Wonderful, we need all the help we can get. I hope that someday you will be able to meet Anne and her husband. He works at Nasa. Anne is not practicing Law anymore since the birth of her children and her recovery from Breast Cancer. She has decided to stay home and raise her children and research the family.
I live about 3 miles from the 640 acers of land that was granted to Santiago Rabia. I go over there from time to time and just walk across parts of it. They built and new lake right in the center of the land.
Amanda Alamon is such a mystery, and an anigma to all of us who are searching for her. At one time my grandmother thought she was her mothers mother but then the dates of Mary Florences birth did not match and the census proved otherwise. Mary Florence talked about her brother William Riley and her sisters, and her father, Joseph Rabia/Ravia but my grandmother and my mother can never remember her saying anything about her mother. Strange, but Mom said the older folks would shew the children out of the room when they spoke in low tones about anything that would have explained many of the mysteries we have today about the family. Anne sent Joyce and I copies of some letters that were very informative a little over a year ago. We found out in those letters when Santiago's wife Rebecca died and was buried and that he shd been married to Mr. Theo Wald , her third husband and possibly her 4th we are not sure about that. Theo Wald married Aunt Emm, Rebecca and Santiago's daughter after Rebecca died. My mother new Aunt Emm and Mr. Wald, when she was a girl.Their house burned down and that is why the Alamo has her fathers papers. She gave them to her next door neighbor and he gave them to the Alamo.
Lura. If you want to email me directly you are welcome to. lhyatt2@aol.com
Thanks Alice, for the vote of confidence. My Great Grandmother acually started my research before I was born by telling my grandmother a few things about the Spaniard who came from Spain and then became a Texas Ranger. My grandmother was Mary Florence's daughter and one of 14 children. Of course Mary Florence's father was Joseph Ravia who was the son of Santiago Rabia from Spain. Back in the 60's and 70's the research was slow because of the fact that we did not have computers and had to rely on letter writing. But when I got my first computer in 92 things started to open up. Around 2000 I found Anne, Peter Celestine Rabia's ancester. Peter and Joe were brothers. We have been researching together since then. Anne is an attorney and is a real good researcher. Last year we found Joyce and she is real good too so now there are three of us from the same family searching together.
Tishamengo has been researched by all of us very completly and when we started in Tishamingo they had alot of the basic info comfused. My mother went up there and tried to get the basic info to them but I am sure they still have some wrong. There is one place that we are still trying to get to to find the prayer book that belonged to Santiago Rabia from Spain. He wrote notes in the prayer book and we would love to see that. It is in a museum up in the panhandle. I can't remember the name of it off hand, but Anne has that info on the tip of her tounge. I will ask her and then post it. Maybe someone lives up in that area and go by and look at it.
Lura Hyatt
lhyatt2@aol.com

I got most of my info from her and another cuzin Joyce...I have been researching Amanda for a short time thanks to my new family members and she is a tuff one....I am going to try to do some research in Tishamingo soon to see what I can find. These two ladies have spent much time on our family and if you want history and would like to pitch in and research they are the ones to talk to.

Hi, My name is Lura Hyatt and I am the great great granddaughter of Joseph Rabia/Ravia and Adeline Parrish. Grandpa Joe and Adeline had children by the names of Emily, Amanda, Mary Florence and William Riley. census reports prove that these children lived in their house hold while growing up and my g, grandmother Mary Florence remembered all of them in her house growing up before her death in 1945.
Adeline divorced Joe and he married Molly Moore in 1880. They had no children. She divorced him and he married Lottie Green. A white woman who had at least two children, maybe more. I can't recall their names but I have them written down in my files. Grandpa died in 1916 from Pneumonia after having taken care of Lottie's children through a Small Pox episode. He was immuned. My cousin Anne and I have been reasearching for a very long time and have so many documents to prove all of our findings. In fact we have corresponded with Catherine, William Riley's daughter up until her death last year. We found out a lot from her. Mary Ida is the daughter of Joe and Amanda Almond. We know she and he were married by the rights of the Cherokee tribe but we can't find any records of her. We think she might have been married before she married Joe. If there is something you would like to know please let me know and I will try to help.
Lura Hyatt
lyatt2@aol.com

Hello Lura,

I'm just trying to find out info on my background. I see you mentioned Molly Moore. I believe she was married to Joseph Ravia, had a son named william Riley. I hope we are talking about the same people.I am trying to find out who Joseph married in Oklahoma on an Indian reservation. I'm also trying to find out information on a lady by the name of Ida Ravia who is supposed to be joseph's daughter. Someone said Ida could have changed her name from Ravia to Harkins,to Shelton to Speaks.I would love any info you have on the Ravia's.
Thank you,
Stormy Macdonald, OKC

