My father's name was Jesse Leroy Rasor Jr. He was the only child of Jesse Leroy Rasor Sr and Nora S. Harrison. My grandfather was born in Ohio 08/09/1890 and died in Turlock, CA 10/09/59. My father is also deceased, 07/28/23-04/01/66. I, too, do not know much about my Rasor family. I was born and raised in Manteca, CA and have been in Eagle, ID for 7 1/2 years.

Rasor/Razor/Soundex Variations Surname Y-DNA Project

Are you interested in participating in an exciting new Y-DNA Project that could help identify and/or verify your ancestral line, as well as, help determine the connections between the various Rasor/Razor, etc. ancestral lines in this broad surname group?

If you are a male descendant whose surname is Rasor/Razor, Raisor, Rasure, Reeser, Reese, Racer or one of the many other spelling and/or Soundex variations, you can join this Y-DNA Project by taking a simple "cheek-swab" DNA test!

The Y-chromosome is only passed from male to male (e.g. father to son, etc.), so if you are a female descendant who is interested in this Y-DNA Project, you will need to ask a male relative in this surname group (e.g., your father, brother, paternal male cousin, etc.) to take the Y-DNA test as a representative of your Rasor/Razor, etc. line.

If you want to take part in this Project or want more information, please feel free to contact one of us directly at:

rasorresearcher@comcast.net (Mary)
or
rraisorsr@aol.com (Ray)

Alfred Rasor - Ohio to Idaho

While helping a friend with a project of putting together information on pre-1911 burials in Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, Canyon Co., Idaho, we have found a burial for an Albert Rasor born 26 February, 1847 and died 22 October, 1890, here in Idaho. In trying to do a little research to add some notes about him, my quick research shows that he is possibly the son of Abraham and Rachel Rasor (?), and was born in Ohio. The 1870 shows he is married to a Mary ?, and living next to his parents. In the 1880 census they are shown in Nebraska with two children. I have attached the headstone photo. I am not related but trying to possibly help other researchers and to confirm that I have the right Alfred Rasor.
Thanks

There may be a link with our families. My 4thGgrandfather John Razor, b. abt 1751 in Bayern, Ger, and his family with my 3rdGgranfather Andrew , b abt 1781 came to PA about 1790, per the census there, then went to Mercer Co, Ky. I have not found this speeling on any ships yet so the RAIZER or RAYSOR could be it. We should talk more and look carefully at the possible linke. pls email me crrasor@comcat.net Thanks Rick in Grand Prairie, Tx
Patty,
Not so much a snag but just the way the name was spelled depending on which branch you are related too!
I read it use to be "Rasorspike" dropping the "spike" on the way from Germany. Then the is the COURSEY or DeCoursey that supposidly are original rasor's.
If you stayed north then the name was RASOR if you went south it changed to Raisor, Razor, Reasor. etc.
Happy Hunting.
Searching:
Rasor/Crabtree

I don't know of another email address as I've not been in touch with the family for a number of years. However, the last phone number I have for John Rasor is: 818-761-8344. Maybe that will still work. Good luck.

Hello Jackie

Glad to see you thought well to publish your find. I don't have my notes with me today but. The Maiden name for Marcelle was Rasor, her father Charles Maxwell Rasor was from around Brookville Ohio area. Her brother was Charles Edgar Rasor. Charles M. Rasor collected Rasor information around the 1930's and now I collect Rasor things and send most to Brookville Ohio Historical Soc. They have a web page. If the items need a new home E-mail me and we can see they get a good home and cover your cost too.

If you would Email me where you got them and if you need anything else I would like to help.

Thanks

Steve Rasor

Hi,

I got the documents at a junk store that sells estate stuff in Tacoma Washington. I was purchasing a dozen old cabinet cards with photos inside and was talking to the sales lady about how depressing photos with no names were (especially prestine ones) and asked if I could trade out the pictures in the cards for (lesser quality ones) in the box, that had names (but no mat) and she got all mushy and said if I was going to do that I should go (to a different box I had not seen) and she would give me these religious documents (and one large picture that was with them. We have no idea if the documents and the picture goes together).

Contact me off list for more details.

Jackie Whedbee

The ones I have traced origenated in Irland and was Schoonmacher. Peater Reesor's birth father died and his mother remared and out of respect he took his stepfathers name. He and one of his brothers moved from Irland to Canada there is where I lost his brother Peter moved to the states. I beleve the Jacob that most family trees refer to is his son but is not James Harvy Raisors father I jave Abreham wich is Jacob's brother. I do think that Peter met Margeret on bord the ship though.

Hi Doug,

I,m your 2nd cousin Jim Weaver. Your grandparents, Bess and Art Rasor, were my aunt and uncle. I knew your parents, Cletus and Phyllis. I spoke with Jane on the phone Friday night. Can't wait to get aquainted. Best wishes. You guys have relatives that would like to see you. You also have cousins in Texas and in the Dallas area.

Jim Weaver
