The Ida Rany and T.C. Pace in the marriage record you show are my great-grandparents. The T.C. stands for Thomas Clint. Ida married Jack Sisco after my great grandfather died in 1900. Ida and Jack were married June 1, 1902 in Lewis County and they are buried at Edwards Cemetery in Hickman County. Thomas Clint Pace is buried at Bethel Cemetery in Hickman County. Ida Rainey's parents were James M. "Jim" Rainey and Minerva Bates Rainey.

Ida's middle name was Irene. She and Clint Pace had 4 children....3 of them I can account for: Willie Rutherford Pace, Nancy Elizabeth Pace (my grandmother), and Edna Lena Pace. There was a child who passed away sometime before the 1900 census. Ida and Jack Sisco also had some children...I have 5 listed that belong to the both of them and I'm not sure if that's all of them. Jack had some children before marrying Ida but at least 5 belong to them both.

I looked through my Rainey's and I don't have a William Ollie Rainey but my Rainey's are still pretty thin at this point.

I don't know if Thomas Rainey of SC is connected to the Raineys of NC and KY, but it certainly is a possibility. Joseph 1754 and his brother John b. in 1757 were both born in NJ and travelled to NC then to TN. It is thought that James Rainey b. ca 1752 who was also in NC then on to Pulaski Co., KY might be a brother to Joseph and John, but no proof-just speculation. All three of the men served in Rev. War from NC. We don't know who the parents are for John and Joseph.
The parents of Aaron Rainey are: James and Lydia (surname unk) Rainey as evidenced by the death records of Pulaski Co., KY. "Aaron Rainey d. 18 Nov 1857, age 72yrs; b.TN; Parents: James and Lydia Rainey; cause of death: Liver cpt-consumption."

There is also a John Rainey b. ca 1739 who was in Orange Co., NC. His father, John Rainey was b. ca 1710 in Northumberland Co., VA. and was in Caswell Co., NC. Don't know if they are connected to Joseph and John or James Rainey.
Hello,

Thanks for your reply. There are some posts on the Humphreys genealogy forum showing evidence that George Humphries of Pulaski Co., KY originally came from Pendleton District, SC. I was wondering if anyone had traced George further back from there. George named a son Bolar and had dealings with a Philip Bowlware in Pendleton District. There was a William Humphries of Edgefield Co., SC whose two daughters married Boulwares, so I have wondered if George might be associated with that Humphries family. A John Humphries came to Pendleton District SC about the time that George left. (John is not connected to William of Edgefield, but to a different Humphries family.) John's cousin, ? (unknown first name) Humphries married a Thomas Rainey in Chester Co., SC about 1790. This Thomas is thought to be the son of John and Rachel Rainey. So it is interesting to me that George's daughter in KY who was a Humphries married a Rainey and a Humphries girl in Chester Co. SC also married a Rainey. I don't think the two Humphries families are connected, but I wonder if the Raineys might be, way back. Does anyone know Aaron Rainey's ancestry? I have seen speculation, but nothing that seemed certain.

Thanks.

Charlene

Hi Charlene,
I also show that Mary "Polly" Humphries was the dau. of George Humphries b. ca 1770 (inNC per the 1850 Pulaski Co., KY census) and his wife Charlotte ____ b. ca 1775 SC. Aaron and Polly's dau., Frankla? was in the household of her grandparents in 1850. I am sorry, I don't have any more information on the Humpfries. I don't have any other Raineys/Raneys who married a Humphrie/Humpfrey in my database, but I can look if you give me names.

Hello,

I have that Polly Humphries was the daughter of George and Charlotte Humphries of Pulaski Co. KY. There is evidence that George was originally from Pendleton District, SC before going to KY about 1800. A Philip "Boulware" (source of the name "Boler?")witnessed deeds for George in SC. It is interesting that George's daughter married a Rainey. I am searching for a different Rainey family that also married into a Humphries family. I don't believe the families that I am searching for are related to yours (Raineys or Humphries),but it would be interesting to compare notes. Hope you are still reading these posts.

Charlene

I am looking for the family of Howell Milton Rainey who was born in Georgia in 1912 and moved to California @ 1930. He married Marjorie Stevenson and had a son William Thomas in 1932. Another son, Robert Milton was born on February 23, 1940 and died on April 1, 1983. He appears to have been married to a Beverly Young in 1972. Another marriage was to a Glenna Rainey. If any of this sounds familiar, please leave a message.

I have seen this before, but have no proof that was his first wife's name. Do you have any documentation naming her?
I've hit a roadblock on the Rainey's in finding their parents.

