Thanks for your response, I would be very interested in hearing Ed"s stories about the war and POW experiences during captivity. As I indicated previously I'm aware of 2 drawings he created and in the possesion of family members and museums. Apparently I live a good distance from him but would again enjoy getting more info. Thanks for your help. Sorry about the delay of response I have away from the computer, Virg Karstens

Hi, sorry about the delay in response to your reply. My Herman Rahn would have been captured in N. Africa about 2-17 to 2-23 1943. The POW's were taken to various prison camps in Italy and eventually a Stalag 3B in Germany where they were liberated in 1945
There is a drawing on a linen like material with all of the POW's listed and their travels and camps. I have located 2 of these and feel there are more around.
I too think your great uncle would have been a POW at the same time and I would send pictures of the drawing if you would like. Thanks for your interest and response.

It may be helpful for us all to add where our Illinois Rahn's came from. Mine came from Hesse Darmstadt in 1845 to Hancock County, Illinois.
Justus Rahn was the immigrant and his father was Johann Georg. His mother was a Stumpf.

Nancy

I can tellyou that most of my Rahn families came from 1) Carlshorst West Prussia Germany or 2)Dombrowko Westpreussen Prussia Germany or 3)Bukowitz Westpreussen Germany. This might help you to see where I come in at in Rahn families.
Robin

Rahn's of Harrisburg, PA

I have spent quite a bit of time searching John Rhan of Hummelstown before I was able to determine this was not my line of Rahn's. The U.S. Census has not helped since apparently my line was not enumerated. I have found what I believe to be the "right" line in the Harrisburg City Directories. I have found a Harris Rahn in the 1878 directory married to Ann. They had atleast one son: John. John had an unknown wife and they had atleast two and maybe three sons: William, Harry T.(born in 1879) and maybe Melvin (born in 1876). Harry T. had two wives: Bathia, married in 1899; and Marguerite Thompson, married in 1913.

Does any of this fit your line?

Pete

I am looking for information on John T. Rahn. He would be my grandmothers great-great grandfather. I have in my possession his Certificate of Release of Prisoner of War in 1865, so guessing he was born abt. 1845. I have no information on his offspring except that my grandmother Catherine's mother was named Susie P. Rahn and died in 1912 giving birth to my grandmother. Missing a Rahn generation around 1870 or so. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it.

Papertown? Up near Halifax? I would love to know more about that branch because many of us believe we are part of it. Can you fill me in? Was your spelling always Rahn? My lines are Rhan to 1780, at least from gravemarkers.

Rahn born 1873 to Charles S. and Sarah Jane. Charles was b. 12/9/1849 - his parents were Geo Wm. and Rachael McGarth.
Minnie married Charles W. Zeigler and had my Grandfather Wilbert and I can't find him after 1930. Can't find her either after 1910.
Anyone have any info would make me happy.

I live in Effingham County. The Local Historical Society has an abundance of information on the Rahn Families from this County. One of the ladies that volunteers her time is also a Rahn decendant. I know the line that I am a decendant of has a book that documents the line back to Austria, from what I remember a portion of my line ended up in PA. I haven't seen the book since I was a child.

Hi Jon: Just wondering if you have seen the pics of the Rhan Family Bible I uploaded. I am going to include them in my family tree (which is what I probably should have done initially). Still finding my way around the 'genealogy thing'. Take a look at Bonnie's Family Tree at Ancestry.com. Be in touch. BJW

I married into the Rahn family and my husband does not have any information at all about his ancesters and I am trying to find out more so he can at least know his heritage.
So far I have only gone back to his great grandparents, and I got this information from an obituary I found online of his grandfather. I can go back as far as William M. & Vandeline R. (Yuntz) Rahn. If you have any information that would help me in my search I would be forever greatful. Thanks, Alice Rahn

I am related to all the Rahns in Henry County and so I have aked for a few other Rahn family info such as yours near Henry County to see where they might fit into the Henry County Rahn families. There is also alot of Rahn families from Red Bud & Lanark IL which Ive been trying to see if they can fit into the lines too. It looks like they all came from the same area in Germany so they must fit together somewhere. I will have to see where I got WWI info it must go to another Rahn I have alot of Rahn military cards from ancestry so Ill go check maybe that is where I got the info.
Yes I have all this but there are a few mistakes in that information Arthur didn't die in WWII he die in a train wreck is what I've been told by my mom his daughter. No I don't know my Ggrandfather's parents name. I'm told that the information is on a German ancestry site but it won't translated to English. So if you know german or have a friend who does it would be helpful. By the way how are you related???
