Mary Alice Raver from Decatur, Indiana was my father's sister.Their parents were Abraham Raver and Effie Carpenter. The family called her Alice instead of Mary. My dad was Raymond. If you are Aunt Alice's granddaughter just ask your family about Uncle Ray.
If we are talking about the same Mary Alice I would love to share more family history.I even have a photo album of grandma Effie's - so I have pictures I can share.

Please contact me concerning George Raber/Raver born in 1822.He was my great grandfather and I can not find any record of his parents. I belive Christina born in 1821 was his sister - she moved to Adams County Indiana from Ohio about the same time.
I suspect they are children of Cordon and Elizabeth Raber/Reber. If not children than close relatives because George and Elizabeth (now Creitzer) cross paths a lot. Also according to the 1830 census Elizabeth had children George and Christina's ages.

My dad was one of Abraham's sons.He referred to Christian as uncle Christ(Pronounced Crist). Some of the family history you have is in complete because of bad records. My father was Abraham and Effie's youngest son - his name was Raymond. The doctor put Melvin on birth certificate.I have some old family photos I could mail or fax if you are interested.

Re: George W Raver

Since posting this I've learned that George W Raver was the son of Michael and Elizabeth Raver. He also had an older brother (name unknown), and an older sister Leah, who married John C Leibig. The 1820 census shows Michael Raver and his family living in Freeburg, Washington Twp., Union County, but by 1830 they were established in Catawissa Twp., Columbia County. Does anyone have any records of where Michael Raver might have originated from?

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

Re: Solomon Raver

Hi Lee,

I've been researching Elizabeth Raver born about 1816 in PA, married in Huron County OH in 1838 and lived in Seneca County Ohio. I'm guessing that she might a daughter of Jacob Raver and Susanna Beisel. Other Raver wedding records in Huron County Ohio are Peter Raver and Abby Raver, both in 1834. I think that Jacob Raver was in Columbia Co., PA in the 1820 census, so perhaps these families are all related. I'll send you an email with more details.

best,
Gail

Thanks that looks like the Raver brothers and sisters married the Bowers brothers and sisters. I'll bet if you look them up in the census they live next door to each other. That's not a question just a thought. They seemed to have married whoever was convenient back then. Nancy

Solomon Raver

Solomon was born about 1804 and first shows in the 1830 and 1840 censuses for Mifflin Twp., Columbia County, PA. In 1850, he's living a few miles away in Nescopeck, Luzerne County. It appears he died between 1850 and 1860 because his widow Susan was married to Samuel Miller and living in Seneca County OH in 1860. Two teen-age Raver sons were with her: William and Nathan. Does anyone know anything about this family - especially Solomon's parents?

Prior to about 1820 english record makers used several variations of the Raver spelling. The most common variation is REBER - used extensively in York and Centre Counties.

Almost anything goes. I have see REVER, RIEVER, RIEBER, RABER, RAEBER, RIEBER.

He married Angelina Bird and had seven children, all born in Catawissa Twp, Columbia County. The children are Joseph, Charles W, Westley E, Sylvanous, Mary M, Elizabeth M, and Carrie. George W died December 10, 1889. I have no further information and would like to find out his parents, etc. If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it.

I've been researching a Frederick Reber who was born in Windsor Twp., PA, ca. 1756. The 1790 census locates him in Schuylkill County PA with a wife Sybilla and eight kids. Two more daughters were born during the early 1790s. Then they disappear from the Schuylkill County records. I think he shows in the 1800 census for Bedford County PA as Frederick Reaver, but then he vanishes again. Maybe that's him in the 1820 census for Violet Twp., Fairfield County, OH, as Frederick Raver. Can anyone help?

I recently ran across a picture inherited from my mother. It shows Ida Mae Raver Boring born 1878 on the back written in broken English it says,Uncle Charles Aunt Jerey or Jersy/Aunt Ida or Lide or Lida and father(Elza) and myself. Does anyone know who Uncle and Aunts are? I'm assuming they are related to Elza. Could be that one of the women is married to Charles . Elza also had a son named Charles. It is not him in the picture. This picture was probably taken in the 1920s The first woman has dark hair in a bun and is wearing a black long sleeved dress. The next lady is gray haired and wearing a bun and a long sleeved dress. The man is gray haired and wearing a white longsleeved shirt,a vest and a pocket watch with a long chain. He has a mustache. Then there is Ida Mae and next is a gray(white) haired man with a mustache wearing a long sleeved white shirt. All the people are thin and short. I know they are short because Ida was only 4' 6" and all are only a few inches taller than her.The men are half a head taller. If you have the same picture or know who these people are let me know.
