I'm interested in William Redman who lived in Baton Rogue Louisiana in 1820 Census. He claims to have 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15 and himself at 26-40. He also has 2 daughters, 1 under 10 and 1 more 10-15. No wife is counted. He was born before 1800. Does anyone have information on this William Redman in Mississippi, Louisiana area?

Canadian Redmans

My parents first came to Canada in the fall of 1963 and we don't know of any other Redmans from my Dad's branch of the Redman family that came over here. His parents were Albert and Dorothy Redman (nee Collins) and my father (Donald John Redman b. Dec 15th 1933) grew up in Reading England. My father and the english actress Amanda Redman are first cousins. Being the first born Redman in Canada, I know so little about my family history...I'd love to know where I/we fit in.
I am the grandson of Les Redman, whose father was William 1836 and Mary Vance, whose father was Thomas Redman 1806 and Sarah Serls, whose father was Daniel Redman 1779 and Prudence Tyler. I do have a record of their marraige (Daniel and Prudence). I do not know if he had other wives. It has been a while since I was working this line and I'm sure I have lots of holes in mine. Would love to share information if you would like. I'm always available here or my home email is eurocrisp@yahoo.com I do have a lot of information on William, who was a prisoner in Andersonville for a time, but no pictures. Both my Leslie and William Redmans were born and raised in Lewis County, KY.
Jeff

Re: Daniel REDMAN, Millwood, Virginia to Kentucky, 1774-ca 1860

A biographical sketch of my great-grandfather William H Redman, published in the "History of Buchanan County and the City of St. Joseph and Representative Citizens 1826 to 1904", Rutt, Chris L. (Biographical Publishing Company, Chicago, Illinois, 1904), p. 377. states that his father James Redman (b.1820) was the son of Daniel Redman and Sally Calhoun and that he was reared and educated in Lewis County, Kentucky.

Daniel's household is enumerated in Lewis County, Kentucky in 1840.
1840 > KENTUCKY > LEWIS > NO TWP LISTED
Series: M704 Roll: 117 Page: 65
and again in 1850
1850 > KENTUCKY > LEWIS > 2-DIST
Series: M432 Roll: 210 Page: 185

So far I haven't been able to locate James Redman in the 1850 census, although his wife Susan A Sherdine can be found in her father Andrew Sherdine's household in the 1st district of Lewis County, on page 222. This is noteworthy as their son William H Redman was supposed to have been born April 19, 1848, according to his military records.

I have also seen reference (can't recall where) to a wife of Daniel Redman's by the name of Prudence Tylon. I have to wonder whether Tylon may be a corrupted transliteration of Calhoun or vice versa.

Listed on the 1870 census for JOB REDMOND his wife VICTORIA'S household there were three minors named ELLA REDMOND female age 5 b. Ala., FRANCES REDMOND female age 3 b. Ala, and WALTER REDMOND male age 1 b. Ala..
Does anybody know who this ELLA was? I don't have her listed as one of JOB and VICTORIA'S children. I don't know why not if she was listed on the census. The names I had for JOB and VICTORIA'S children came from my Uncle Loyd, son of JOHN JEFFERSON. He told me back in the late 80's who his uncles and aunts were that he could remember. Maybe, ELLA died young and he didn't know about her.
She is not listed on the 1880 census but she would have been about 15 yrs. old and it is a possiblity she could have been married by then. The 1880 census lists the following in the household of JOB AND VICTORIA REDMON: FRANCIS age 12, WALTER age 10, MARY age 8, VICTORIA age 6, ZORA age 4, and EUGENE REDMON age 1.
The elder REDMONS were living with ZORA and MILES SIMMONS on the 1900 census. Then on the 1910 census they are living with their son JOHN REDMON. On the 1920 census JOB has died and CAROLINE V. REDMON is living with her daughter ZORA SIMMONS again. CAROLINE VICTORIA was living with her daughter, MRS. E.E. JOHNSTON when she applied for a CSA widows pension. MRS. E. E. JOHNSTON was MARY ELIZABETH REDMON who married EDWIN E. JOHNSTON.
Again, does anybody know any more about Job's children especially Ella, Mack or a Bud?
Different spellings for these Redmons are REDMON, REDMOND, REDMAN, REDMAND.
genealogy dna special - 2 tests for the price of 1

Hi :)

If anyone is thinking of doing a dna test in the near future ... I just wanted to let you know that the Family Tree DNA Lab
is having a special where you pay for one male Y dna test & they will do that test AND the mitochondrial dna test.

The Y dna test tells you about your father's line &
the mitochondrial dna test tells you about your mother's line.

So you are getting 2 tests for the price of one ...
this offer is good only till the end of September 2008.

If you go to my webpage at ...

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/redmond/

and click on the top left logo, then you will be taken to the home page of Family Tree DNA lab.
By clicking on the "pricing tag" you can see an outline of what all their products cost. The direct link is at ...

http://www.familytreedna.com/pricing.html

which shows you that the basic 12 marker test is $149. But instead of ordering the test through that page,
you can get a discount to $99 by ordering the same test through my REDMOND project. To do this, go to my webpage at ...

