Sorry to hear you tried to e-mail me but it was returned. Not sure why. Jeannette's father John Rankin was a brother of Hugh who was my g-grandfather. Hugh's father was also Hugh and was born in Scotland in 1804. His father was Donald, married to Annie McMaster. Donald brought his family to Quebec in 1822. Not sure where they landed, but lived in the Huntingdon-St. Anicet area. All of Donald's children are buried in Quebec except for Hugh who apparently moved west and settled in the Appin-Glencoe, Ontario area where John was born. He moved to Montana in 1869 and his brother Duncan was with him there for awhile. Don't know much more about John except that he married Olive Pickering [born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire] and their children were Jeannette, Wellington, Philena[died at 12], Hattie, Mary, Grace, and Edna. Don't know where any of them wound up other than Jeannette. There is a mention of a brother of John's named Angus who possibly moved to Fairhaven, Wash. Hope this helps tie you in somewhere. If I can help further, let me know.
