Hello,
I'm Mike Rains and very resently I obtained a copy of my gg father civil war penson file. From this file, I confirmed his parents were Zion and Temperence Rains.
I would very much like to learn more about them. From your message of 13 March 2000, it would indicate your might have some information. I would apprecate anything you could share.

Thank you.

I think I might be who you are looking for, although after reading some of the responses I'm not sure. Here's what I have. I beleive Francis Marion (William) Rains is my great grandfather. He was born 2 Jul 1852,in Madison TN and died 29 Nov 1929 somewhere in TN. Married Martha Ann Ruddle(born in 1856) 7 Jan 1873 in Madison TN They had 10 children; Nellie, Emma b. Juo 1876, Alice b Jun 1879, Willie b 10 Jun 1883,Cora Bell b May 1884, Robert S. b Mar 1886, Tebie b Aug 1890, Mary Pearl b May 1893, James R b Jan 1895, and George N b May 1898.

Willie is my grandmother. She married Arthur Holloman and one of their sons Arthur Jr. married my mother Elizabeth Swihart and they had me, Lesley Holloman, now Steiner.

If mine is the correct family I would love to have pics, info, anything you might have. Thanks

Lesley

George, Alexander, Alice Rains

I am looking for information on George Rains and his son Alexander Rains.

George died in Shelby County, Indiana around 1835. He was married to a Mary Ann. After his death, she married John Keith in Shelby County, Ind.

Alexander was born in Virginia (West Virginia)in 1820. He went to Indiana with his parents, maybe through Ohio.

My Great-grandmother Alice Rains Kelly was born in Boggstown on 21 May 1871, daughter of Alexander Rains 1820-1875 and Harriet Kenton Rains 1835-1874. She married George Kelly in 1890 in Marion County, Ind and died in Rushville, Rush County, Ind. 25 October, 1962.

I also located seven siblings of Alice - John T born 1857, George H Rains 1859-1925, Nancy born 1864, Bill born in 1866, Estelle Rains White born 1869, Sevonig born 1870 and Isabelle Almeda born 1873.

Alice's parents died when she was 3 years old. I think Alice went to live with John and Molly Swails. I believe the Swails lived in Acton, Ind. I haven't found any info on the Swails, nor do I know where the other children went to live. John Swails signed her marriage application as her guardian and listed Alice as an orphan.

Any info will really help

Rains from KY to IL

James Rains and Nancy Owens Rains had Jane. Jane m. Elijah Webster in Casey Co. KY abt. 1817. Elijah and Jane Rains Webster were guardians of my 2nd gr-grandfather, George Washiington White. James and Nancy Owens Rains removed to Crawford Co. IL. They had Ambrose Bethea Rains. Many of the Rains and others associated with this line (Minor line of Casey-Mercer Co. KY) moved into Edgar Co. IL. Would like to find info on this line to see where Elijah and Jane Rains Webster went. George Washington White was b. May of 1817 in Casey Co. KY, son of George White (believed to be s/o Joseph White and Sarah Headley of Anson Co. NC. Moved into Pendleton Dis. SC--and d. in Jersey Co. IL. Several of their descendents wind up in Crawford Co. IL.
George Washington White m. Sarah Meloni Turner in 1851 in Crawford Co. IL sarah was step-mother of my gr-grandmother, Isabel White Reynolds. I am seeking to find Isabel's biological mother--and think if I can find where Jane RAINS webster located, I might find first marriage of George Washington White.
Note: Believe James Rains and Nancy Owens Rains divorced--and they remarried.
Thank you,
Shari
