all recchia's come from Casalvieri, Frosinone, Italy - a quaint past-impoverished village - my father had left the village after WWII - and your descendant? - when had they left? - had you ever visited the village?

I also just stumbled upon this page.My family is from Mola di Bari When i went there a few years ago i purchased a book
on the important families of Mola and there is a chapter with the Recchia name and the cote of arms for the family.
There is also a srteet in mola called Via recchia.If you would like i can scan the pages and email you.

Recchia family in Civitiquana, Italy

My maternal grandmother, Maria Recchia, came from Civitiquana, Abruzzo, Italy in 1913. She was a seamstress. She married Rocco D'Amico, her childhood sweetheart, and they settled in Wappingers Falls, New York. At least two of her sisters also came over--Carmela and Lily.

I believe her mother was named Gelsomina, and that she may have had one or more sisters who remained in Civitiquana. Does anyone have any information on this family?

Hi! After a trip to the archives in Bari (1865 to present), and then to the nearby archives in Trani (before 1865), this is what I know.

Also, if anyone makes a similar trip, contact me and save yourself the headache of going to the "wrong" archives ("anagrafe" is what you call them in Italian, and not all can help you...)

My great-grandmother was Francesca RECCIA ( no "H" ! ). She was born in 1861 or 1864, perhaps in Bari, maybe in the north.

I don't now about her parents or siblings!

I do know that she married ANDREA EMMANUELLE GIUSEPPE AGOSTO, and that they had 6 children, from 1885 to 1902.

Please contact me if you know anything.....

My great-grandmother was FRANCESCA RECCIA ( no "H" ), who had 6 children in Bari, with Andrea Agosto.

Francesca was born in either 1861 or 1864.

I was there this summer, digging...

My great grandmother was Francesca Reccia, born in 1864. While her hsuband was from Bari and the family lived in Bari Molfetta, and Chicago...I can't locate a birth certificate.

So I am asking all Reccia's if anyone is related to a Francesca Reccia, born 1964. She married Andrea Agosto of Bari....and had 6 children.

My great-great grandmother's maiden name was listed as Recchimuzzi. It's quite a rare name in italy today, and I am finding it difficult to trace any records for her. I'm assuming that it could quite possibly be a combination of two names (or the muzzi could be a sub-surname aka nickname). I have read that many times a families would take on a second name to distinguish their branch from another in the family. I would assume this is why the name Recchi Muzzi or Recchimuzzi. Or perhaps the name came about through a marriage. I also read that the woman's second name gets taken by the man in a marriage. So if the man's surname was Recchi and her second name was Muzzi, the married name would then be Recchi Muzzi. Or something to that effect.

Do you happen to know the meaning of the name Recchi? What type of surname is it? Patrynomic, a place name, etc.

Her name was Rosa Recchimuzzi. She married Antonio Palumbo in Italy. Not sure where they were from however. They had many children: Isabella 1880 died in infancy; Savino Palumbo born in 1882/3 who married carmina martire and had three children, his eldest son died in the war. Vincenzo born 1885. Nicola Giuseppe born 1887. Isabella (my great grandmother) born 1891. Donata born 1896 - may have died of some disease as a young girl. They were all born in San Ferdinando di Puglia. However, I have not found out as of yet where their parents came from. I am assuming they moved to San Ferdinando from elsewhere.

Judging from the italian naming conventions I would assume that Rosa's father was named Vincenzo Recchi Muzzi and that her mother would have been named Donata.

Rosa would have been born between 1850 & 1860. If you happen to have her in your family tree, would you be so kind as to let me know? If she happens to be a part of your family tree, I would LOVE to trade vitals for photos.

I believe my grandfather Alfred Petraglia was the son of Guiseppe. He was born in 1891 and died in 1979

He had a falling out with his family.

The reason why I think it was him is because my father Alfred Petralia (g removed and who passed away in 1999) mentioned that Grandpa has a sister Rose and a brother Freddie.

Our family was from Queens Village.

hello max I have Recchia's in our family.. My great-grandmother was a Recchia...Maria Domenica Recchia. She married a D'Angela and my grandmother was born in 1883 Maria Philomena D'Angela. They lived in Lyon or Paris France and Casalvieri Italy. My grandmother married Giovanni DiRezze from Casalvieri and they eventually immigrated to the U.S. in about 1918. We are also related to Fanelli's from Casalvieri. We are a very close knit family and I hope some day to come to Italy and visit the place where my great-grandparents and grandparents were born.

I am trying to find out where my Italian great-grandparents were originally from. Their names were Raffale and Antonia Recchia and they came to York, England in the late 1800s - they had a lot of children!, one of them being my grandfather Anthony. Can anyone help?

I am also trying to find out where my great grandmother on my maternal side was from in Italy - her name was Rosina Frankie and she married Edmund Percy Kidd in Yorkshire.

Sorry for the long delay in replying. The info I have on Guiseppe, which may or may not be correct, is that he was born on 5/29/1852 in Ferrandina Italy and died 10/06/1928 in Queens NY. He married Camilla Digrottole and they had 6 children: Rocco, Pasquale,Antoinette (Rose), Fedele (Freddie), John and Alfred.

Does this sound right to you?

Hi! I am so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to rootsweb. Imagine my suprise and delight when I saw that there were posts!! I have to reinstall my family tree maker to make sure, but I am related to the Petraglia's because my mother's maiden name is Petraglia. Her father was Biaggo Eugene Anthony Petraglia born 10/08/12. His father was Pasquale Petraglia and his grandfather was Guiseppe.

I need to load up Family Tree Maker on this computer and start to enter all the info you gave me -- I am almost positive it's a match!

I do not speak french. I am american. my grandmother was Maria Filomena D'Angela born in 1883 to Francisco D'Angela and Maria Domenica Recchia. She was born in Casalvieri, Italy. It is interesting that her husband Giovanni DiRezze went to Detroit when he first came to the US. There are many DiRezzes there and some in Canada along with The Fanelli's to whom we are also related.
