Re: 61st Georgia Regiment CSA

I have some recent information that located this year. I have never run across any Raines relatives that had the first name of Fred or Frederick. My great grandfather who was William Jordan Raines of Wrightsville, Johnson County, GA did have a brother named John Thomas Raines who is buried in the Maddux Cemetery just west of Wrightsville on land that William Jordan use to own and is now owned by his decendents. John Thomas was married to Mary Elizabeth Walker who is buried in the town of Wrightsville at West View Cemetery. All of the available information has since been entered into "www.findagrave.com" with all available pictures including those I took. I was in Wrightsville in early May 2009 and asked available relatives who the parents were for William Jordan and John Thomas Raines but no one had a clue. After I returned, I tried this one website "www.familysearch.org" that someone had told me about and found that the parents of William Jordan (and John Thomas) Raines was Martin Raines (how about that) and Ellafair Braddy i.e. the name you identified in your last post. The only info they had about the pair was that Ellafair Braddy was born about 1830. Now I know that William Jordan Raines named his first son Martin Luther Raines (my grandfather) after his father. Hope this helps to plug any holes. Regards

Looking for Jake Raines (born c 1885 in TN or KY). He married Melda Foster (daughter of Morris and Jane Rellford, born c 1888 in KY). Four children: William (c 1905 - I believe died young), Pearl (c 1906 - my great grandmother), Earl (c 1910) and Anna Mae (c 1812). I can't figure out who Jake's father was and that's what's blocking my way. I found Jake Raynes in the 1910 census, Jake Gaines in the 1920 census and Jake Rains on the 1930 census all in Scott, TN. Any information as to his family would be appreciated. My grandmother remembers a Lake Rains as a relative (but she's unsure of how - either step-brother or uncle). Thanks!

~Katie

Thanks for your reply :-) I have emailed Melva also; it does get frustrating though... I sometimes wonder if this man really existed at all? Of course, all I have are legends and rumor to go on, no hard evidence... I will check past posts for leads and hopefully glean some new angles to investigate. If I make any headway, I'll be sure to share with you.

I have just received this reply...9 years later.

Thanks for the information! I'll follow that lead. I believe that I have met some of Eddie O's children and I remember my grandmother speaking of him, too.

There is no doubt that this is the same line! Hello cousin!! :-)

Ariane

I think the 2nd son's name is Lynville O. Raines, rather than Lyuville. (Maybe a typo?)

Anyhow, he's in the Ohio death index as d 17 Dec 2002 in Greenville, Darke Co., Ohio. His body was shipped out of state for burial – perhaps to Indiana.

I'm following the JONES line of Nancy. Almost as much fun as following McCarty folks, I'll bet.

Did Garold end up in Sioux City, Iowa? (and do you happen to know who Wilma married?) Thanks for any hints.

John in Massachusetts

This line has been researched for years and seems to come to a dead end. Good luck on your quest. This is my line as well and I would be very interested in what you may find. Melva has much knowledge on the Raines family. Others that have researched before you and would post have not shown up on the message boards lately. Have you searched the message boards? Sometimes past posts provide a great deal of info.
