Has this question been answered?
I can say for sure that Carmello was not born a Reda and did in fact marry Santo. Both of them resided in Youngstown, Ohio. If there are any other questions, please ask.

Thanks

Anthony Reda Jr.
Columbus, Ohio

Hello again! Yes, now that I read THIS e-mail, I see that your wife and I are first-cousins! You are married to Susan Cacio...and the Roger you mention in your e-mail was my dad. Aunt Sue and Roger died within days of each other in November, 1999...it's hard to believe that they have both been gone almost a decade. Please let Sue know we found each other this way and feel free to write to me anytime at denisewalk@hughes.net You've done GREAT research on this ! I wish I had more info to offer. ;-)

If in fact that your Grandfather and my wife's grandfather are brothers, my wife and you are second cousins. Were you able to read the attachment that shows the names of Nellie Sparta and Dominic Ecolano on the death cert for my wife's Grandfather? I do not have any info on your Grandfather other than one of the Ecolano's had mentioned the brother. It was in my family tree maker software that I use to keep trach of everyone. The Ecolano's all ended up in the Baltimore area. We are going to go to Sicily where the Ecolano's came from within the next few years. I am trying to come up with more info on the Ecolano side. This has been the most difficult side of the family to research. Glad to have you add your info. Lets chat some more

I don't know a lot about Joseph. Him and my grandmother (Helen Yow) divorced when my dad was young. Helen passed away this year. Beside my father, Joseph and Helen had two other children. Donald and Barbra. (both still alive)I know my grandfather lived in Michigan and North Carolina. He passed away in the late 80's and lived on the east coast. Do you know if he had any other children after he left my grandmother? It would be fun to learn that I had aunts, uncles and cousins I didn't know about.

The familiar part is that I have a death cert for Carmelo Ecolano and his parents were Nellie Sparta and Dominic Ecolano. It might be possible that your grandfather Joseph and my wifes grandfather Carmelo Ecolano were brothers. I have not had luck tracing either Nellie or Dominic. My wifes mother first name is Nellie. Was your grandfather in West Virginia in the coal mines? Carmelo Ecolano was a coal miner and have on the 1920 census. I have more info and would like to discuss further. I have attached the death cert for Carmelo Ecolano.

Joseph Ecolano was my father. He passed away in 2004. His fater was also Joseph, but his parents names were Nellie Sparta and Dominico Ecolano. Does any of this sound familar to you, or is it just a coincidence? I've not had any luck finding any info on Nellie and Dominico. All I know is they came from Palermo Italy.

Your great grandfather Pasquale Leone is my great-great grandfather. He and Marrianna had at least six children together--two of them, Louis (1916-1984) and Linda (1914-present) would marry two of the children of Lithuanian immigrants Sylvester Dapkus and Frances Maziliauskas, namely George (1913-1989) and Agnes (1918-?). Other than Great Uncle Lou who died when I was two, I regularly saw Linda and George Dapkus, and Agnes Leone as a child in Chicago.
Pasquale and Marrianna's other children include Alphonse (1913-1994), Pasquale or Pasquilito (1918-2006), Regonita (1909-?), and Luigi (no dates known on that one).
Hope that helps.

My maternal grandparents Giovanni(John)Antonio & Filomena REDA(nee REDA)came to the US in approx. 1902-03 settling in Brooklyn, NY, re-settling in Tacoma, WA after 1910. They had the following children: George, Jennie Marie, Frank, Albert & Esther (my mother). Information I have on lineage is as follows:

GIOVANNI ANTONIO REDA, b1876 in Domanico/Cosenza/Calabria; d1951 - Tacoma, WA
FR: Gaetano REDA, b1835; M-Maria Antonia GRECO, b1849 - both born in Domanico.
Paternal GP's: Giuseppe REDA/Giuseppina GRECO
Maternal GP's: Gaetano GRECO/Rosaria BUFFONE

John's siblings were??? He had at least one brother whom married a sister of Filomena - some of their children were George, Frank & Jennie.

FILOMENA REDA, b1883 in Carolei/Cosenza/Calabria; d1962 - Tacoma, WA
FR: Antonio Maria REDA, b1826; M-Innocenza Greco GUARASCIO, b1836 - both born in Carolei
Paternal GP's: Francesco REDA/Maria Carmela RAGUSA
Maternal GP's: Vincenzo GUARASCIO/Nicolina DECICCO

Filomena's siblings were: Rosa, Vincenzo, Teresa(1), Teresa(2), Giuseppe*, Natale Antonio, Francesco, Maria Carmela & Raffaelina - all born in Carolei (*born Piane Crati).

I posted this message hoping that someone might have information regarding John's siblings. But mostly, I'd like to connect with "cousins" from the Brooklyn line (especially cousin George's descendants - he & his wife Sally came for visits when I was a child & I loved them dearly!) and, perhaps, with any relatives presently living in Calabria.

Thank you.

Rita

My name is Michael Reda. I was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvaina, and my father was Thomas Reda. My grandfather, whom I never met, and who left my father and grandmother when he was about 5 years old (around 1942). My grandfather was named Anthony Reda. My Grandmother was Eva. All my life I was led to believe that Anthony was Polish (because Eva was), but I now believe he was Italian. I know that he died back in the 1990's sometime. I think that he lived in or around Scranton, PA...Possibly Lake Ariel, PA. If you knew him, I would love to talk. I know nothing about my family history. Thanks!
Trying to trace wife's roots to Italy. Have record from Ellis Island with Rosa Reda coming to USA from Palermo on ship named Santa Anna arriving 16 April, 1915. Believe this is my wife's grandmother. Her married name was Rose Ecolono. She first lived in Beckley West Viriginia for a years (unknown how many) and then moved to Baltimore where she passed away in April 1979. She married Charly Ecolono and had 6 children, Jack, Roger, Joseph, William, Milton and Sue. Sue (Ecolano) Cacio is my wife's mother who passed away in Nov 1999. Cannot find ecolono on Ellis Island site but name in Italy may have been Ercolino. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Michelle......Ok......I have checked my tree, and found a Pasquale born 01/31/1843 and Dominico born 03/04/1841. I know these aren't the same people, however it is possible that these men could be direct decendants of your family. Their brothers and sisters are....Santo, Angela Maria, Giacinto, Angelo, Natale, Guiseppina, Filomena, Teresa and Finuzzo....Birthdates range from 1827-1852. Their parents are Luigi and Maria. All of these people were from Consenza, Calabria Italy. If you could, please send me what you have and I will check further. I have alot of holes still, but we may be able to help each other! Thanks!

Rosemarie, I just saw your message concerning the Reda family in Grand Crossing. I am the daughter-in-law of Michael Reda,(older brother to Jolly) son of Pietro Reda. Pietro had 3 brothers, Anthony, Louie and Joseph. From what I have been told, Joseph stayed in Italy. My Husband is William, Pietro's family all lived in Grand Crossing. Pietro died in 1918. I would like to hear more about your family line.

Molly, Do you know anything about Joseph Reda's brothers? Pietro Reda had a brother named Joseph, we had been told that he remained in Italy. There are two other known brothers, Anthony and Lowigi. Pietro, Anthony and Lowigi did come to the US in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
