Lawrence Ramsay - son of Charles W. Ramsay of Gonzales and Harris Co Texas

Trying to find descendants of Lawrence Ramsay son of Charles W. Ramsay who was born in Gonzales TX and lived in Harris Co. - his GF was James W. Ramsay (b. in Gonzales) and G-GF was James Ramsay (b. in Scotland). The dates for Lawrence are thought to be b. 13 Oct 1906 - d. 8 May 1988 taken from Social Security Death Index. I am trying to establish a link between the Gonzales Ramsays and my Ramsay family - hoping that Lawrence's G-GF James from Scotland may be related to my James who also immigrated to Texas from Scotland. Would appreciate your help - thanks Catherine

William and Marion Ramsay - Crookston, New Zealand 1876

William Ramsay married Marion Sinclair in Greenock, Renfrewshire (ie Scotland) in 1874. Their daughter Mary was born 16th November 1874 at Old Monkland, Lanarkshire. Their other children were all born in Crookston, Otago, New Zealand:
Annie (1876), Margaret (1878), Marion (1880) William (1882), Alexander (1885) and Florence (1891). William was a blacksmith at Crookston and later became a farmer, living at a property called Fairview. He was born at Ardclach, Nairnshire in 1846 although his family was strongly associated with Boleskine in Inverness-shire. Marion was born in 1855 in Paisley with her family coming from Ayrshire (possibly Islay).
Their children married: Florence on 5th Oct 1910 to William Pringle at Crookston; Marion (Maria?) on 17th June 1908 to John Fleming also at Crookston; and (possibly) Margaret on 27th April 1898 to Robert Smyth at Kelso (NZ).

Does anyone have any connection with this family? I would like to know what happened to the other children and how did the family get to New Zealand.
Hi Mary,
I am looking for information on John Ramsay, father of Elizabeth Henrietta Ramsay (Married White, then Wallbank)
John apparently born 1762 in Ireland (maybe Scotland), also apperently a first fleet convict on the "Scarborough" in 1788 to Australia. Also apparently married to Elizabeth Moore. He did become a seaman, and became an officer (Captain) in one of the Sydney regiments.
Can anyone help me, regarding whether these are FACTS, and does anyone have a similar John Ramsay in their tree.
Thanks
Carolyn - please feel free to email directly.
cmcphee@live.com.au

I am seeking information about my wife's ancestors, the Ramsays. In particular, I would like to know more about Elizabeth Boyers who married James Ramsay. They had a son named William T. Ramsay born in 1750 in Londonderry, New Hampshire. I have Elizabeth Boyers's father listed as Robert Boyers and her mother as Jeannette Clark. I am trying to identify the Boyers' nationality. I'm pretty sure James Ramsay's family was Irish. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I do not recognize your Ramsey names but if you have a Ramsey/Ramsay male in your line, encourage them to take the DNA test at FamilyTreeDNA.com. I have many Ramsey relatives in Texas and you could be one. If not, the DNA test will put you into the correct family of the Ramsey/Ramsay DNA Project from which you may further your search.
Fred Ramsey
fredramsey@comcast.net
Ramsay/Ramsey of Dundee, Scotland

Seeking info on Ramsay (aka Ramsey) family of Dundee, Scotland. What I know -
Robert Ramsay, wife might be Agnes, had a daughter Mary (aka Sarah) Ramsey b. 1815 in Dundee. She married Isaac Watt (of Aberdeen) in 1836 in Dundee. They moved to England, were there in 1841 during the census, then emigrated to US in 1844. Some of their children were born in Dundee:
- Catherine Watt(s) b. 1837
- Robert Ramsay Watt(s) b. 1838
a few in England:
- Mary Watt(s) b. 1841
- Isaac Watt(s) b. 1843
and a bunch more born in NY, Cincinnati and Iowa.

Robert Ramsey may have been a stone cutter or mason. In addition to Mary (aka Sarah) they may have had a daughter named Jennett who also married a Watt.

Sound familiar to anyone?
Hi.
Thank you so much for your response. Well, PEI is Prince Edward Island (Canada). Ramsay's were shipwrecked off Malpeque Bay on St. John Island, (which PEI was called back then), when their ship the Annabella which I believe was headed for the Carolina's was wrecked off this Island. A John Ramsay family with a number of sons and two nephews then took up residence on the island, many of their decendants still alive today. They spread out and inhabited the Western areas of this small island; that is where my 1850 gggrandfather was located as a farmer. But, we don't know if he came from Scotland to Canada or he was a Loyalist from the US states and came up to Canada. Hutchinson's Directory, Meachem's 1880 Atlas and The Book of Useful Information are all atlas' and or directories in Canada. I see that there are Ramsay or Ramsey families in North Carolina and also in Pennsylvania *(some English, some Irish, some Scotch). I am continuing my search to find the Origins of my specific Ramsay family, there is no record on PEI that my family were "born there", so I am researching other areas of the USA and Canada.
thanks again.
Certainly don't know if this is any help to you. I was online reading Frederick's Directory PEI 1890 and Book of Useful information. They listed GEORGE RAMSAY Farmer in Princetown, PEI 1890-1891. You stated your George died in 1891, could be the same Farmer on PEI. I study the Ramsay families on PEI and hadn't noticed a George before. Might be a lead for you.

Hi ,

I think we may have a connection. I am looking for a connection between a Ramsay and Hanley with a son called Alexander, living in Rhode Island. Alexander may have married Mary Gilmartin?? My father's cousin in Canada stayed in touch with Alexander and his address was in Warwick. Does this ring a bell with you? My great grandmother was Agnes Hanley and so far I have traced an Annie and William Hanley who were also children of Patrick and Mary Hanley from Roscommon.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Helen

Hello Patsy, Just noticed your posting about George Ramsey, I found one buried in Rowan Co., NC 'Thyatira' Presbyterian historic cemetary where some of my line is located too. This George was age 50yrs d.10Dec1784,bc 1734. Don't know if there might be a connection to the one you found as a farmer. I must ask What is the Fredericks Directory? & what is PEI stand for? Thanks for your time. My line is Robert Ramsay b.1716,Scotland-PA-NC,d.1784 buried in Mt.Mourne, Rowan Co.,NC. Are there any connections to your Ramsay's?
