Oh dear,

You have been wonderful in providing information, and thank yu, but I was seeking a MaryAnn who eludes me. My Mary Ann Ralston, from Jefferson County or Overton County, Tennessee, married Jesse Coons and moved to Indiana and Iowa. I cannot find their marriage or MaryAnn's parents. Only that they were wealthy enough to provide her with music lesson, for Jess was the teacher and they ran away together.

I was hoping I had found her, but no. I am sorry, I have nothing more on Matthew and his line.
Thank you for your help,
A

Mary Ann married W. R. Hensley 10 Nov 1858 in Monroe County, Tenn. (See Tennessee State Marriages 1780 to 2002.) She obviously married late in life, being age 60. Her sister, Susanna also married late in life, being 62. She married James Bogle 1 Aug 1852 in Blount Co., Tenn.

Elizabeth (called Betsy in her Grandfather Matthew's will) married Lewis Reno Vance 12 Feb 1815. (Info. from Vance Family Bible which I have photocopied.)

I am still seeking informtion on Martha (nicknamed Patty in Matthew's will.) I don't have anything about a marriage. Do you?
There is also a Matthew attributed to this family, but I can't find any substantiation.

In 1917, he lived in Alexandria, Virginia and was married to Jessie Marie Raulston. They had two children, Madeleine A. and Vivian E.

I know Jessie remarried later and I don't know if this is because Byron died or they divorced.

If anyone has information on Byron A.
Harry Knox Raulston ---Hamilton or Marion County Area, Tennessee

We are looking for parents of Harry Knox Raulston. He was born 4/3/1930 and died 11/3/1958. He was married to a woman named Daisy - maiden name unknown. Daisy had about 10+ children - 2 by Harry, about 4 by unknown men, then remarried and had about 6 more children. At least the first 6 children were given up for adoption. The first two children were named Ramona, b. about 1954 and Robert Knox Raulston, born 10/5/1955. Ramona was adopted by a Lindsey family. Robert (Bobby/Bob) is my cousin and is looking for his birth family. Harry Knox Raulston, the father, did not give up the children and supposedly committed suicide in Duval County, Florida after the adoptions went through. He is buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. Harry had a brother who came to Florida to take the body of Harry back to Tennessee to bury him, but his name is unknown. Would like any information on Harry's family, any of the children, and/or their mother Daisy. Harry & Daisy lived in Gainesville, Hall Co, Georgia when the children were given up - Harry was out of town working and knew nothing of what was going on. The COILEDBASKETS address is no longer good - have no idea how to change it. Please contact Judy at WindyWindy1919@yahoo.com.
Here is the best story yet. William M. had a prized saddle horse stolen from the front pasture. William tracked this horse a distance of some thirty miles into Bowie County where he found it in a barn lot. William inquired of the lady of the house as to the whereabouts of her husband without revealing the nature of his business. Upon being informed that the Master of the house would return at sundown, William camped in a nearby grove of trees to await further developments. When the Master or the house returned, William stated his business and was invited to spend the night. The host was also interested in catching the horse thief because he had traded a good horse for the stolen property. After dinner conversation turned to olden time, points of origin, etc. During this conversation William discovered that he had just shared dinner with his younger sister, whom he had not seen since she was a young girl back in Tennessee. Their family name was Cotton. Some of the Cotton family later settled in Red River County, Texas.

If George W. moved to Red River County, Texas, with William M. in 1850 that would explain why he was not included in the 1850 TN Census. Have to evidence of that, just a guess. Would fit the record of George W. death in Red River County, Texas, in 1859.

