Recently i've become very involved in doing a genealogy of my family and fortunately I stumbled upon this message board.

I haven't gotten too far but this is what i do have:

There are two sides to my Ragin family which makes my research a little difficult because when I find people I don't know to which side of the Ragin family they belong. (Even though i'm sure they are all interrelated)

So far I have this:

My mother's mother (my grandmother) is Dorothy Mae Ragin (Simmons)

Her mother was Henrietta(Haney) Ragin. She died in 1994.
Henrietta was the daughter of Laura Ragin (Richardson) also called Aunt or big sweet by some. She died in 1988.
Laura Ragin (Aunt Sweet) was the daughter of Mary Antoinette Martin and Aaron Ragin. I have Aaron ragin born in 1831 according to the 1880 census - and Mary Antoinette born in 1864 according to the same census.

Aaron J.(for Jaren or Jared) Ragin three wives...

In the 1880 Census he was married to Serena(Sarena?)
from this union the children were (in 1880)
Rausom
Ann
Johnson
Cillauder
Lillia
Harriet
Sarah
Aaron E.
Aarm was the grandson at the time.

By 1900 he had remarried - His new wife was Mary Antoinette or Antoinette Mary - and from this Union the children were:
Laura(Miss Sweet, Aunt Sweet, Big Sweet) Who is/ was my gr-gr grandmother(henrietta's mother who is dorothy's mother)
Theresa
John
Louise

Now that is just the one side of the family of ragins. My Grandmother's(dorothy) maternal side. On her paternal side
from what i know:

Her father is/was

Robert Ragin - he had a brother named rufus and a brother named Nathaniel I believe.

His parents were General Lee and Mariah(Maria?) Ragin.


If there is anyone who knows anything more about either sides of the family - especially Aaron ragin's parents, Please, please, please contact me.

Or better yet, aaron's second wife - Mary (mother of miss sweet) if anyone is kin to her-
her parents were
Moses Martin and Laura(a full blood indian)

- I would love to be contacted, and perhaps we can compare notes. I'm sure i have meager info compared to you guys but what I do have I am more than willing to share.
