I, Stephen Ratliff of Pike County and State of Kentucky being of sound mind and disposing memory but weak of body and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death do make this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made –


ITEM 1st: After my just debts and funeral expenses be paid I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susanna Ratliff all, and being in farming land on Cowpen Creek & Ginny’s Fork up said Creek to the Broomstraw Fork to be enjoyed by her during her natural life-


I also give and bequeath to her all my stock of every kind and all my house hold furniture and kitchen furniture and farming utensils to her proper use and behoove during her natural life. Except such I herein after bequeath.


ITEM 2nd: I will and bequeath to my son William Ratliff all the residuals of my land on Cowpen Creek from the conditional land which I have designated for his Mother up said Cowpen Creek to the upper end of my land to him and his heirs forever.


ITEM 3rd: I give to my beloved daughters Rebeka, Lusana (sp), Ansia, Lydia, Lucinday to each of them one bed and furniture as they are, or come of age.


ITEM 4th: I give and bequeath to my son John Ratliff one bay mare five years old and called his at this time to be enjoyed by him as his property, nevertheless, subject to the advice of his guardian. I also give and bequeath to him all my land at the death of my beloved wife which I have given her a life estate unto him and his heirs forever, after the death of his mother.


ITEM 6th (should actually be 5th): I give my daughters Mary and Margahret to each of them one dollar.


ITEM 7th(should actually be 6th): and lastly, I do constitute and appoint my beloved wife Executrix of this my last will and testament and it is my desire that She administrate without giving any security and that there be no appraisement of the property nor any sale of the property. I also appoint my beloved wife guardian of all my infant children. In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and Seal this 17th day of June 1844.