Joyce has been doing the same resarch at the library many times. I think that all has been gone through there. It won't do you any good to check with Christina Kennedy, she seems to be a little illiterate and has gotten most of her info from me. She has been confused about a lot of info. for years and I can't seem to make her understand the connections. However if you want to try, have at it. Tommy Wood is hard headed and still insist that Molly Moore is Mary Frances's mother even though I have sent him absolute proof possitive that it was Adeline. Joyce is your best bet. She works very hard on the research. Let me know if I can help.
Lura

I am going to try to locate the historian of the news papers on US Gen and see if she could check out the new papers to find out about the dedication you spoke about...I may even take a trip to do research at the library in Ravia.

Alice

i really need to get in touch with lura hyatt, my great grandmother (ehtyl hawkins speaks) was the daughter to amanda almon or molly moore one. we need records that lura has to prove our kinship to the ravias and hopefully a roll number, if amanda left him the land and she was cherokee and she was the mother to my g granny then we can get our roll number that weve been searching for for 15 yrs. we just cant prove that link cause of circumstances that have happened over the past 100 years. i also heard that jospeh gave the land to the town, thats a story ive heard since i was a kid, im 31 now. and that he had a 100 year lease on it and that theres a contract somewhere but i heard it burned in the courthouse in ravia in late 1800s or early 1900s. anyone who knows lura or can give me info , id appreciate it and ill share all i have w you.

thanks keith smith
atoka oklahoma.

ps, whats the deal again with the mayor in ravia, is he trying gain wealth or something or this, if so someone needs to do something about it, cause thats not right, he has no right and if i prove it and the lease does exist thats theres a 100 yr lease on the town, then we need to get rid of him and take back our town. heheheh jk

Norm, do you have any further information regarding the family Ravia or de Ravia. If it were Spanish, it should have another name in front as Spanish names normally do not begin with de?

I am the ggg grandaughter of Santiago and Rebecca Ravia. I found a peice of information that you may be interested in. It is a 1854 school census from Nacogdoches, Texas. As you may or may not know Santiago had been murdered the year before by Rebecca's brother. The family had been upset ever since Santiago took Rebecca out of her fathers house in the middle of the night and eloped with her. The final solution was the murder of Santiago in 1853. The next year Rebecca married James Wyrick in Nacogdoches, 1854. All of Rebecca and Santiago's children are listed separately from James Wyricks children, who went to the same school, 23rd District. The Wyrick children listed are, Sarah, Jefferson, Jacob, Mary L. After James and Rebecca moved to Old Choctaw, located east of Sherman Texas, where Charlotta, Rebecca's mother died. There James and Rebecca had a son of their own. I do not know how many children they had together, I am still researching, but the information I do have can be suported by documentation. I hope you can find what you are looking fore. If you happen to come accross anything I can use , please pass it along. Thanks Lura Hyatt

Yes, I do have alot of his records translated. That is where I found out about Lucinda's birth. Afterwards I found the baptism certificate. I have so much information about our family, you will be so surprised. Santiago came to Mexico in 1814 after the death of his parents. His father was Francisco Ravia but when he came to Mexico it was pronounced Rabia so that is the way it was spelled untill after Santiago's murder in 1853. When Rebecca took her children to Old Choctaw community she did change the spelling of the name back to the original Ravia. I am decended from Joe Ravia, Santiago and Rebecca's son. I have been researching our decendents with Anne Goodwin a g g g granddaughter of Peter Celestin Rabia, Santiago's son. We have found so many relatives since this search began it is absolutly amazing. I have pictures I would like to share with you. Do you have pictures also? Let me know. Lura

