Re: Ramms of Norfolk

Hi Deborah,
My Ramms lived in Hockering two generations before and seem to have left or died out.

I know that your Robert Ramm married Lucy Dawson in 1810 and a witness was John Lacy; he also had a daughter Elizabeth born in 1811. Now John Lacy in 1785 in Hockering married Elizabeth Ram of Matishall.
That suggests that your Robert Ram was somehow related to Elizabeth Ram of Matishall.

A bit of an area looking for investigation here. There are three possibilities:

a) Thomas Ram & Elizabeth Buck of Hockering m 1739 had 3 children all of whom died by 1768 - did they move elsewhere and have more? Thomas Ram is probably my relation.

b) John & Margaret Ram of Swannington had a son Robert christened in 1784 about whom no more is known. Is he your robert? John had a sister Elizabethy born 1748 about whom no more is known - did she marry John Lacy? John Ram is my relation

c) Your Robert Ramm came from another area of Norfolk completely.

Do let me know how you get on. What else do you know about these Hockering Ramms? Why do you think your Robert Ram was born ca 1781?

All the best
Ned

Two of Gertrude's sisters went to California. I believe Gordon had two daughters. Accrding to my records Gordon was born in 1917 and his mother was Ivy [nee Goodship].

Stuart
Hi Ned,
Trawling the net tonight looking at Sharrington, Norfolk where my gran used to live I came across your 'Ancestors & Descendants of Alfred Ramm'. My maternal gran's (who loved in Sharrington) maiden name was Haines. Her grandfather was Isaac Haines who married Bridget Mary Ramm born 4th July 1819 which is where my Ramm connection originates.
I saw that you had Charles Ramm (1764) married to Judith Woodgate on 1st September 1795 at Saxlingham. I also have a Chrles Ramm married to Judith Woodgate but 'my Charles' was born in 1780 and Judith was born in 1783. I know that a couple of years or so often go astray but are these the same people?
I'm sure that your data is more likely to be correct than mine (which has been derived from various sources!) but cna you please let me know the source of your data.
I'm sorry if this sounds like a negative comment......it isn't meant to be and it is more than likely that I have my facts wrong but I would be really interested to hear from you.
Kind regards,
Wendy
PS On the Cromer side I was born there and lived there until I was 11 when we moved to Yorkshire.

In search of information and contacts for Ramm family.
Specific line is: John Grant Ramm married Mary Albertine Bavouzet near Camptonville, Yuba County, California. They had three children: Henrietta Theresa, Florence Sierra and Herman Edward.
I have found some info on Herman, however cannot find much about Henrietta and her daughter Elizabeth A.
At one point, Henrietta lived at 545 Eight st. in San Francisco. The 1930 census states she was not married and so I am thinking that Elizabeth might have gone by Ramm.
Would love to contact relatives of the Ramm family. I know that Henrietta was born 15 Dec 1891 and died 4 Dec 1953.
Elizabeth A. was born sometime around 1923.
They were members of the Holy Rosary Sodality of Star fo the Sea Parish in San Francisco, and also that Henrietta was a teacher in the San Francisco School District.
Monsignor Charles A. Ramm of St. Mary's cathedral in San Francisco was their uncle.

My great great uncle George Bavouzet arrived in the Camptonville, Sierra County, California area around 1853. He had 17 acres in Oak Valley and ran a general store / saloon / hotel from what I can find with online research. George and his wife Pauline Boourgou are buried in the Camptonville cemetery. Both are French born.
His son George F. Bavouzet was listed as a miner and packer. I have not found any marriage or death records for this son.

His daughter Mary Albertine married a person named Ramm. I do not have a first name for her husband. I do see that there was a Ramm ranch in the area....possibly along the Foster Bar road.
Does anyone have any information about the Ramm family? Especially if you have any information related to the man who married Mary Bavouzet.
I will be in California this July for a business trip and was planning on taking some time to drive up to Camptonville environs. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am looking for a Mrs. William Ramm from Germany. This is the only name I have from a obit dated 1944. She was the daughter of John and Bertha Sarau(nee Schultz) Sr. John and Bertha are said to have changed their name either here in US or over in Germany. They left Mrs. William Ramm in Germany when they came to US around 1882. This Mrs. William Ramm was probably in her 60's in 1944. But was not in John Sarau obit in 1949. Any help would be wonderful.

I do know that Anna RAMM, my g-grandmother's parents were John C. and Dora, who moved from Scott County, Iowa to Kane County, IL in the late 1850s. A newspaper article I have from Anna RAMM Haverkampf's 25th wedding anniversary celebration says her brother attended [J.R. Ramm from Chicago]with his two daughters. She had at least two other brothers: Charles b. Jun 1862, and Morris b. 1864. I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

She married a Jessie Earl Weil in 1905 in Cleveland, and they had four daughters and one son. I am still researching them and will be going to Sandusky soon and hope to find out more.

I believe my husband's family is probably related to yours. We are in Rockhampton, Australia. My husband's grandfather was William Ramm, who married Mary Gricks or Grix in about 1886. William's father is listed as Samuel, and he appears to have a sister Anna. William and Mary came to Australia about 1886 - 1890, and settled in the Rockhampton area, on a farm called Ethroupe Farm. Their family included an Annie, Jessie, Madge, and 2 sons, Major Frank, and Ernest Redvers (apparently after some Boer War hero). Ernest was my husband's father.

I do not have access to my records at the moment, but I recollect the name of the place Mary was born was something like Marsham? in Norfolk.

I have also corresponded with a chap who has an ancestor John Ram, who seems to be related, but we can't quite fit the Samuel connection.

Please email me if you have further information, or would like to exchange any of the information I can get hold of.

Kathy

Hi,
Im the descendent of John Ramm (also called steven Ramm) you corresponded with. Until about a year ago I did think I was related to the Rockhampton Ramms however I now know that the relationship is more distant.

I believe the Rockhampton Ramms are descended from Mary Ann Ramm (b 1785 Haverland) daughter of Philip Ramm of Witchingham; I can trace my ancestry back to Thomas Ramm of Witchingham (b. 1753) but am having difficulty linking the two families together.
Kind regards,
Ned

What I know is a bit later down the tree! My grandfather Gordon Ramm was born in Norfolk. His parents worked on the Sandringham Estate. The family was also in Bedfordshire and there were some cousins who went to USA. If this is the same family get in touch. There are a few oldies in the family who mght have some more info if required.