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/redmond/

and click on the link near the top left that reads "REQUEST TO JOIN THIS GROUP".
On the next page, click on the tab that reads "I want to purchase a test to join this project".
On the next page you fill in the info for them to mail you you test kit
& near the bottom of the page you will see a drop-down box called "Type of Test"
where you can select which product you want to order.
And this is where they offer you the $99 price for the same 12 marker kit that they usually charge $149 for.
It takes 4 to 6 weeks for the 12 marker test to come back.
If you request a test with more markers, the further results return in about 6 to 8 weeks.

Hope to see you there :)

NICOLE

Administrator of the REDMOND & variant surnames DNA Project at
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/redmond
George Washington Redman was born 1819 and he is father of Thomas Jefferson Redman born 1842.I have a census 1850 from Holt, Missouri showing what I think is the family. The dates seem right.
Hi Alicia :)

By clicking on your name, I learned about your family tree website with lots of great info & old pictures.

If you are interested in hearing about connections to famous people ...
In your family tree website you have the immigrant Edward FitzRANDOLPH m=10 May 1637 (Mary) Elizabeth BLOSSOM.
One of his descendants is presidential hopeful Barack OBAMA.

If you are interested in hearing about corrections ...
In your family tree website you have Elizabeth VANCE who is over 100 years OLDER than her father William VANCE.

-----

Here are some dates you are missing for some of the children of Isaac N. REDMAN, Sr. m=ALDRIDGE ...

- Alice A. n=Apr 1884
- Martha J. n=Mar 1888 m=Charles THOMAS (1930 census dwelling#227)
- Bessie P. n=Nov 1892
- Isabella n=Jun 1894
- Isaac=Ike N., Jr. n=Aug 1897
- Viola n=abt.1907
- Cora n=1905-1910 d=Nov 1915 (in fire witnessed by siblings)

- Roy n=06 Jun 1905 PA,Washington-Co,Roscoe d=30 Oct 1953 OH,Zanesville (write me for various stories about him)
m1=Malinda JOHNSON m2=Mrs. Anna (HILTABIDEL) HAWK m3=Mary Margaret GREEN

- Nelson (1930 census dwelling#230) m=Ada Belle SPIELMAN=SPEELMAN=SPILLMAN
(daughter of William SPIELMAN=SPEELMAN, Sr. & Catherine=Katie = 1930 census dwelling#224)

-----

Alicia> I'm looking for info. on the Simpson side

Here is another SIMPSON connection which is not included on your family tree website ...

.1 James REDMAN n=abt.1813 VA m=Ann KANE=KAIN?
..2 Sarah E. REDMAN n=abt.1844 VA m=Samuel SIMPSON n=abt.1844 PA (son of Gilbert SIMPSON & Ann)
...3 Nelson SIMPSON n=abt.1882 PA,Belle-Vernon m=Josephine BATCH
....4 Hazel SIMPSON n=abt.1916 (with COLQUITT grandchildren)

On your family tree website you have generation #2 Sarah REDMAN as born in 1858, however if you look at the
1850 & 1860 census that you have for her parents, you will find Sarah with them, so she is older than what you have.

Also you are missing the 1880 census for her parents ...

1880/06/11 Census of PA,Fayette-Co,Jefferson-Twp ed#43 enumerated by J. W. MILLER
roll#T9_1130 LDS#1255130 stamp#273 p27 line#3 dwelling#231 family#243:
MD MD/MD 63 James REDMAN occ=farm laborer
MD MD/MD 53 Kane (wife)
PA MD/MD 22 Nancy B.(daughter)
PA MD/MD 20 Isaac occ=miner (son)
PA MD/MD 17 Ellen (daughter)
PA MD/MD 14 Samuel (son)
PA MD/MD 10 Jeffrey (son)
PA MD/MD 4m David F. (grandson);

Here James' wife Ann is called Kane ... I wonder is that is her maiden surname ?
I notice that you have some other CAINs in your family tree, so I wonder if there is a family connection there ?

By 1850 James REDMAN had moved his family from Virgina to Pennsylvania.
On the 1850 census James is born in Virginia & on the 1880 census he is born in Maryland.
I think the difference is because there was border dispute between Virginia & Maryland
that was settled in the 1870s around the Potomac River.

NICOLE

Administrator of the REDMOND & variant surnames DNA Project at
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/redmond
Redmans in W. PA

I am searching for my gggrandmother, Lavinia Redman, born Aug. 1833 in PA. The only reference to anyone of that name was in a census in which she was listed as a single black female living with a black family in Pittsburgh, probably as a servant. According to family lore, Lavinia was born to a Cherokee Indian and an unknown white woman who was kidnapped and taken to WV; she died giving birth to Lavinia. Lavinia married John Walters abt. 1856. In 1880 they lived in N. Fayette Twp., Allegheny Co., PA.
