Its been quite a while since you posted your info on Ambrose Ream. I haven't found out much since. Although, there was an Ambrose in Lawrence Co. his father was either Marcus Reeme or Samuel B Reeme. Have you found anymore info on this family? My line is from Cecilia A Reeme, sibling to John M Reeme. I believe that my Ambrose, Marcus, and Samuel may have been related, brothers maybe? But I can't verify it. Thanks! Pat

John William Reams (1819-1902) obituary

Clearfield Republican - May 2, 1902
Passed Over the River
Rev. John REAMS, of Brady Township, died at his home near Luthersburg Monday, April 28, 1902, aged 82 years, 7 months and 12 days.
Rev. REAMS was born in Brush Valley, Centre County, September 17, 1819. In 1836 he came with his parents, Henry and Jane REAMS, to Brady Township, and has resided in Clearfield County ever since.
On September 17, 1846, the anniversary of his birth, he was joined in wedlock to Catharine Maria ARNOLD, a daughter of the late Peter ARNOLD of Brady Township. His wife died on November 27, 1888.
Rev. REAMS connected himself with the Lutheran church of Luthersburg, of which his wife was a member, soon after they were married, but in later years they both joined the Evangelical Church of Troutville, of which denomination he became a minister. He served as minister for six or more years, in the meantime having sold his farm. Later they lived at Rockton, until he bought the farm where he last resided. He remained a local minister of the Evangelical faith and was faithful to the cause of Christ and all good works to the end.
He is survived by two brothers, William of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and David of DuBois. His sisters living are Sarah A. ROSS of Cleveland, Ohio, and Elizabeth of Tifflin, Ohio.
He is survived by three sons, Q.S. of Big Run, Pa.; Manasseh A. of Salina, Kansas, and J. Homer who lives on the homestead; and six daughters, Lorena, wife of Brady S. KIRK, of Burr Oaks, Kansas; Emma, music teacher, at home; Susannah of DuBois; Leila, at home; Maggie, wife of Jonce KIRK, and Florence; wife of Lewis KIRK, both of Luthersburg, Pa.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Luthersburg and burial made in the Union Cemetery

William Reames b. 1807 or Aaron Reames b. 1798 -- Father of Melissa Reames Stephenson b. 1827 or Matilda Reames Stephenson

I also posted this on the Reames board and the Cass Co., MI board:

I'd love some help with this: I've been trying to figure out which Reames (Aaron b. 1798 or William b. 1807) is the father of Melissa Reames Stephenson b. 1827 (married John L. Stephenson in 1846), or Matilda Reames Stephenson b. 1830 (married John's brother, Harvey Stephenson in 1847).

An aside -- Melissa & John Stephenson had a daughter they named Matilda, and Matilda & Harvey Stephenson lived next door in Cass Co. with their daughter named Melissa. I have thought that Melissa and Matilda (the moms) might be sisters because of this, but I have no hard evidence.

The Reams, Reames Family by Harry Smith (1954) indicates Melissa b. 1827 is 1 of Aaron's 13 children, as does another Reams Family history book. However, Melissa's death certificate (d. 1900) indicates her parents are William Reames and Hannah Tharp. Per the book noted above, Hannah was the 1st wife of William Reames b. 1807 (brother to Aaron). It states that William & Hannah married on 1/19/1827 (in Logan Co., OH), however, Melissa was born on 5/24/1827 (in Logan Co., OH) and came the same year to Cass Co., MI per her obituary.

William Reames b. 1807 is said to have 16 children, but only 12 are mentioned in the above book (and Melissa is not one of them) -- I think the total 16 might have come from the 1881 Mortality meeting that took place in Cass Co., MI. To further complicate matters, William Reames' 1892 obituary that I just received indicates he had 3 wives (as the book mentions), but that he only had 11 children, 6 of whom survive him -- no names are mentioned.

Finally, when Matilda Reames Stephenson b. 1830 was dying in 1866, per guardian papers for her children, it indicates she was taken care of by William Reames the last 4 months of her life (her husband had died earlier that year).

So, I'm suspicious that William might have been Melissa's dad (death cert. indicates this, while the Reames books indicate Aaron), and I'm also left wondering if the mystery Matilda Reames Stephenson (1830-1866) also had William for a father (a William took care of her during her final months).

I dont have much information to share, I didn't grown up very closely with my father (Glen Reams II) but would be willing to help. Did you attend the family reunion?

Nancy Catherine Reams - Hamlet Bailey, Charlotte Co, VA

Nancy Catherine Reams and Hamlet Bailey were married on 29 Jan, 1882 in Charlotte Co., VA. I am their g-grandson.

Can anyone help me trace Nancy Catherine's family back beyond her?

One of my aunts remembered Nancy Catherine's parents as John William Reams and Mary Elizabeth North. There was a John William Reams who married Elizabeth Betty Harrison, and they could have been ancestors, but they seem at least a generation removed from Nancy Catherine.

Hope someone can help.

