Wm J Rankine married to Margaret Cockburn in Eyemouth

I'm researching Rankine ancestors, and I've got a Wm J Rankine married to Margaret Cockburn on 3-Aug-1866 in Eyemouth. The marriage extract lists Margaret's age as 22, daughter of John Cockburn (grocer) and Barbara Hardie, David Cockburn & James Tait as witnesses. Wm J Rankine (baker), age 21, son of James Rankine (baker) and Jessie Eyre. Does anyone know anything about these Rankine's?
I am also searching for African American Rankins. My grandfather was from Paris, Kentucky. His parents were Henry Rankins and Sarah Norton. He had seventeen brothers and sisters. I don't know all of their names. His name was James. There was also Jesse, Frank,Edward and Fannie. Those are the only names I know. He left Kentucky in the early 1900's and moved to Springfield, Ohio with his infant son Edward. His wife died in childbirth.

I also am searching for information on Dosia (Dosea) Rankins and Thomas Riley. I have some info on Dosia as a child within her family. I can send you a copy of the marriage license to Thomas Riley if you still need it. I am not able to find them after the 1910 census but have been told that Dosia died and is buried near Ola, Arkansas. I cannot even find Thomas or the children after that date. Are you connected on the Rankins or the Riley side of the family?

Sandy, I cannot tell you when Steven Rankins married Nancy L. Hooper but can tell you that she is buried in the Hooper Farm cemetery in Logan County, Arkansas, and her tombstone reads "August 13, 1878 - Jan. 1, 1896". I do have a copy of their divorce.

S. C. Rankins, 23, married Charlottey Loveall, 17, on Nov. 16, 1879. The marriage is recorded in Marriage Book B, page 184, at the Logan County Courthouse in Booneville, Arkansas. They were married by W. N. Williams, Justice of the Peace. I also have a copy of their divorce.

Hope this helps. Emma

Sandy, I'll be glad to go out to the cemetery and take a picture of Nancy L. Hooper's grave and also to send you copies of anything I have on her and Steven, however, my computer recently crashed big time and I am currently using the computer at the public library here (which is only three blocks from my home so is not really inconvenient). The Library does not allow you to scan pictures on their computers though, so I will need a snailmail address. I know you probably hate to post that for security reasons. Would you feel comfortable faxing it to the Libary here? The Fax # is 1-479-675-0463. It would be pretty secure to do that I think and then I would have it and could mail you copies of the paperwork. I am in the library every day as I do volunteer work for them by coming in and helping the genealogy researchers who are here from out of State. You decide if you feel secure doing that and let me know. Emma

Tracy, we corresponded a couple of years ago but I seem to have lost contact with you. One day this past week I was looking at some old family photos and I found a small one of Carroll Dean Rankins and his sister, Brenda, as teenagers. I think Brenda is still living in Oklahoma. Carroll Dean may have died in Texas but he was living in Oklahoma the last time I saw him. I have a photo of him and his wife with my dad but dad has been dead about 15 years and I have heard nothing of Carroll Dean since then. Carroll Dean did have four sons and I think they have an a business in Texas...something to do with autos. This is not much to go on but perhaps it will tie in with something else you've learned since we talked last.

I am trying to find William's birth/marriage/death dates and Thomas Jefferson's siblings names etc. I believe I received most of my Terry/Brookshire information from you years ago through the old fashioned "snail" mail.
Hi Emma, thanks so much for responding to my query. I am just a little bit confused by Nancy's birthdate on her headstone. You say she was born in 1878, but she and Steven Rankins had a son in 1876. I found Steven with Charlottey and his son Robert E. Lee Rankins on the 1880 census. The dates just don't add up. Do you have a picture of Nancy's headstone showing those dates? I would love to have a copy of it if you do.

Would you be willing to send me copies of what you have and I in return will send you a copy of his third marriage to Mary Ellen Fulks?