Did you know that he married Lucinda's younger sister after her death. I have Lucinda's baptism certificate.
Dear Mary,
I am so sorry I haven't replied but I did know that my cousin Anne replied to you. I have been in an insane asylume here for several weeks with so many people around, I haven't even been able to get to my commputer.
Well I can tell you that I am the great great great granddaughter of Santiago and Rebecca Rabia, and the Great great grandaughter of Joe Ravia, and the great granddaughter of Mary Floraence Ravia Mc Millan, who was the half sister to Mary Ida Ravia Speaks Shelton.I didn't know until recently that she married Speaks first and then Shelton later.
I also didn't know until recently that Grandpa Joe had married Amanda Almon first and had one child by her, Ida, I had always thought Ida was born later. But anywayThis is the way it went.
Amanda was his first wife with Mary Ida their only child. Then Amanda Died and he married Adeline Parrish in 1864 and we do have a wedding certificate for this. Born to this union was Amannda, Emily, William Riley, and in 1872 Mary Florence.
Some time around 1874-1976 Adeline divorced Grandpa Joe and in 1880 He married Mary Moore (Hawkins-married name), but she was called Molly Moore. Wedding certificate for this to. She divored him and Joe married a woman named Lottie Green. Wedding certificate for this to. She had two children by a previous marriage. a boy, but I can't call his name at the moment and a girl named Lilly. He was still married to her when in 1816 they had an epedemic of small pox around the area and since he was amuned to it he took care of the children. He was so exhausted, he came down with Pnuemonia and died.
I really don't know alot about Aunt Ida but I do know that Amanda Almon was Cherakee and of course you know that grandpa Joe was Spanish and Irish.
Let me know what you want to know and I will try to send what you want. Anne and I both have just about anything you will want to know but we first have to know what you want.So let us know
Lura
Regarding Elizabeth m: to Anselm Ravia or Ravier

Somehow in my papers I found this:

Alexander Le Doux b: 1792 was married to Suzanne Cormier in St. Martinville.
Then I have an Alexander Le Doux m: Ezimily West b: 1825 d: 1850.
Children: Martha m: Isaac Vincent
Mary Ann m: William Lyons
Sarah b: Dec. 10, 1842 d: 1850
ELizabeth m: Anselm Ravia
Ezimily West father is listed once as an Indian, another time as a mulatto. I think he belong to the red bones like so many people from that region.
Are we talking about the same family? My husband GGG was Alexander Le Doux of Calcasieu. Alexander had brothers: Joseph, Belezaire, etc.

Looking for Catharina Ravia, married Georgius Adamus Justus. I am told by a friend in Sweden who translated the death record of Christopher Justus, son of Catharina & Georgius, that Ravia is a name from the Netherlands. Christopher was born around 1677 based on information from his death record. Catharina could possibly be the daughter of a man named Christian Ravius. Parents of Catharina has not been documented.

Has anyone done early research on the Ravia family. I have just started.

Dear Nelda, Anselm Ravia & Elizabeth LeDoux were my Great Grandparents. According to the ship passenger list, Anselm came to the United States from Bordeaux, France in 1856 to the Port of New Orleans. Two other passengers aboard were named Ravia too, Honore' & Louise' age 29, M & F, I'm assuming that was his brother & sister-in-law. The name was spelled Ravier, and if you look at old census records, you will see how it was changed to the current spelling, they spelled it like it sounded. Anselm married Urannie Vincent(Francois Vincent's daughter) and they had several children. When she died, he married Elizabeth LeDoux and had 4 more children, Dorise, Arise, David, & Sarah. Sarah was my Grandmother. We are related. I live in Carlyss. I have no idea where he or Elizabeth are buried. I know that Sarah is supposed to be buried in Farquhar Cemetery, but I have never been able to locate her grave. If you have any info that would help me in my search I would appreciate it. Thanks

Virginia Katherine (Kate) Warrick/Wyrick

I have been searching for several years for information on my great grandmother, Virginia Katherine (Kate) Warrick/Wyrick Crisp. All I knew was she was born in the Waco TX area, ca 1851-1857 (census dates) and her father may have been named Albert, Bud, or Butch, b. TN, mother unknow b. MO? .

Recent info from Anne Goodwin, indicates perhaps her father was James Warick (1850 Cherokee Co. TX census) that married Rebecca Ravia. 1870 census Grayson Co. shows Rebecca with a Verginia in her household, in close proximity to my Crisp family,

I have a photo my aunt told me was of my great grandfather's sister, Molly Ravisee. This recent info seems to indicate it may be Kate's half/step sister? We had searched but could not find the Ravisee name, but did find Joseph Ravia in the area of Indian Territory where the family moved about 1895. I have Molly's photo online at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4231/maryc.gif She is a very attractive lady, looks to be Indian or Spanish.

If anyone recognizes her, or sees a family resemblence, please contact me at bandony@yahoo.com

Thanks for any help.........Ethel Taylor

I tried to reach Lura Hyatt by email, but it returned to me. Ms. Hyatt, could you email me at bandony@yahoo.com ? I have a photo identified as "Molly Ravisee" by my aunt, who said she was a sister to my ggrandfather Ezekiel Crisp. I believe now, that she may be related to my great grandmother instead. I also have a picture of my greatgrandmother Kate Warrick. Perhaps "Ravisee" is a variation on Ravia?