Interesting. I know we had ancestors who were in Putnam County, Georgia, but their surname was JORDAN. A daughter of Benjamin Jordan, Addie Boneta, m. 27 Apr 1868 Dr. Thomas Hull Andrews. Addie was the daughter of Wiley Blount Jordan and Sarah Catherine McKee. Since it appears likely at this point that Dr. T. H. ANDREWS was a genetic RAINEY rather than an Andrews, we're looking hard for connections. I'd love any other information you have on the RAINEYs of Putnam Co., GA.
Thanks for the info. One of the early researchers at Somerset, KY, mistakenly assigned Archibald and Arron to Joseph and Rebekah Raney who were living in Pulaski Co., KY from 1799-1812. If I remember correctly, Joseph moved to Indiana or Illnois.

A James and Lydia Rainey/Raney certainly figure in because some of Aaron's documents name them as his parents.

I still think there is a connection among Joseph, Archibald, and Aaron. Family stories place Archibald in TN as well as several counties in KY. When Arch's son Levi and wife Cassie Ann Barnes Raney left KY for MO ca 1868, their two oldest sons William and Thomas and their families moved to Marion County, Indiana, before coming to Wright Co., MO. I believe they went there because of other relatives in the area.

I guess some things will always be speculation and mystery.

Where does the information of a William Rainey being a sibling of Aaron and Archibald come from? I am descended from Archibald and Jenny Strader Raney/Rainey.
I know the parents of Aaron are James and Lydia Rainey, but I also have a James who married a Lydia listed as a brother to Aaron and Archibald and a sister named Lydia who married Jeptha Hardisty.

I know there was a William Rainey/Raney who married Lucy Graves. They lived in Era, KY, but one of their sons Joseph Porter Raney was born in Somerset, KY. This family eventually moved to northern MO. After the Civil War, J.P. Raney ended up in Mountain Grove, MO and Hartville, MO where Archibald Rainey's sons Levi and Aaron moved.

My gut has also thought William Rainey/Raney was either a brother or a first cousin to Aaron and Archibald, but I've never found proof of a family connection.

I am looking for any information about the Jane and Conrad/Conrod Rainey listed in the Lincoln Co., Mo Census of 1860. They are in the household of Elizabeth Williams. They are both from KY.

I believe she must be Jenny Jane Strader Rainey/Raney, my great, great, great grandmother. If so, she is the wife of Archibald Rainey/Raney. They lived in Logan Co., and Pulaski Co., KY. Two of Arch and Jane's sons settled later in Wright Co., MO. Conrod/Conrad would have been Jane's son.

Elizabeth and Jane would have been daughters of Conrad and Nancy Lawrence Strader of Simpson Co., KY.

RAINEY - GOLDEN, Arkansas, Tennessee and beyond

Seeking any information on the Golden, Rainey family. Alford Franklin Golden was married to Erma Irene Rainey, possibly in Arkansas. They had two children, Jessie Mardeen, who married Luke Walker Sr. Ubelhor, and she died 29 May 2007 in Tennessee, son, Franklin Rudolph, born about 1928, have no information on him.
I believe Jessie's husband, Luke was the son of my Grandmother's sister, and just found this trail. My connection would be with Minnie Gordon, who married Jacob R. Ubelhor, their children are Mary Rosella, Luke and Mark. I can find no information on any of these, except that Jessie and Luke were married. Hope some of this makes sense, and someone can connect with me.
Thank you.

john Rainey in Starr,SC early 1800's

John Rainey is about my third great grand father. He was one of the founders of Ruhamah Methodist church in Starr,SC. We can trace our family history to hiim but no further. There is a family legend of three brothers coming from Ireland but cannot connect that far. One of my cousins did the DNA and did not connect with any of the other Raineys. One story that he heard was that there was a daughter who married and had some children. She and her husband died, and the children were adopted by their mother's family. I was wondering if anyone has come across this story and maybe the link would be found that way. There is a Samuel Rainey that was in this area and a Benjomin Rainey also. IS there any connection between these people I don't know. Oh to confuse things even more His son James Rainey moved to walker county Georgia and had a family there and his oldest son moved back to SC to aid his grandmother when John Rainey had died. Thanks for any help that can be given.

Mary Elizabeth Todd

Hi Melody,
I've been concentrating more on the family genealogy in the last few months and now see where your line and my husband's line crosses.
We are William Warren Rainey's line through his first wife, Francis Jett. She died in 1858 and then he married Caroline Winningham on February 3, 1833. They had Lucy, your ancestor. Caroline died October 8, 1873 and is buried in the Stone Mountain cemetery and there are several small children buried with her. Willie, Eddie, Harry and Lula.
My question to you is: Do you have any proof of who William Warren Rainey's children were by Francis Jett? I need to confirm somehow that William Cicero Rainey was the child most often listed as Leonidas cicero Rainey.
A great website is the Bartow County Georgia web site. It has a lot of information about William Warren Rainey.
Kate Rainey
Re: The Rainey Connection

Do you have any idea if these Rainey's are related to the same name in Putnam Co GA? My acnestors were William M. Roby who was married to Martha Anne Rainey. She is said to have been born 1816 in Ga. and was married in Putnam Co 24 May 1834. Any help would be appreciated. Not sure when she died or where buried.