Let me know, ok? You can e-mail me direct to ----
SadiesCharm@aol.com if you would like to correspond that way.

Sandy

Hi Emma, my name is Sandy and I have been in contact with a cousin of yours by the name of Shirley Perez. I am a decendant of Steven C. Rankins born 1856 in GA. I have seen postings about his first marriage to a Nancy L. Hooper, but cannot find a marriage certificate that states that. Can you please help me out on this and tell me where you found that information on Nancy and Steven? I am decended from his third marriage to Mary Ellen Fulks, married 1885 in Clark County, AR.
Also, I am trying to locate any information on Steven and Nancy's son, Robert E. Lee Rankins born in 1876 in either Logan or Scott County, AR.
I would appreciate any information you might have on them.

Thanks,
Sandy
SadiesCharm@aol.com
living in TX

Can someone please tell me if you have any information concerning STEVEN C. RANKINS and his marriage to NANCY L. HOOPER? I would really like to have a copy of that marriage record and as far as I know, they divorced in 1879 before his second marriage to LOTTIE LOVEALLE. I just know there is someone out there that can help me on this. STEVEN is my great grandfather and his third marriage was to MARY ELLEN FULKS in Clark County, AR in 1885. I have a copy of their marriage license. I would like to know when and where these two died and are buried. Nobody seems to know.

Please contact me with any and all information that might help me with my search.
Emma I think I have been in contact with you previously re Dosia and Thomas. They were my maternal grandmother's parents. You are correct that Dosia is buried near Ola and would love to know where. They were the parents of Carrie, Lavina (Aunt Tommy), Roy, and Ada. The family moved to Hot Springs after Dosia's death and Thomas married Lucie Sears. My grandmother Carrie married Dave Kelley, and her sister Tommy married Bill Kelley, Dave's brother. They were the sons of Elijah Kelley. Carrie and Dave had eight children and moved from Hot Springs to Henryetta, Oklahoma in 1927. Roy went on to California and Tommy and Ada moved to Odessa, TX. I was at your library two years ago this September and stopped by but you were gone to I believe Texas?? I had just lost my husband and had to get away and went to Magazine and on over to Booneville where I got a copy of Dosia and Thomas's marriage license. Would love to know something about each of their families but have met a dead end. My grandmother told me that Thomas was a Deputy US Marshal and came in to Indian Territory to pick up prisoners and took them back to Fort Smith. I am unable to document this however. My e-mail address is steelejhhs60@aol.com.

Hi Jess,
I've had the same problem that you'e had, maybe we can help each other.Maybe we are related. My great grandfather's name was Mack Rankins born 1880, maybe in Selma Ala. My great grandmother's name was Katie White born 1884 in maybe Bardstown, Ky. Your surnames are the same Rankins & White. I know that the ages are correct because I was able to get that info off of my Grandfather's certificate whose name was Rudolph Alonzo Rankins. The only other info that I have is that my great grandmother had two btothers named Henry and John Summers and they were stone masons. If you want to contact me at rran558288@aol.com that would be ok. Good Luck

Hi, My name is Bevan Rankins, I live in Perth, the capital city of the state of (Western Australia), I have left previous messages, asking for help on tracing my family in America.
I am trying to trace my family and my great grand-father's relatives, who I believe hail from the USA.
What I know so far is my Great Grandfather is named John Rankins, who I believe resided on the East Coast of the United States, sometime early 1900's and he was of African American descent, who married my Great-Grandmother who I believe, is named Brigitte or Brigit Miles, from Tipperary in Ireland, for various reasons, they left America and migrated to Australia, in the 1920's they had two children, my Grandfather John Arnold Rankins, and Grand - Aunty Elizabeth Rankins.

If anyone has any information, that could help, could you please email me on blackstareagle@hotmail.com.

I have no idea, of where to look in the US to trace my family, so any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

Yours Sincerely

Bevan Rankins
(Perth, Western Australia)
