The Ratajski family - under grandfather Leonard and grandmother Antonina nee Duchynska (Duchenska and other various spellings) found in Poland.

Here is the two sites which will aid your understanding of RATAI family who go back to middle of 1700's. The area which grandfather Leonard mentioned is near Sycow Poland.

ref's:

http://www.gross-wartenberg-sycow.pl/
is a picture tour of area.

http://www.gross-wartenberg.de/phpgedview/index.php?ctype=ge...
Is the actual family tree under RATAI because of the confusion of different family roots in area - not ours.

On each name is a way to look at progress (click media).
Remember this is an active site where I add new details supported by dates. The Duchynski line is accurate for Sygmund and his wife. The father of Sigmund and Henry have accurate death dates. I do not know Sigmunds birth date or some siblings. Documents are king when some estimates are not supported.

It will be continued and details added as I gain support searches and more travels to Poland including more pictures.

Ratajski can be found in europe as the above names.
I established RATAI as the base name. Through many years of research (without local help of Teena Hintz to europe) it was accomplished.

Give credit for Teena Hintz becuse of her dedication to one of many of her local tree/s of her family.

Gross Wartenberg/now Sycow, Poland became just that after WWII. lands east of Poland became just that. While lands way east of Poland was given to Russia.

This site I give to you is for future generations who often wonder where our family came from.

http://www.gross-wartenberg.de/phpgedview/index.php?ctype=ge...
http://www.gross-wartenberg.de/phpgedview/famlist.php?alpha=...
http://www.gross-wartenberg.de/phpgedview/famlist.php?surnam...

Also you should be able to find those names of married (though born in europe too) individuals. I do not plan to ever post my immediate family to websites. Please note that under MEDIA tab you will find all pictures I was able to get from family including Teena Hintz. Though we hope someday she will SHARE pictures and send to my cousin direct cousin.

Also there is a website that is called gross wartenbwerg.
It has MANY pictures of now Sycow Poland area.

Dan Ratajski
proud great grandson -
to Rosalia nee Dydynska and Johann Ratajski

And spoke to his nephew several times.

I have collected a lot of information of your family.
My grandfather's name was Steve Ratajski he had a brother Joseph and a sister Pauline. I believe he had another brother but I don't know what his name was as we always called him a Polish name. Phonetically it would be "geega". They all lived in or around Toledo, Ohio. I do have one uncle still living and his name is Louis Ratajski (about 88 years old). My only remaining aunt, Frances, is about to celebrate her 100th birthday on September 29. When I attend her party, I intend to try to learn the names of my grandfather's parent's names as it occurred to me that I don't know them and also any other information. I will share more information with you if you would like.

I believe Eva was a widow with a young daughter named Veronica or Verna. Veronica's year of birth was around 1912 so Felix and Eva would have been married after this time if my information is correct. Any information regarding Felix and Eva would be very helpful.

Hi Ed, your grandfather, Andrias Ratajski is local to Philli because he is listed as a laborer (home) at 2642 E Dauphin and his son Stanley. Listed respectfully as 1900 yr.Gopsill's and later as 1921 yr.Boyd's Philli, Penn. General Business Directory...What I am interested in is if Leonard Frank Ratajski who came over in April 30, 1890 is related to your GF. Leonard is my GF. Arrived in Balti. on that date. from Bremen, Germany. Much later to Detroit and buried there. Question for you is my GF (related) who was born March 1872 in Berlin, Germany. Where was your GF born. And if we are relatives??? Having an incorrect citizenship paper is no matter. I was wondering who Stanley and Andrew were.
Hi Lukas, got to hear you still looking. I asked Leo to respond to you question. Problem is Leo may not be able to respond. I have directly e-mailed him at his private e-mail site. I do not want to share it. It will become apparent to all once he responds. if you noticed the authors name (if you click on it) shows the e-mail address from where the author's name resides. Now we can wait for Leo? If you have noticed Teena Hintz and I work this site looking for a Leonard Frank Ratajski. A little history. He is my grandfather. He came over to USA to Baltimore, Maryland on June 30, 1890. The ship was the Main #1. Now he is supposed (what we heard) to have been born in Berlin, Germany in March 31, 1872. So here we are looking back in Germany. Teena heard that he may have been born in Krakow, Poland. But the difference is Krakow - which one. Mine guess he was German born in Krakow which is 60-80 km northwest of Berlin. That is what I want to search out. And in you have been reading the other postings, we have atown in southwest Poland, read the other information I have posted about its location. Our family (all) go back to the earlier 1600's in Austria. Look up "Familysearch" from the Later Day Saints, if your interested.
Now back to your qwest: I'll search USA social security information (you can access this too). It is about who registers the death benefits in USA. I will check it out and report back to you postings. I hope Leo responds too! Also see if you can get an American spelling of the individual - in American the names are modified. My grandfather nay even have a different spelling in Germany!