Davis, “Jackson’s Gap,” Tallapoosa County A History, Tallapoosa County Bicentennial Committee, Service Printing Company, Alexander City, Alabama, 1976 page 162:

Many of the early settlers were Baptist. The Tallapoosa Baptist Church was constituted on December 17, 1852 with 10 charter members—4 men and 6 women—and with A. W. Bullard as pastor. The charter members were: John W. When there are dates with such "precision", I have to believe that they were recorded by someone who would be in a position to know them.

I will be going to the Tallapoosa County courthouse in a couple of weeks and would be happy to look up anything you can think of.

Last week, I found the marriage record for Sarah Reams and W D Duett on 20 Nov 1856. The bond was placed by W D Duett and B B Reams.

I think I saw a reference to the Reames family in the Tallapossa County Heritage book. I'll check it out too.

In 1860 there is a Catherine LEE(age 15) living with the Berimon B REEMS household in Tallapoosa, AL. At the same time we find Bartlett's family in FL. I wonder if this is the same Catherine.

I, too, determined that Berriman wasn't Bartlett. Children's and wives' names were different, as were dates of birth. It was confusing for a while, and I wondered if perhaps his middle name was Bledsoe instead of Bartlett. I'm pretty sure they aren't brothers, perhaps cousins.

You will find a Bartlett B REAMS family of Orange Co, FL in the 1860 census matching the descriptions of the Bartlett REEMS family of 1850 (Meriwether, GA) and 1870 (Orange, FL).

I conclude that Bartlett B REEMS/REAMS is not the same as Berrimon B REEMS of Tallapoosa, AL in 1860.

They may be brothers. Currently looking for more evidence of this. Some internet sites say so and have the full name as Berrimon Bledsoe REAMES.

I understand they eloped for they were cousins of some degree.

I found Bartlett Reems in the 1850 Meriwether County Georgia Census. I only know of the three daughters. Someone told me Bartlett's middle name was Bledsoe, after his mother's maiden name. Not sure if that's true. Bartlett had twelve brothers and sisters. I'm descended from his brother John. Several of the brother's and sisters moved to Tallapoosa County, Alabama. John later moved to Shelby County, Alabama. I'll give you more information if you don't have the above.
There is a Don Patterson down here who has done a lot of research on the Reams/Patterson families and he has two brothers who married two sisters. He may be able to help you, and I surely am interested, too. Pat

The 1850 census GA, Meriwether Co., lists Asariah Reems with wife Elizabeth, Joshua, James, Elizabeth, and Sarah in HH626. HH627 is Benjamin Reems and family, HH 628 is Bartlett Reems, wife Jane, Sarah E., Catharine, and Martha.

The 1860 census, Tallapoosa Co, AL has Berrimon B. Reems age 40, wife Martha, and 10 children in the house.

The 1870 Orange Co, FL has Bartlett Reems, wife Sarah, William (16), and Sarah (29). This is the Bartlett that was on the 1850 GA census with Asariah.

All of these Bartletts were born in SC and lived in Meriwether co., GA.\

Now, is Berrimon Bartlett really Berrimon B.? Have I missed a link?

I don't know if this is any help but I am working on the reames lineage as that is my grandfather's side. The only help I may be able to give is this: John Reames father is Timothy Allen B 1613-St Mary, Aldemary, London D-06/02/1679 in Henrico, Va-----John Reames B 1650 in Henrico, Va D 1735 in Prince George, Va. His first wife was Alice Harris B 1654 in Va not sure of death, second wife Frances Puckett B 1714 in Surry, Va not sure of death, third wife was also Alice(or Alicia) B 1658 in England. Could this be your Alice from England that he married when he returned to England? That would make them only 8 years different in age. Is this a possibility? I have some more but maybe this is what you are looking for.

I am very interested in the Hardin County, Ohio REAM Family and have quite a bit of information on the branch that settled in and around Ada, Hardin County, Ohio.

I do show a Joseph Ream (18 Dec. 1871-?) and his brother, Charles D. Ream (19 Feb. 1875-?). These were two of the eight children born to Benjamin Franklin & Laura Jane Gilbert Ream. Ben & Laura Jane Gilbert's other children were Allen G. Ream, Edward A. Ream, Mary D. Ream, Minnie Ream, Ora Edith Ream Longfellow; and Franklin Garfield Ream.

While I do have a little bit more information on the some of the descendants of Ben & Laura Jane Gilbert Ream, I have nothing more on any descendants of their sons, Joseph Ream and Charles D. Ream. From what you have on the pictures of the tombstones, do you think your Joseph E. Reams and your Charles Reams could be the sons of Ben & Laura Jane Gilbert Ream?

At the moment, it does not appear that any of the Reames or Reams you have found in the Hale Cemetery are related to my Ream family. My Ream ancestors & their relatives settled in southern Hancock County and eventually moved to the Ada area. So far, it appears that all of the saved the "Ream" spelling of their surname.

Again, thank for looking up that information for me.

Sincerely,
Bill Ream

Laura's sister Marian is my husband's g grandmother. I don't believe that he would know what Laura looked like. His g grandmother died in 1926.

I have a picture of his g grandmother when she was younger and I also have a picture of another one of Laura sisters - Anne. If you want you can email the picture to me and I could compare everybody to see if they have any simularities.
Chris
