Familytree Maker software messed up the birth order, but I think everyone is here. The post lost some of the fomatting, too, so I hope you can follow how the children and grandchildren of Philip Raiford migrated from South Carolina to Mississippi and Louisiana and filed claims against his estate in Autauga, Alabama. I have more descendants at my tree, but report was partly corrupted so I will not post here. Link to Philip Raiford at my tree. Some documents are posted, but have more to scan and add.

Henry Holmes, who killed Malachi Raiford, can be found living with Malachi's brother, Robert Raiford in Marshall, MS in 1850.

I can't help with Patience other than she was alive and well in 1880 living with James J Vickers and their son william W and daughter Sarah in Gonzales, Texas

Malachi Raiford was murdered in May 1851 in Caddo by Henry Holmes per a Massachusetts news item dated May 29, 1851. His widow Patience married James Vickers in Caddo, LA, in 1852, so I would presume this was in Louisiana.

Extracted from Jacksonville Florida Times Union obit of unknown date in 1914 and death cert:
Mrs Fannie J Raiford died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Virgil G Shearer, 222 Phelps St in Jacksonville FL on 10 Sept 1914 at the age of 84 years old.
(note Virgil Gardner Shearer also died in 1914)
Fannie's father was Hamilton Jefferson and her mother was Ann Kuntz.
Cemetery was not mentioned.

Do you any info regarding Robert Raiford Wooley or William A. Wooley from North Carolina? I was told by a great aunt they had a large plantation in Montgomery NC and most of the son's died in the Civil War and lost the planation. It is now part the National Forest located their?

William Raiford's son William B. Raiford died without children; his estate (RECORDS IN NC ARCHIVES) His father died in 1798 (his will in NC archives). His wife is Apsilla. His son Philip BALLARD Raiford died in 1844 (HIS WILL, AND THE RECORD OF APPEAL IN RAIFORD V. RAIFORD ARE IN THE NC ARCHIVES NAMING ALL THE CHILDREN AND HEIRS). They are descended from Robert Raifore (MATTHEWS BROTHER CUMBERLAND CO; ROBERT DIED BEFORE MATTHEW IN JOHNSTON CO; THEY WERE BOTH VESTRYMENT-ALL THESE RECORDS ARE IN THE NC ARCHIVES). William Russel's book (frankly) has the Cumberland Co. Raifords totally mixed up with the JOHNSTON/WAYNE COUNTY RAIFORDS. Needham Raiford form Ms father was Philip Ballard Raiford d. 1844 and Needham was the 1/2 brother of Philip Ballard Raiford and William Bethea Raiford of Mississippi (though listed in census out of Needhams household because they moved to MS after their father, Philip Ballard Raiford d. 1844! IT IS ALL RECORDED IN DOCUMENTS!!!!! I have copies of every one of these documents. Please, Please straighten this mess out on the internet. Other documents prove it was impossible for Philip Raiford from Johnston County or William Raiford from Johnston to be the sons of Matthew Raiford whose sons by theat name in Cumberland Co. COULD NOT HAVE ACTIVITIES ON THE SAME DATES AND YEARS IN TWO DIFFERENT COUNTIES.

Bill had worked mightily on the RAIFORD family and helped in the restoration of the RAIFORD-MUNFORD Cemetery near Corinth.

Many researchers only knew him by his handle "civilwarbill."

While were corresponded often, I only had the pleasure of meeting him once, at the RAIFORD reunion. He seemed like a great guy.

William K. Raiford SUFFOLK - William Kenneth Raiford, 50, of the 3900 block of Breezeport Way, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011. A native of Portsmouth, he was born May 31, 1960 to the late John and Erma Raiford. Bill was proud of his job as an electronics engineer with the government; and had a passion for history, most specifically, genealogy and the Civil War era; and enjoyed amateur radio. He was a member of the Southampton Historical Society, the Sons of Confederacy, the AARL (Amateur Radio Relay League); and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia Motley Raiford; a daughter, Ashlyn Raiford; four sons, Taylor, Brandon, Evan, and Bryce Raiford; a sister, Judy R. Pantelides and her husband Thomas; and many other extended family and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4320 Bruce Road, Chesapeake, VA 23321 by the Rev. Bob Weeks. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund that is being set up for his children.

OMG! We are definitely related! Where are you located? I know my father, Nolen and my aunt, Bernice Fisher Hiter, always talked about Estis and Hull and I think it was Lambert (?) that died in the explosion at Mooseheart. I haven't been doing much in the genealogy line for several years. My dad died in 1992, Mom died in 1999 and Aunt Beebee (as we called her) died in 2000. You mentioned that Eddie was "Eddie Moore Nummy Alexander". I did't know she married an Alexander. Can you give me information about that marriage? And more information about John Riley and his death. The person who wrote to Mooseheart was my cousin, Sybil Mulder, who is related to you, too, as many of the Mulder men married Nummy women. My grandmother, Merriweather Garland Nummy, the youngest, was the sister of your Eddie Moore, the oldest of the Nummy women and they married father and son, John Riley being the father married to Eddie Moore and George W. married to
Merriweather Garland, my grandmother.

