Aloha,
All her life, everyone close to Armine called her Um or Ummi. Not sure why or what it means, but all her siblings had names other than their real ones.
Yes Armine was born in 1892 in Honolulu, HI and died in Fresno, CA alone in a hotel room in Dec. 1943. She was on a book tour at the time.
The dates I have Armine and Mamo being friends are 1937 through 1939. I don't know if they knew each other on Maui. There fathers probable knew each other, but maybe not the girls. Armine lived upcountry and Mamo lived in Kihei on the south end of Maui. Other than when they drove cattle down to Makena to ship to Honolulu, Armine would not have been in So. Maui.
I am sure they were friends after 1939, but have no documentation of that.
Bev.

From what I have found, Armine was found dead in her hotel room Dec. 3, 1943. Obituary said she was 44. I don't believe if that is accurate as I read somewhere she was born 1892 which would make her 52. Coroner said she died of a heart attack. Let me know if you know of any nickname she went by or any known association she had with Mamo. I am going to sort through the letters of that period and see what I can find. I will let you know.
Hello Bev. Yes, James Rawley Sr. passed away about 14-15 years ago. The Northridge address is likely that of Jr. Tell me when Armine passed away and where, and I might be able to provide you with more info from that by comparing what I have. I am considering a possibility that Mamo may have referred to her by a different name or nickname. P.R.

If Armine was close to Mamo I would would bet that Mamo would have kept any correspondence sent by her and if so, those letters would be in my collection. I probably have every letter Mamo received in the 1930's and early 40's but of course you say I don't. Ever see a letter written to Mamo for sale on ebay? If you ever did it would be from my collection. Also, I refer to Jr. as being the Rawley son out of respect to keep vultures from invading his privacy. According to Sr's diary, the Rawley son was not usually called or referred to by family and friends by the name you think you know it is.

I feel the same way about that. Half the info provided in Mamo Clarks Biography came from me. I pulled the photo out this morning so I can give you an accurate description. The photo is Mamo on the left, A man in his 30's in the center and a young woman arm in arm with the man in her late 20's. The woman is wearing a diamond solitare on her wedding finger. The man has no wedding ring so I would imagine they are fiancees. I have so many photos of Mamo almost all have her with a flower in her hair but in this photo, Mamo and the other lady have taken the flowers out of their hair. Mamo is holding her flower at the mans chest level looking down at it and the other lady has set her flower on the mans lower front shoulder and looking down on it. Since they are looking down I cannot tell if the lady even has light colored eyes. She has short but full dark hair. Very pretty lady. I would date the photo as being 1938-1940 as Mamo does not look a day over 30. The lady looks very similar to the lady she acted with in Hawaii Calls. PR

A flower in her hair, yes. The photo is sepia toned so I cannot not say her eyes are blue. Mamo saved all the scripts to the films she acted in and I have all of them except for the 1935 Mutiny on the Bounty script which I sold about a month ago. I also have all the film cells she saved. Provide me an email address and I will send you photos. PR

It is dissapointing you would assume I don't know the name of James and Mamo Clarks son. I have a locket of his hair that Mamo put inside a WWII Military Identification card. I have James Rawleys complete record collection that was used to give morale to the U.S. troops in occupied Japan. I have Mamo's Kimono. I have Jr's childhood books and numerous letters written to Mamo by many people in the 1930's. Like over 200 of them. I have Mamo's geneaolgy records going back to the 15th century. Besides James Jr., nobody in the world knows more about the Rawley family than I do. Except Thier Sun is not and never has been for sale on ebay. There were not very many copies made. I have the James Rawley copy with the name embossed in gold on the front cover. It does not say Jr. or Sr. so it could have been either. If you have the book like you say and know so much about it, tell me who Lahilahi was? Who was Joseph and May? What year and what date did Mamo sail to the US from Hawaii? What was the name of the ship? I recently updated Mamos Biography with this info on Wikipedia. You want info on the Rawley family you might want to start with an apology and beg for forgiveness.
I am looking for information on Harriet Rawley b. 17 Aug 1873-d. 08 Jul 1957. The place of birth is Iowa, but that has not been confirmed. She married Henry Duerden in Gillman(now known as Isaquah), Washington 14 Oct 1890. After Henry's death she married John Hall 10 Apr 1914 in Portland, Oregon. There is a picture of John and Harriet standing outside of a home and on the back it says "Port Angeles home." We think she is buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Seattle, Washington. Does anyone know who her parents/siblings were?