Greeting to all Ratajski's
Daniel Ratajski, grandson to Leonard Frank Ratajski

Hi Lukas, I checked US Social Security Benefits and phone numbers for Waclaw Ratajski, in and around Chicago, Ill. Nothing to be found so far. He could have moved out of the area. We as Ratajski's are listed in many cities in the US. I have not heard back from Leo, so I don't know if he has read his private e-mail site. Maybe Teena, my second cousin's niece can find out something. I'll still think of ways to search for Waclaw. See if you can dig deeper.

Daniel Ratajski, Grandson of Leonard Frank Ratajski

I didn't answer your question. The oldest daughter of Leonard and Antonina Ratajski, Anna Ratajski, married Frank Popielarski. I do not know if there is a connection between the Detroit Ratajski/Popielarski family and the Zelehoskis, but my parents had close friends in NJ who were Zelehoskis. And apparently, one of the NJ Zelehoskis has a Popielarski connection. That's all I know.
Teena

Hi Dan,

I just saw the note you left for Leo about Wanda and the Ohio accident. It's the weirdest thing that I got a photo album from Barb and there are photos taken of a grave in Ohio in it. There are also photos of members of the Duchynski family. And over the Net, I 'met' someone related to that branch! They went by the name of Miller. It was quite a shock to find these folks in a photo album and link them to family I had no idea about.

Leo Bocwinski is researching Ratajskis also. So far, I have not found a link with our branch but you never know!

Teena hintzt@hotmail.com

Re: Marian Ratajski

Well, I must say that I've posted wrong information in my last post. The name was not Marian (Marian is my current living grandfather in Germany, not so far away from me).

I asked my grandparents again, and they told me the following:

The name of my grandfather's brother is Waclaw (a common polish name). Waclaw Ratajski.

He is born in 1919. At the beginning of the 70's he moved from Poland to Chicago. After a short period of communication my grandparents haven't heard anything from him. We assume that he died (born in 1919 - today he would be 83 years old).

About Leo: that sounds very interesting to me, especially that he lives in Chicago and _could_ probably have access to an archive or something similar?

Well, I have to thank you all. Thank you for everything. Should I manage to find even the smallest piece of information, I would break a 30 year lasting silence, since my grandparents don't know anything about his (Waclaw's) fate after 1971/72.

Hi Lukas or part of Marian - who is maybe sister to your grandfather?
Welcome to a site being worked to connect the Ratajski's. I'm looking for grandfather's German roots (I think) while Tina (thinks Poland) no matter at present. We want to find out all the good information too! I have listed MUCH German information including Ratajski homesite "Wolka Ratajski" in Poland. We migrated from Slovak area back in 1600's.
Your request: I have been in contact with Leo bocwin. See other posting on Ratajski site, below these postings. Leo is connected thru and living in Chicago. He has done much research on his own. I'll e-mail him to lhave him look at this new request, by you. He is of a different "thread" of Ratajski's. Two family groups, that we know of. There are surely more. I'll ask Leo to respond to your request, on this Ratajski Surname board. We have lots to discover about OUR mutual roots. We need to connect. And greetings to all the other Ratajski's. Lukas, we'll work with you. Keep the faith.
Daniel Ratajski, grandson to Leonard Frank Ratajsk, who came to America in 1890 thru Bremen, Germany.
Hello

First of all, I'm glad to find so much Ratajski's in here. I couldn't ever imagine that our surname branch could be so big. I'm 21 years old and currently live in Germany. I was born in Slupsk/Poland. Now, my question:

My grandmother (Dorota Ratajski) told me about Marian Ratajski, a family member of my grandfather. She told me that he lived in Chicago afer World War II. Then, he disappeared and they lost all contact to him. I'm pretty sure that he died, but how and when? It is just a question that bothers my grandparents since decades. Now I decided to find out and go as far as possible to get even a little piece of information.

I ask you, because I noticed that some of you are involved in deep research and possibly could find any information. I would be very happy if I could get a response. Thank you!

...and greetings to all Ratajski's out there!

Location of gravesite infor found WW1 n WW2 German Ratajski's

To all Ratajski's it was not told to me by my immediate family that Ratajski's fought WW1 and WW2 in Europe as German Military. Being a U.S. Vet. (in the late 1960's it was a shock to find we fought both sides). Our uncles and other far relations fought both wars. Charles Ratajski in WW2 was a pilot almost became and ACE in the Pacific theatre. I guess when you find out we are listed in 45 cities in Germany, today that is not a thing to be misunderstood. There is listed thru www.volksbund.de if you are good with German and can surf thru the requirements, can find German Ratajski's listed that lost their lives and are buried outside Germany. I have found there are 11 Ratajski's buried in France, Belgien (their spelling), Italy and others. Until I can search further, in Germany archives, there will be many more buried in Germany. I still believe my Grandfather (we were told born in Berlin and somehow Krakow Poland could be Germany instead) is Germany Polish. It is 80 miles northwest of Berlin in Mecklenburg, on the road near to Gustrow. Granddad was listed as a butcher and Krakow Germany is noted for their fine sausage. keeping up the hunt for Leonard Frank Ratajski.

