
Charles Stowe, 18003 Vintage Dr., Grass Valley CA 95949

I am looking for relatives of Daniel Rafter. He was from Hazelton, Pennsylvania. He was married to Anna Kellner, also of Hazelton. They had three children, John, Mary and Daniel. I believe they also lived in Mt. Carmel. I think he died around 1909. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I know your message is from a couple years ago - did you ever find information? James & Mary are my ancestors (through Michael) as well and we have some information. What we've found is they are definitely from Sligo. Would be interested in comparing information you've found too.