Cathleen

If the birthdates and birthplace of R G's children below are correct I don't think "my" Louisa [Crabb] born 1841 GA was R G's first wife as she was still unmarried and in Georgia with her parents Burton Crabb and Rachel [Jones] as of January 1862.......
email KathyeUpham@houston.rr.com

========================================================
Information recvd from researcher CMWARD
I don't have a clue if this Robert G Rawley, son of Daniel Rawley is the same RG Rawley that Louisa Married.

1. Robert G RAWLEY (DANIEL I2, JAMES E SR1)1 was born Abt. 1822 in Tennessee, and died Bef. 1900 in Houston, Harris Co. TX. He married NANCY R. She was born Mar 1846 in Georgia, and died Aft. 1900 in Houston,Ward 5 Harris Co, TX.

Children of Rorbert RAWLEY and Nancy R [unk] are:

i. Mary Ann RAWLEY, b.

The Louisa J. [CRABB[ (born 1841 GA) shown below is my GGG-aunt and the youngest sister of Rachel [CRABB] who married Isaac C. WEATHERLY 14 Feb 1839 in Henry Co GA.
Isaac and aunt Rachel died in Hunt Co, TX and are buried in the Lone Oak Cemetery there.

A Crabb-Weatherly cousin sent this vague reference to the marriage shown below but could not remember where she got it or anything more about it.

I have searched the censuses and the message boards but cannot come up with anything about R.G. and my last record of aunt Louisa is when she and her parents were dismissed from their church 26 Jan 1862 in Polk Co GA just before they went to Texas - I'm assuming aunt Louisa went to TX since she and her parents were dismissed on the same date.
In 1870 my Crabb's that went to TX were in Wood and Hunt counties.

I don't even know if this marriage reference is legitimate..... does anyone know anything about this man?

"R.G. RAWLEY who married Louisa J. CRABB (Crabb and Weatherly family are kin)"

My heartfelt thanks for any information,
Kathye
His grandmother was a Rawley, Agnes 1900 daughter to George 1875 son to William Joseph Rawley 1835 and grandson to Daniel George D.1843. The family originates on Wolfe Island, Frontenac County near Kingston, Ontario.

Looking to provide this information on or to connect with any family of John M. (Jack) Rawley b 1873 in Wisconsin probably Oshkosh. In Milwaukee Wisconsin Jack married Nora O’Connell b 1878 in Emly, Co. Tipperary Ireland. They had one daughter Johanna b 1914 who later went by the name Joan. Joan married Oliver Keyes.

I believe that Jack was the son of James and Sarah Rawley both b New Brunswick Canada. Per descendants of Jack Rawley he had a brother Walter in Oshkosh and three sisters: Margaret who married Carl Jones (children Willard and Bernice) of Green Bay, Brown Co. Wisconsin, Elizabeth unmarried who lived with Walter in Oshkosh and another sister whose name is not remembered.

The 1870 census for the City of Oshkosh, Ward 4, Winnebago Co, Wisconsin, USA lists: James Rawley 29, Sarah Rawley 23 and Mary Rawley 1. The 1880 census for Oshkosh, Winnebago, Wisconsin, USA lists James Rawley 39, Sarah Rawley 32, Mary Rawley 11, John Rawley 7, Elisabeth Rawley 5 and Ellen Rawley 1. I have posted two trees at Ancestry.com that include this family. The two trees are titled "James & Sarah Rawley Family Tree" and "Michael Francis O'Connell (Emly, Co Tipperary, Ireland to Milwaukee) Family Tree". Michael O’Connell was the brother of Nora O’Connell Rawley.
Hello,I read your info and hope you have what I have been searching for. I am searching for siblings (if any) of Elizabeth Rawley (maiden name). Her mother;Laura Henderson and father Albert Rawley. Reason; my mother married Albert Rawley after Laura. She told me that Albert and Laura had a female child. She also thought that Laura had jumped off of a bridge, and did not know what had happened to the daughter. I have been searching for years for the daughter Elizabeth, siblings, or any other information that would put me in touch.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Yes, you're right, Mamo's son is a jr. Her husband was my drama teacher in high school and I met their son a few times when he spoke to the drama classes about poetry and lterature. I also met Mamo a few times when she came to play rehersals on the weekends.

