I realize it has been several years since you posted this question so you may have already found the information you were looking for. My father was Paul Ragsdale of Plainfield, Indiana. His wife, my mother, was Dorothy Frances Ragsdale and she preceded him in death in Aug, 2000. They had five children who are all living. John P. Ragsdale, Rachel Ragsdale Sammons, me (Carol Ragsdale Thomas), Ruth Ragsdale Deakin and James W. Ragsdale.

John Ragsdale

I am helping my uncle look for information about his great grandfather. His name was John Boone, but he supposedly was John Ragsdale and was adopted by the Boones. He thinks John was born in KY, 1852. It was said he was a drummer boy during the Civil War and that was when his name was changed from Ragsdale to Boone. He was married in Soddy, TN, and died in Petros TN in 1928. He married Mary Isabell Riddle. Any information would be helpful.

If this is Samuel Ragsdale, born to William T. Ragsdale born Feb 1855, .I think William T. Ragsdale was a brother to my Great-Grand-Father James A Ragsdale, born 1862. My grand-Father Mandelvilee Ragsdale and samuel would have been first cousin. I found all this family register on the 1900 centus, all living in Cullman Alabama. Don't know if this will help you or not. Do you know who Samule's father was. Was it William T.

Sallie Cowan is thought to be a daughter of James Cowan and Frances Garrett of Laurens Co SC. In the 1820's the family was living near the Reedy River in the northwest corner of the county. James Cowan is said to have built the meeting house for the Lebanon Methodist Church there in 1832, as well as a bridge nearby, where a segment of country road is still known as Cowan's Bridge Road. The Ragsdale family were early members of the church, and Peter and Sallie moved to Marshall Co AL with her parents and other local families.

Does anyone have old family photos or family stories of the Peter Ragsdale or Cowan family?

Gary Cowan
Fort Worth, Texas

Thanks Thomas for the information. Maude is my grandmother - she married a Carroll. I am a descendant of her daughter Lula. I would appreciate any information you have - I can find a lot of info regarding my grandfather Ezra but not on my grandmother Maude. Sorry for the delay getting back to you but I have dial up at home and I have to do this at work. If you have any info regarding Maude's mother that would be great. I think she was Indian - Cherokee??? I believe Eva was known to me as Aunt Evie. I went to Rochester many years ago and met Delia - Maude's step mother. This could be the breakthru I have been looking for.
Thanks so much!!! Carol Gene

I am looking for information on my mother's birth mother, Josephine Simmons Ragsdale. She married Lewis Ragsdale and they lived in the El Dorado Springs Missouri area. They were married sometime in the late 1950s or in the 1960s. Any information would be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance.

Amber

It looks like the brothers might have been in Platte County, Missouri according to the 1840 census. I couldn't find Jordan (my great, great, great grandfather) but when I looked for William, birthdate about 1812 (just a guess) I found what appears to be a Jordan and a William. When comparing childrens ages it seems to fit.

I would love any information that you might have or family pictures that might include Jordan and/or Lucinda. Any family history would be greatly appreciated. I am working on the family tree for my grandfather who will be 97 this Sept. He is the great grandson of Jordan through Joseph B Ragsdale.

hk you in advance,
Linda

Hi,

Thank you so much for responding. Any information that you can share I would be very grateful for.

I have information about my grandfather's immediate family and know that my great grandmother, May Belle, was John Adam Ragsdale's second wife. John and his first wife Idella (Gooch) Ragsdale had a daughter, Lucile. May Belle and John had two sons, Joseph B. and John, Jr.

My grandfather remembers growing up in Martin and Jackson. We have some pictures of May Belle and John, but nothing before that. I understand that the Ragsdales and Bloodworths owned a store. Do you know of anyone that might have a photo?

Again, thanks for your help,

Linda

James Newton Ragsdale

Hi everyone who is interested. My cousin Cathy and I found James Newton Ragsdale's grave about two years ago. He's buried in Ravenden, AR in Lawrence County. His grave is now marked with a new headstone,it's small, but that's all we could afford at the time. He's buried in the Dail Family Cemetery just leaving Ravenden. The cemetery is owned by the Dail Family, who the great grandfather of some of them, was the coroner who did the inquest into the death of James Ragsdale.
Thanks,

Marie Smith
