Randolphs in Western Canada

I am trying to find my husband's roots and where exactly the family came from. There really is no family history that we know about. The grandfather, Edward I believe, lived in Edmonton, Alberta in the early 1900s. Gary Randolph (my father in law) passed away a few years ago at 65. He said the family was of Scottish descent. Can anyone send me in the right direction?

Thanks

Betty Randolph

I am looking for information on Hobert Ragnar Randolph born in 1897 in Maine and died 1982 in Sayre, Penna. His 'parents' were Halvar G. and Gertrude (Hjertrude) Randolph both of Sweden, possibly parish Marby in Jamtland, Sweden.

Family included brothers Halvar George, Carl Emanuel, Petter (Perry?), Ida B. and Helen?. There was a thought that Hobert was not one of Halvar and Gertrude's children but actually adopted or taken in?

Any information would be helpful, and if this story is true.

William Randolph Sells lots 1791, VA

In going through the Virginia Gazette and Agricultural Repository which was published at Dumfries (Prince William Co, VA) 16 June 1791 I found the following:

A Lot,
In an eligible situation in Petersburg, on which is a two story house, with all necessary outhouses for the accommodation of a genteel family. Also, one acres on the same street, nearly adjoining that before mentioned. Also, ten acres of good Meadow Ground, joining the above; well reclaimed, and under a good fence, lying between the old and new Towns of Petersburg, which now rents for forty pounds a year. Also, five lots containing an acre each joining to Mess. Freeland and Lenox, and Mr. Archibald Gracie's lots on the east, and AMr. William Douglass's on the north, bounded by two main streets, on the west and fourth sides thereof; Two of whic lots adjoining Mr. Douglass's have springs thereon, that afford a large quantity of water, and will make fine meadow ground. One half of the purchase to be paid in negroes or cash, and a reasonable credit will be allowed for the other half. Negroes will be preferred by the proprietor, who lives at Kennon's on James River, in Charles City coutny.

William Randolph

I'm not sure which William Randolph this is. Anybody have any ideas?

Cindy

Hello, Im Bruce Outlaw and just recently started to search my family history in which the surname Randolph is a part of. My grandmother is named Earlene Randolph (maiden, before marrying Wiley Leason). From what my Grandmother told me, She was from missippi and was the eldest of her siblings. Her father, Mr. Randolph, was a minister. It is said that he had a lot of indian blood running from the tribes Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Chippewa as well as african. Him and his wife passed away leaving my Grandmother to take care of her siblings. She then moved up north to the Chicago area where she had my mother and then where I was born in 1980. I would like to connect to other randolphs out there to possibly get more info.

Thank you very much for reading this

RANDOLPH

Hi Randolph researchers,

I am thoroughly stumped on my Randolph line. I have HENRY RANDOLPH, married to MARY, born abt. 1720 in Virginia. Could this be HENRY IV ? I cannot find his siblings, or parents. Can anyone reading this, look and see if you have this HENRY on your line. I'm sure there were lots of brother's and sister's, but cannot find the connection.

Most of the research was found on Clifton Haggard's Website and lookups from LDS Library. But nothing on HENRY's parents so I can go back further.

Would you please help me. Right now this is "one" of my brick walls, that is driving me nuts.
Deed from Gamaliel Bailey to Louisa Randolph and William Randolph

I believe I descend from Louisa Bailey Randolph. I am trying to find the deed mentioned in the below letter. If anyone has any more information about this family or this deed, or may be related to any of these people please contact me. I know that some of them eventually end up in Monroe Co. KY, where my Bailey line is. I believe Louisa Bailey to be a cousin and her father Gamaliel to be a grt. Uncle.
Thanks in Advance Jeanette Bailey in Mo. jbailey 1 4 8 @ com cast . net
Hon. John C. Daves,
214 Chamber of Commerce,
Baltimore, Md.

Mr. dear Mr. Daves:- In the past two years I have found
some data on one of my ancestors which I feel sure makes
him an eligible ancestor for membership in the Society of
the Cincinnati. Being a member on my Hill ancestry, I am
anxious to qualify one of my cousins and have him become a
member of the North Carolina Society, and write to submit
my findings and to ask you to advise me whether my cousin
is eligible to membership in the North Carolina Society
or not.

In the Department of Archives, Virginia State Library, is
the following record:

“Virginia Continental Army Lands.”
February 15, 1822.

“Roll of Officers of the sixteen Virginia Regiments
of the Continental Army, who received land bounty
in the States of Kentucky and Ohio.”

Among them, under lists of Lieutenants, Ensigns & Coronets,
is
William Randolph, allotted 4,000 acres.