Eddie Moore Nummy Alexander and Mary C's daughter)was my Great Grandmother, who married my Great Grandfather John Riley Collins.
When my grandfather, Estice Collins, was a small boy, Eddie died of TB, and John Riley died shortly after.
The sons of Eddie Nummy were raised in the Mooseheart Orphanage, outside of Chicago.
In 1997, someone by the last name of Moulder wrote a letter to the Orphanage inquiring about what ever happend to Eddie's boys. She had many sisters, so I'm assuming someone connected to her side of the family was the person who wrote the letter.

Any connections or every hear about this family story, please let me know.

Maribel Nummy was my grandmother, she had no middle name and it was not a nickname. Maribel was my mother's mother and I knew her, she died in the late 1990's. My grandmother shows up on the Alabama 1910 census with her family; her father and mother. The names on the census are Alexander and Sallie Nummy married with children Alexander, Anita, Elfie,and Katherine. They were all born in Alabama. The 1910 census is available. I know that there was a court house fire that destroyed some records in Alabama. My grandmother's father was Alexander Nummy, I beleive his father was also named Alexander and I know my grandmother's brother, my great uncle was also named Alexander Nummy. Alexander is a family name and I have a brother with Alexander as his middle name. I know the Nummy family came from N. Ireland. Does this information help? however I haven't foun anything else. My great grandmother Sallie died just before I was born as did my great granfather.

Mary Catherine Raiford Nummy is my gr grandmother. She married Alexander Nummy in 1862 in Alabama. They had a daughter, Sallie who married George Ledbetter. But I don't show a Sallie married to Alexander Nummy in the entire line and I don't see a Maribel Nummy. They may have come to Gonzales through Ellis Co from Deep South - Georgia or Alabama. Also, see Hamilton County, TX. My Raiford line is traced through John Calhoun Raiford, one of David R's sons. He is my g,g grandfather. John C. Raiford is buried in Rockmart, Ga in the city cemetary in a family plot.He is buried 20 feet away from my grandparents (my Dad). Several relatives, including several uncles, are buried there.

I was looking again at your message on the message board. You said the tombstone of David Raiford's wife "reads" a certain date. You must have seen it. Where is Odell cemetary in Laurens county, South Carolina?
I go near Laurens county at times when I go north to visit friends. I would love to visit the cemetary and take pictures.

Thank you so much for your response to my inquiry. I am new at this and have been having a hard time getting past David Raiford's time to the names of his father/mother and beyond. I really need this info if you have it.
I have one piece of info: a will mentioning David (age 19) and Elizabeth Raiford (sister, age 15), entitled Wm. Raiford children, Fairfield SC 1821. I would be happy to send you a copy of it.
David Raiford is also my g-g grandfather through John Calhoun Raiford, the fifth child. I have a history of J. C. Raiford's Civil war record. He received a battlefield commission, fought in most of the major engagements and was mustered out at Appamattox Courthouse.
I would appreciate any info you might have on David Raiford and his descendants.
Look up the Raiford family tree which is posted on Ancestry.com. It might help you and I would enjoy sharing any additional info with you as I find it.

I'm trying to pinpoint a time & place of death for Patience and Malachi Raiford. In the 1850 Census for Marshall Co., Miss., she is listed with her 1st husband, Malachi Raiford, and their 3 children, Robert Malachi, Jr., & Susan. I"m guessing Malachi died in Marshall Co.,Miss., sometime after 1850 and before March 21, 1852, when Patience married for the 2nd time, James J. Vickers. James, 55, and Patience, 37 are listed in the 1860 Census for Hempstead Co., Arkansas with, Anah (Hannah) C., 15, (Child Of J.J. from a previous marriage), R. W. 15, Malachi, 13, Susan, 11, F.G. Vickers, 10/ m, Hardy, 6/ m, L.A., 4/ m & William W., 1. In the 1870 Census for Hempstead Co., Arkansas, there is a James Vickers, 60, listed with wife Nancy, 49, Bettie, 24/ f, Sam, 20/ m and M. J. 15/ F. What I would like to know is if this James Vickers is the same person who was married to Patience. If so then it can be assumed, that Patience died sometime before 1870 in Hempstead Co., Ark. Whatever help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank - you, Ellen
NOTE:in the 1860 Census, Hempstead Co., J. J. is 55, and in the 1870 Census, Hempstead Co., James is 60. Must be a typo.
