I definately need more information on Columbus. This has been a dead end for me for over 20 years. I would appreciate any additional information on this family, particularly Elmira. I believe she was married before Columbus as she had a child named William Coleman before she married Columbus.

I have his marriage record for the marriage of Mary Ann Elizabeth Hatcher (another relative of mine, different lineage). They were married in Feb 1857 but by the census in 1860 (Walton County, Florida) he is married to Elmira unknown with 2 children in the household. William Coleman b. b 1856 and Thomas Reddick b. Dec 1859.

By 1870 the family is in Washington County, Florida with 3 more children, Jane, George, and Cornelius.

Columbus must have left or died between 1870 and 1875 because by 1880 Elmira is on a census record with David Bryant in Washington County, Florida and they have 2 children of their own.

I have a newspaper article from March 17 1857, telling the story of COLUMBUS REDDING who married a Ms. HATCHER, at Warrington FL. on Feb 15 1857. Within about 30 days, he proceded to marry a 2nd wife in Milton FL. She was the daughter(2nd wife) of a prominent citizen who was'nt real happy about the bigamy charge. COLUMBUS REDDICK and 2nd wife took off for Mobile AL. He was arrested and returned by stagecoach to answer charges.
If you need any more info, let me know!

DAVE

My records show that Adeline Rebecca Black married Jesse Turner had 3 children Susan Turner born 1865 in Dublin, Laurens, GA, Andrew Washington Turner, born 1 Jan 1867 (this is my gr-grandfather) he was married to Phoebe Isabelle Sirmans and their last child Mary Turner born 1872 in Dublin, Laurens, GA. My records also show on an 1880 US Census that Rebecca Turner was widowed with 3 children as named above. I also have record of 1990 census showing Rebecca Turner living with her son Andrew W. Turner and family in Rays Mill, Berrien, GA and a notation that Rebecca was blind. Your information is interesting stating that Rebecca was married once before. I would like more information. you may contact me at debsimon51@aol.com

Hello,
This is James Crumley, I have been in contact with you before on Grace Reddick, wife of Art Epping, mother of Richard Epping, grandmother of my wife. The question I have is on ancestry.com where you and I first discussed her.
All the trees show Grace's mother as Rachael Gertrude Bailey, same name as in the Herald Whig obit. But they show her as Born Feb 02, 1904 Quincy, Illinois. In looking at the date of birth that would make her 9 years old when gave birth to Grace.
The 1930 census records show Grace 16, with her parents Nicholas R. 59, and Rachael G 49, along with sisters Dorothy G. 6, and Lila F. 10 and brother Marion P. 18, the 1920 shows the family name spelled as Rettig, with Nicholas 1871, Gertrude 1882, Edna 1909, Marion 1912, Dorothy 1914, Grace 1915 and Lila 1919, the 1910 has Nicholas 29, Gertrude 29, Edna 11-12 mo, Harold Lee 6. Last name spelled Reddick.
Harold would then be the son of an unknown first wife, with Edna being first child of second wife Gertrude/Rachael G. 1910-1920 census spelling Gertrude, the 1930 census spelling Rachael G.
I believe that the birth and death information these lines have for Rachael Gertrude Bailey is incorrect and is for a different person than the one that was married to Nicholas Rolland Reddick and mother of Grace Mildred Reddick my wifes Grandmother.
I have not been able to find anything in the 1900 census but do find Nicholas with his father Pleasant Reddick in Pike County in 1880, and Brown County in 1870
It has been some years now since last contacted you and am hoping that maybe someone else has seen this and possibly have found out the correct information on Grace's mother.
Please let me know what you think on this and if anyone has further information.
Thank you for your time, James Crumely
James

Well, what a surprise. Walter N. Reddick abandoned his first family before my father was a year old, but based on Dad's firm conviction, we all thought that his elder brother - Walter Newton Reddick - had the same middle name as his absent father. In fact, Dad understood the wife of his half-brother from Walter N.'s second marriage, Walter Reddick, to have told him directly that her husband's middle name was also Walter Newton! This redoubled the certainty of our family's lore that my grandfather's middle name was Newton. When I saw the draft registration, I thought it was either a mistake or a joke (The man was almost 40 when he registered).

I have just received a formal copy of my grandfather's death certificate: his middle name was indeed Napoleon!

Thanks for leading me to check this out and thus to be able to correct this wrong impression we have had for so long. (If you would like an electronic copy of the death certificate, let me know.)

Best wishes.

Bryan

Hi Sorry I have not replied sooner. I've not had the oppertunity to check into the additional information you sent. I think though, that you line might desend from Wm Reddick and Margaret Trump's line. I have had some confusion because the 2 lines are very simular in location, times and use the same names frequently. Wm Reddick and my line from Thomas have been proven with DNA to be distantly related, but I think it would have been too far back to find out how.
Anyway I will try to check some census records this weekend and get back to you.
Thanks Robin

I don't know if you are still researching Reddick, but just happend to fill in some names on my genealogy and have a B. C. Reddick (born in 1827 in MIssouri), another census shows her as Catherine. She married Preston Johnson in Arkansas and is suppose to have died there, one of her daughters, Sarah, married my family member, Oval James Walker or James Oval Walker in Yell, Arkansas and they moved to Oklahoma where they both died. Do no know if this is the same person, but sounded familiar. If this is the same Reddick please email me at: rl.batty@comcast.net
Thank you
Darlene

While our family history says that my 4th great grandfather, Major Reddick, is from Georgia, I've yet to find any documents (aside from Censuses saying he was born in either GA or SC) verifying the story. If you connect your Reddicks to Reddicks who migrated to Alachua County, FL, please let me know!

OLDHENOLDHEN,

The Reddick-Benbow-Means reunion is held every 2 years in a different place, but most often in Florida. Last year, we convened outside of Baltimore, MD. The next reunion will be in Florida in 2010. Our website will be updated with all the information: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~aisha1978/

If the link doesn't show, just google Reddick Benbow Means and our page will be up first.

We are trying to post all of our family history there, including documents we find here on ancestry.

Interesting. I'll have to talk to my cousin. I know that our Reddicks migrated all over Florida, particularly to Daytona (my 2nd great grandfather sold the land to Mary McLeod Bethune where the museum and her grave are located) and to Key West. I think it is only more recently that we've moved to Tallahassee, but I will look into it. Can I have more information about your Laura? What is the name of your tree?

Let me know if there is a connection.

Tausha;

Are you part of the Nicholas Reddick family which lived in Brooks Co., Ga.? I believe Nicholas had a son named Jacob. This is part of the Scot-Irish Riddicks which came into Virginia before the Rev. war. I have all of their family and I believe this Nicholas was a Mason because on his gravestone is the Mason emblem. Also the family crest is on it. Stands for Faith and Hope.

I once thought my husbands family was part of this one but found out we are related to the Georgia Reddoch's.

Have more on this family but did not know this Jacob had a child by an African American. Course that was never admitted back then. Send me your e-mail address if you think this is your Jacob Reddick. Mine is creddick
@peoplepc.com

Shirl.