Following the lists is the certificate:

“I certify that the above is a full and correct copy of a
large printed circular, now in this library, entitled,
“Virginia Continental Army Lands” “Dated Feb. 15, 1822.”

Morgan P. Robinson, Archivist.

July 15, 1915,
Virginia State Library.”

As you probably know land warrants were issued under act
of 1779, as follows-
For three years service- Colonel 5,000 acres
- Lt. Col. 4,500 “
- Major 4,000 “
- Captain 3,000 “
- Subalterns 2,000 “
- Non Coms. 200 “
- Privates 100 “

[page two]

Mr. J.C.D. #2

Lt. William Randolph was granted 4,000 acres, which shows
he served over 3 years, and had rank not lower than
Lieutenant. This is states as he is listed among the
Lieutenants, Ensigns and Coronets. Neither of the latter
could be issued the amount issued to Lt. Randolph as shown by the records filed with the report on Lt. Randolph.

Lt. William Randolph was my great great grandfather,
emigrating to Surry County, N.C., where he married my great
great grandmother Louisa Bailey. They emigrated to
Tennessee settling in Roane County, where in 1809 Lt.
Randolph purchased land in this Roane County from his
brother John Randolph. In 1815 Lt. Randolph sold his land
om Roane County and returned to Surry County, N.C. Just
before the sale of said land in Roane County in 1815,
Louisa Bailey Randolph died and is buried in this Roane
County, Tenn. Sarah Randolph, daughter of Lt. Wm. & Louisa
(Bailey) Randolph, married in 1814, Roane County, Tenn.
Samuel Sumpter Owens and were the parents of Martha Susan
Owens who married John Kendrick, who were the parents of
Margaret Amanda Kendrick who married Isaac Alexander Hill
and were the parents of Cap Kendrick Hill. After the death
of Lt. Wm. Randolph’s wife Louisa in 1815, he returned to
Surry County, N.C., where in 1816 he married as his second
wife, Dorothy Poindexter, widow (nee Bailey) sister of his
first wife Louisa. This is proven by deeds to lands in
Surry County, N.C. which show they were Dorothy Bailey
Poindexter’s part of lands she inherited from her father
Gamaliel Bailey, said lands being in “Bailey’s Bottom”.
Deeds in Surry County, N.C. are signed by both William and
Dorothy Randolph. About 1848 the part of Surry County in
which Lt. Wm. & Dorothy Randolph lived was cut off into
Forsyth County, N.C., where Lt. William Randolph lived at
the time of his death about 1848-49.

From the above, I trust you can accept an application for
membership in the N.C. Society of the Cincinnati. I am
anxious for my cousin to join the N.C. Society, first
because I am a member, second Lt. Randolph lived and died
in N.C., and Tennessee, which was formerly a part of N.C.

I will very much appreciate your passing on this matter and
advising me, which I assure you will be very much
appreciated.

With kind regards and best wishes, I am,

Cordially yours,

Cap Kendrick Hill

CKH/K

Lt. Wm. Randolph is in the line accepted by the Colonial
Dames for membership of my mother Mrs. Margaret Amanda
Kendrick Hill, #2303.

==================================================
Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005.
All rights reserved.

Archivist:
Transcription and scan by G.

I have been doing genealogy for over 40 years & have over 5500 names in my Legacy program.
I have entered some key info. onto my website that may prove useful to other researchers.
My family descends from the Col. William Randolph & his wife Mary Isham-often called: "the Adam & Eve" of Virginia because of their many descendants & their importance to colonial America. This line is of 'royal descent'. My ancestor, Mary Randolph, grew up with cousin Tom Jefferson at Tuckahoe Plantation. I have photos of Tuckahoe & also photos of Col. William & Mary Isham etc. that would probably be of interest to other Randolph descendants.
My website:
pixleyblair.tribalpages.com
Email: troypix@webtv.net

There is a land deed 100 acres between James A. Randolph and John Wilson in 1770 on Bear Creek and Wateree that adjoins the John Wilson land in Fairfield S.C. The document has another James R. Randolph on the document also. The witnesses are William Wilson, Randolph Simmons, John A. Johnston with another date 13th day of ? 1789.

There are many family trees which link James R. Randolph to Richard Randolph from Virginia.

Searching for Amelia Randolph who married James Wilson. Could Richard Randolph's son be James A. Randolph or James R. Randolph of SC. What is the earliest court record the Randolph's from Virgina have on Amelia Randolph?

