My grandparents came from Fully nad Saxon in Vallais switzerland . the name Rard goes back to 1600 when one of my great etc grandfathers was found alive as an infant in the mountains in a cabin . the rest of the family was dead from the plague. The family that took him in named him Rard , which in the old Saxon /French meant "The saved One " . It s always been Rard . Where does the nmae Rarden originate from ?

Once when we visited Wales, we were at a beautiful falls which has a gaelic , welsch name so therefore i know i cant spell it without looking it up, but the road by the falls was named RARD which really struck me as i had never seen it anywhere before except when we visited the Valais part of Switz or the few families that are in the US.

No, but the other Rards came thru HAVRE France. That was the port most of the Swiss came from. They went to NY. and then migrated from there. Ihave the manifest from my gr gf Leopolds journey. He left Saxon , Valais, Switzerland and arrived in St. MAurice on December 10,1885. From there the group of 28 went to Le HAvre , France to sail for New York. Dad said all the Swiss in that time span went thru NY>The destination listed after NEw york was Rolla Missouri,, where my ggf and family were headed. He paid the passage for the 28 and they were to repay him in the US but most went on to Colorado, New Mexico and California and never paid him any thing. He chose Rolla as some cousins had come first and said to come as the soil was great for grapes . Well My gr gf and gf who was 16 at the time were all educated at the University in Sion, Valais and about starved and froze trying to farm soil that was all rocks and bramble. carol

You don't have to be sorry. It will be plain to see that I am a bad typist! I am new on computers I have yet to figure out how to find your E-mail address. My MAIN SCREEN NAME IS CJRARD@AOL.COM. I supose that you also know the Ancestry.families.aol.com-Individual Search. I am the first on the list, but I am no longer married to Jackie, nor is my address the same that is shown. If you send E-mail then I can return your call. I can see your listed address on the Individual search, If it is the same. I'll have to call my Dad to see, but I do not know if he is the one who called you. I am 37 years old, but sence 1997, due to medical condition, I have had to start all over in my living way. I am going to college to learn a trade. (criminology) I look at Switzerland, Saxon, Valais and others on my computer, but that is all that I will be able to do. Something that MANY people know, is that it is not easy being disabled. That does not stop my wish to know about my past. I will, as I have said, would dearly like to know all or anything that I can. I used to be a A/C Tech, but now due to Epilepsy, I am disabled. My health is not well, and going down hill. I have, for years wanted to know my past history. Today my sister and I spent 4 hours at KINKOS copying papers and we have more to do , Found letters Agnes Rard wrote to my dad in the 70s. I think there is about 4. We are planning on a cousine reunion on either October 8th or 15th if any of you are interested in coming. LAst time we had people from Switzerland and the cousins from Michigan etc. I dont think we will have any from Europe but its still fun. my email is caroldon@htc.net Send me your addressa and I will mail alot of papers this week to you.I dont know if they will help but Ill try and find a photo of Joseph Leopold who was the first cousin to August.