That was during the 1960s when I was a teenager - long before I had any idea that I would one day move to Honolulu. I went to high school in the San Fernando Valley.

Jeanne

I have photo of James Rawley taken when he was very young in the military at the time he met Mamo Clark in the early 1940's. Also have hair clipping of James Jr. in a 1944 WWII identification card. Let me know if you would like me to send copy to you. Warm Regards, Phil

Hello Coconut Queen. I pretty much know where to find the Rawley son you are looking for. Can you email me some copies of your newspaper articles so I can forward them? I have the Geneology records of the Clark family going back to the 16th century. Yes, Mamo did know Armine Von Tempsky. I have a photo of him and her together that he signed and gave to her in the 1930's.

looking for more Crawford, Coblr, Bargahiser & Rawley info...

Hi, I am researching info on Jackson H Crawford family in Ohio. I have a photo of Laura (Bargahiser) Crawford/Price at:
http://charocfl.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=charocfl...

Note that after Jackson Henry Crawford was shot on duty as Chief of Police of Findlay she remarried to a Mr. Albert Price in Ohio. I would appreciate any info on Mr. Price's line to add to my family database.

Also note that Laura Bargahiser surname was also spelled as:
Barga
Bargaheiser
Bargahizer
Berkheiser

Laura’s portents from PA were George Washington (G W Bargahiser) & Fanny (Fannie) Coble.
Also note that the Coble surname was also spelled as Koble.

I am trying to verify the date that J. H. Crawford was shot while performing his duties at work. I believe it to be Apr 09 1923 & my mom said he was actually shot at work or at his office.

I would like to know if there is any place or person to contact to get a copy of the obit for Jack H. Crawford who was the Police chief of the Findley Ohio at the time of his death.

To see a photo of J h Crawford taken in 1904 when he was a policeman go to this link:
http://charocfl.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=charocfl...

The caption said the photo was taken in front of the Municipal building. Also in the photo are (from L-R): Harry Stark clerk in the water works office; Russell Morrison, police court clerk; John Kramer, chief of police; (NOTE: J H Crawford is listed as Jack Crawford, policeman; Will Heck, city auditor and Clark Edie, city clerk. The children are listed as unknown but my grand father Verl B. Crawford would have been about 12 years at the time of the photo & I know Aunt Myrtle (Myrt) Crawford was a few years younger & was short when she died. Note Myrtle or Myrt Crawford married a Mr. Binder & moved to Toledo OH where she became a chiropractor.

I am also currently trying to also find data on J H Crawford’s ancestors who originated in Ireland, possibly Tipperary & settled in around the Warren County Pennsylvania area, ref.:
http://charocfl.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=charocfl...
&
http://charocfl.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=charocfl...

The only data that I can verify at this time is that William and Catherine (Duggan) Crawford they were married March 27, 1829 also in Tipperary on Mar 27 1829. I have found several different links with this same data. But I have not been able to confirm the data that Ann Johnson posted indicating that Patrick Henry Crawford for Tipperary, Ireland was baptism in 1842 in Tipperary, Ireland and married to Margaret Downs she was also born in Ireland. Note that Jackson Henry Crawford was born on May 27 1865 in PA, USA but that is all the PA data I have on him.

Patrick H. Crawford & Margaret Downs 9 children were:
Helen
M F & which I believe to possibly be Mike F or Michael F.
George
Mary
Tom or possibly Thomas
Sarah
James
Alice
Margaret

Appreciate any assistance with any or all research listed above.

Thanks:
Char O.
David Rawley b. abt 1867. 8th Hussars

Looking for any info on a David Rawley who married Anne Holland nee Short in Nov 1905. At this time they were residing in Dukes Lane, Kensington. He was a Sergeant Major 8th Hussars.
His wife had been living Aldershot on 1901 census & was a widow, her first husband having been in ASC. I'm guessing thats where they met.
Only info I have is his military position at time of marriage & that his deceased father, named John, had been of 'independant means'.
Anne & David had a daughter in 1907 Ruby Constance Rawley, born Chorlton.
Any help please.
