Hi Debbie,
An excellect source for much of the early RAY family of Vigo Co., IN is in "The History of the Ray Family in Scotland, Ireland and America", first put out in 1941 by Wayne C. RAY and then later updated by his daughter Helen Throckmorton in 1963. It is difficult to find this document.

Wm. RAY (b.1819) 2nd wife Elizabeth FERREL is d/o James A. FERREL (b. 4 Apr 1795 KY) and Martha DICKERSON (b. 8 Sep 1798 OH). James A. FERREL is son of James FERREL (Sr) and his 1st wife, Hannah KINNISON. After Hannahs death, James (Sr) remarried 29 July 1800 Hamilton Co., OH to Rosa "Anna" RAY. Rosa is a daughter of William RAY (b. 1740) and Ann BROWN.

Wm. RAY (b. 1819) 1st wife, Phebe Ann SPARKS, is bur: Harkness Cem., Vigo Co., IN near William RAY (b. 1740).

I am following all the RAY descendants of William RAY and Ann BROWN. William was born near Belfast, IRELAND and came to America in 1772 living with WAYNE family in Chester Co., PA. Wm. joined the Rev. War in 1775 and was under the command of Gen. Anthony Wayne. William RAY and Anthony were good friends. William became a Lt. in the war and was allowed a Revolutionary War pension.
Some time near the end of the war or soon after he married Ann BROWN and then settled in Jefferson Co., Kentucky.

They had 11 children. Moving to Butler Co., Ohio in 1810 and Vigo Co., Indiana in 1818. They homesteaded 80 acres of land (section 19) in Riley Township, Vigo Co., IN and built a log home on this land.

My line is Wm. RAY's son, James Brown RAY (b. 19 Feb 1794 Jefferson Co., KY - d. 4 Aug 1848 near Cincinnati, OH) and his first wife, Mary RIDDLE (b. 10 Sep 1797 OH). James set up and practiced law in Brookville, IN. James B. RAY later became governor of Indiana living in Indianapolis. He never lived in Vigo Co., IN.

James B. RAY had two children with his first wife. My line is his oldest child, Mary Ann RAY (b ca. 1822 IN). She married George G. HOLMAN on 12 Oct 1838 and they lived in Indianapolis. It has been difficult finding much information on Mary Ann RAY. They had a daughter, Elizabeth HOLMAN (b. 18 June 1844 IN) who is my line and I have photos of her.
Elizabeth is my g-grandmother.

I would be interest in what data you have on Jay RAY and his descendants. I have some data on Jay's brothers and sisters. I will email you my Working-papers on the RAY families. It will give much more details on your line and also many sources I have found.