Regarding the parent of Fannie Ousley? Here is the story I have on her and her parents.
Fannie S. Ousley born 1822 Tennessee, Married William M. Raulston in Tennessee 1840, moved to Red River County, Texas, 1850, died 1886, buried in New Haven Cemetery. Her parents were both born in Virginia. An ancestor, Thomas Ousley, was a very early settler in Virginia. Thomas served in the House of Burgess and was later sheriff. A creek at the foot of the Bull Run Mountains in northern Virginia still bears the Ousley name.
I hope that helps you research Fannie.
What a surprise! Thought I'd NEVER find anybody working this family. I can't believe it! Hey, let's put our heads together and see if we can move this line off high center. It's way past time. Talk about sketchy info? I've been scratching for any little piece of information and there hasn't been much where I've been looking. Maybe you have some better sources? Email me directly jinglewind@hotmail.com and let's compare notes. Daniel and Amanda would be my 2gg parents.

Hello,

When I found my biological father some years back, he mentioned to me that his mother's name was Charlotte Rawlston. I have found nothing for Rawlston here, but it occurred to me he could have gotten the spelling wrong.

I do know this--she married a George Newstead sometime in the late 1930's, was a full-blooded Apache, and was born in upstate New York or Connecticut. She died of cancer around 1965.

Any help anyone here can give me will be appreciated.

Rachel

The Search for 'Adam'...

......so to speak.

Well, here is what I know about the Roll Stones.

In the beginning, on the roster of old Scottish Clans, in 1147, the Raulstons are mentioned with those who rose our of Ayrshire (Scottland). The are called 'The Raulstons of Ilk' and were the descendants of the 'MacDuff Thanes' or 'Earls of Fife', one of whom had a son,
Ralph, who obtained a grant of lands in Renfrewshire (Scottsland). Legend (no proof)) has it that Ralph called his lands after himself - Ralph's Towne 0 and that his sones continuing on the same estate, wrote themselves as 'de Ralphs-towne', which by softened pronunciation became 'Raulstone'.

The 'Roulstone, Raulston, Ralston', originially Scotch Presbyterians, fled from Scotland during the persecution of members of their faith and settled in the north of
Ireland.

That is where the tale gets vague...
The next story I hear is in America...

To America they brought yet another tale of the significance of their name. They said it was acquired in battle when their clan, whose original name was 'Love', rolled stones down a steep Scottish hill on their enemies and from that time they bore the name 'Rolle-stone' (no proof), later modified to Raulstone.

Ralph was a younger son of one of the 'Earls of Fife'. Paisley. Renfrewshire, Scottsland.
He optained the land grant from the 'High Steward' (no date). After that it is all very... complicated.

Try searching for the mom instead. I'm also seeking a link to my ggggGrandPap.
Think I found his cousin, but... still trying to figure out how to download others
family trees. I have a very reliable tree. Researched by distant cousin and verified by me many
relatives.
My records go back to 1819. Before that I'm missing someone to connect.

Here are my thoughts.... there are so many TWINS in this fam-damnily that perhaps we are looking for John A(mos) and John A(ndrew).
Anything is possible.

Here is a book I have that was researched and published by Clarence M. Raulston, Jr.: Raulstons: A Family History, The Raulstons of Red River County (TX)

In his first chapter he refers to the Scottish Clans (1147, would that be cool). He seems to come to the same wall as most of us:
Which John is the father of our upline??? If they were twins it would not matter much. Here is a quote of his first entry about John:

"After the family estates in Scotland were sold the family moved to Londondery, Ireland. John Roulstone, b. Scotland 1653, came to America prior to 1676.
(there is a tree for this fella at this site, I just haven't figured out how to download it).
He (John Roulstone) served in King Phillips War under Captain Wadsworth and died in Boston in 1717.
One son (no reference to the name of that son, most likely the fella we are seeking) moved via Pennsylvania to Augusta County, Virginia, about 1710.

"Before moving to America, John and his father, John Sr., were in the business of hauling cargo and passengers (most likely slaves) between Plymouth, England, and the Boston Colony."

Makes me wish these fellas didn't have so many kids (but, then where would I be?).

I'm getting a great kick out of all of this. Seems we are ALL related in one way or another.
