Reardon, Walter F.
May 12, 2009 longtime resident of Upland, California, passed away peacefully May 12th in Maui after suffering a stroke while vacationing with his loving wife, Pat, their youngest daughter, Kathleen and granddaughter, Alex. Walt, also known to many as "Bud," was born October 3, 1931. The only child of Walter and Elizabeth "Lila" Reardon, he was a native of Lynn, Massachusetts, moving with his parents to Los Angeles during the 1930's. He married his high school sweetheart in 1951, later was activated from the US Naval Reserve to be stationed in Kodiak, Alaska. After his military service he graduated from UCLA with a degree in Accounting, later earning his CPA certificate and eventually received an MBA from The Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University. After residing in Temple City he and his growing family settled in Upland, California in 1967. Rising through a variety of accounting positions, he taught Accounting classes at Citrus and Chaffey Colleges before founding his own CPA firm in Upland in 1971. While actively involved in the California CPA Society, his firm grew prominently within the Inland Empire to become Reardon & McCallum, and later merged into the regional firm of Mellon, Johnson and Reardon. Walt served on numerous boards. He was a former Chairman and longtime member of the San Antonio Community Hospital Foundation Board of Directors in Upland. He also held the elected position of Upland City Treasurer for 28 years, until stepping down last November, as the longest elected city official to serve the City of Upland. Loved by all who know him, and a confidant to many, he was truly a Renaissance Man - an accomplished leader, with an avocation for reading and learning new things, an adventurous world traveler, an experienced sailor, golfer, UCLA Bruin fan and a longtime jogger and walker along Euclid Avenue. In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, "Dad" a.k.a. "Papa" is survived and loved by six children and thirteen grandchildren. His children are: Michael (Cathy) of Lake Forest, IL; William "Bill" (Pam) of Upland, CA; Mary (Forrest) Fleming of Santa Barbara, CA; Tricia (Ray) Krakowski of Ventura, CA; David (Stephanie) of Alta Loma, CA; Kathleen of Summerland, CA. His grandchildren are: Laura (Mike & Cathy), Kimberly, Kelly, Bobby (Bill & Pam), Joe, Scott, Maddi (Mary & Forrest), Devon, Krista, Michelle (Tricia & Ray), Kevin, Cory (David & Stephanie), Alexandra (Kathleen). In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that contributions be made to the San Antonio Community Hospital Foundation (999 San Bernardino Rd. Upland, CA 91786, (909) 920-4962) in the honor of Walter F. Reardon. "...And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