All in all, the other information, www.pilot.pl try to search for the map area of Wolka Ratajska in woj.Lubelskie and District Janowski. Ratajski site is Gima 4E4 location - Gmina of Godziszow. The gmina (District) is the smallest unit which may have official records. Poland has placed much "good" information - and thanks to site person. This should help all family tree members of the Ratajski family! The Family member ( I am Grandson to Leonard Frank Ratajski who came over on Main I on June 30th, 1890. There is picture of the ship in a book of whic I can pass the information along, if you are interested. Another Main (call it II) brought over Tina's mother.
Ratajski Homesite in Poland - "Wolka Ratajska"

Greetings to all - I have been visiting and e-mailing the site keeper of "Wolka Ratajski". The site for the entire creation by PolandGenWeb lists us Ratajski's in Woj. Lubelskie approximately in the southeast most part of Poland. In other information the L.Day Saints list Ratajski's as coming from Czechoslovakia back as far as 1660's.
Now, http://www.rootsweb.com/~pollubel/index.htm is the start of the location. Search thru it to find the town map and other information. It is very good to see we Ratajski's very active, in Europe and USA. Also e-mail the site keeper, ask for pictures to be taken as I have asked and your comments! Our Homesite is in the District Janowski, Borough Godziszow. Wishing you all the best and our great country USA!

In my search of one branch of the Ratajski surname I came across a copy of an obituary for a Stanislaw Ratajski, died at the age of 43 in December of 1927 in Chicago, Il. He left his wife Wladyslawa nee Rakowska, a daughter Ewelina, a brother Piotr (Peter), a sister Barbara Piotrowska, and a mother in law Marcjanna (Marcia) Rakowska. His funeral services were at St. Hyacinth Church and the burial took place in the St. Wojciecha Cemetery.
Hi Danny,
The obituary for this particular Stanislaw Ratajski reads as follows "after a long and ponderous illness". If this was a result of an automobile accident I have no idea.

In regard to the Ratajski family, I believe that I am looking for an entirely differant branch than you are. I say this because I cannot find any referance to a Leonard Ratajski in all of my researching.
My Greatgreatgrandfather was Franciszek Ratajski, my Greatgrandfather was Walenty Ratajski and my paternal grandmother was Agnes Ratajski. My grandmother Agnes had 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Agnes, Pearl, Antoinette, Antoni and Stanley were born in Germany/Poland. Theresa, John, Michael and Joseph, the youngest born in 1896, were born in the Wilkes Barre area of Pennsylvania.
Franciszek's wife was named Mary Barabunc and Walenty's wife was named Jozepha Jankowski.

I wish you success in your search for your family roots and if by chance I come across information that I feel my be of some interest to you I will forward it to you.
Cheers,
Leo

Between Teena who is just swell, you'll maybe get more detail!

And "Germans to American vol # 52 lists a family with a wife and 4 children coming over on ship. 19 April 1886.

I still believe that my Grandfather came over from Krakow, germany since he stated to the family he was Prussian and born in Berlin. Krakow is northwest form Berlin by 30 miles or so. Teena believes Krakow Poland so far!

If you reply let us know where your family is from. My dad said he had a favorite uncle who was a "tinsmith" in Penn!

Good hunting!!!!
Just interested if he died in an auto acc ident?

Hi Leo, I'm Dan Ratajski, my dad's younger sister died in an auto accident in 1927 - December. He stated to me she died in an auto accident in Cleveland, Ohio.

He had not given me truthful information before so I think he did the same about his sister Wanda's death situation!

I don't know why people (including) my dad do that.

I'll e-mail you at your site, but want you to reply here. Since we are tracking all information about this Ratajski family.

Example - he stated to me and whomever, that my grandfather and grandmother (his side) married in Warsaw, Poland. We found out they married in Pa. USA. in 1892. Go figure. There must be some humor in all this of which I can't see it. By the way my mother went along with this lie.

Wait for your reply.

Thanks.

Daniel Ratajski

I've been trying to trace the Ratajski family tree for quite some time. Our great-grandparents were Valenty and Josephine Ratajski. They had 7 children, Stanley, John, Joseph, Theresa, Antoinette, Pearl and Agnes. They came from German Poland. E-mail me if this rings a bell for anyone. Other family names that came out of this family are Pucilowski, Bocwinski, Chulada, Perednas to name a few.

Leonard Ratajski

In viewing the original passenger list that Leonard Ratajksi came to Baltimore MD on, there is no new information that isn't published in the Germans to America book. However, 'occupation' is not filled in. It is 'dittoed' fromt he line above. At that time, there was no column to indicate the town where the immigrant was coming from. On other matters, have been getting some response from my mailing at Thanksgiving. Will send updates to interested parties.

Ohio whereabouts of Leonard F. Ratajski

Daniel, checked the 1900 US Census for Ohio --just the index-- and was unable to find the Ratajski family. They could have been in the process of moving or were one of the families that got missed by the census takers. If we knew what city to look in, we might be able to find them. Still waiting for the ships passenger list from the FHC. Happy a nice holiday! Teena