Randolphs in New Orleans

My father, Alton Edward Randolph, was born in New Orleans, LA in 1905, died in 1958. His parents were August A. Randolph and Louise Huerkamp. My father's birth cert. states that both parents were born in Louisiana, too. My understanding is that they were both of German heritage, perhaps 1st or 2nd generation. My father had 2 brothers, Alex and John, and one sister, Irma. This is all I know about my family and would appreciate any info. Thanks.
Julia Randolph Dowling

Randolph - VA to NJ??

Does anyone have any information about the Randolph branch that ended up in New Jersey? I found this snippet in the Hunterdon County Democrat:
"Asa F. Randolph, the eldest of the old Virginia Randolph family, died on Wednesday, aged ninety-two, on property which was granted to his ancestors by the British Government in 1621, at Randolphsville. "

I am descended from an Anna(h) Randolph who married Samuel Huselton, but can't seem to break thru any farther! Any help/guidance is MUCH appreciated!
Ethel Randolph

I was searching this message board and found the names: John and Ethel Meadows. John and Ethel were my husband's grandparents. I have only just started tracing the Meadows family.
John was born 11 Dec 1889 in Gainesboro, Tennessee.
Ethel Randolph was born in Sept of 1895 in Tennessee.
I believe Ethel's parents were Preston Randolph and Susan Ellen Kirby.

John's father was Charles Meadows. John's mother was Eliza Jackson.

Charles and Eliza had three children that I am aware of...Lulu, John and Howard. Howard spent time in prison for 'forging US obligations' aka counterfeiting, and I have copies of all of the records relating to this.

John and Ethel had the following children:

Robert L Meadows
Pauline Meadows
John Meadows
Sylvan C. Meadows
Verlon Meadows
Christine Meadows
Melba Meadows
Freeman Meadows
Harold Meadows

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Willis Randolph was b.1713 in Norfolk Va. he married Mary Fentress in 1746 in Norfolk Va. There is another record in LDS of a me
marriage to a Mary Berry with no date. Both ladies have the same death date of 1785. I think that they must be one of the same or that there is a mistake in one of the death dates.

I am hoping that someone will be able to help me figure this out.

thanks

Gord.
After their Marriage they both moved to Georgia, I have sen that Nancy was born South Carolina in a census record and have seen where also she came from North Carolina
in another Census this was mid 1800's and she would have ben born in a time just after the Reveloution... at that time the Land was known as Carolia there was no defination of North or South Carolina, I do believe that it may have been So Carolina, however because War Grants were given to So. Carolina for Georgia... I would like to hear from anyone on this theory and Especially from ANY Family of James Ransom and Nancy Randolph, my Connection is through Syrena Ransom Crow, Thanks Charlotte

Craig Randolph, Kentucky, Missouri, Colorado. born 1856, died ?

Craig Randolph, born in Kentucky in 1856. Parents: Samuel Randolph and Harriett Ashurst. Moved with family to Macon County. MO. Married a woman named Alice. This information is from the 1880, Randolph County, Montineau Twp, MO census. In 1920 there is a Craig Randolph of the right age, born in Kentucky, with wife Nellie who is 23 years younger than Craig, with children: Mattie, Esther, and Evelyn, living in Pueblo County, CO. According to the 1900 census of Pueblo County, all children listed were born in Missouri except for Kenneth, age 4/12ths. The children are Arthur 1879, Bulah 1887, Lee (son) 1880, what looks like Bomba (son) 1893, and Kenneth. Nellie has three living children indicating the last three, Lee, Bamba and Kenneth are hers. The earlier ones, Arthur and Bulah are children of the first wife. Is this the same Craig Randolph and is Nellie his second wife? I will appreciate any information.

Julie Randolph, wife of M.G. Barbolla

Joe Barbolla and his wife had two sons: 1/Michael Gary Barbolla and 2/Patrick Barbolla, both born in Fort Worth.. Michael worked in and around Fort Worth until a medical retirement made necessary a move to East Texas. Patrick was a practicing attorney in Fort Worth in the 1970's and 80's. Both sons graduated from Bishop Nolan High School. Both sons married.

Michael married Julie Randolph and had two children in 1969-71: "Eileen" and "Christopher". Michael and Julie divorced in 1985-6. Julie continued to live with her two children first in south Fort Worth, then in Dallas, and finally somewhere in the southeastern US. Michael remarried twice and currently lives in East Texas. Contact between both families has been lost.

I would like for Julie to contact us whenever possible at this email address or at kidminder@pullenfamily .com or at my phone number available on the internet. I have information that Julie will want regarding her family.

Richard Pullen/Fort Worth
