I'm from the Reece family line. Our family was in the North Carolina area in the 1760's but later settled in Northern Georgia. My mother had a DNA test done and would be glad to share her results.

There is no connection here, but I find it coincidental that my GGgrandfather, Charles M. Reece married Sarah Farrell. He was born in MS and she in Iowa where they were married.

According to the death certificate of Lawson Gilbert Reece, his father was Hugh Atchison Reece and his mother was Evelyn Blackmore. Lawson was married to Ida Bockhouse. Lawson and Ida had 3 daughters, one was Julie who married Albert Tate. Julie and Albert had several children, one was Raymond. Raymond married Clara Belle Eoff and they had five children. I am one of those children.I would appreciate any info on Hugh, Evelyn, Lawson, or Ida.

I have a Harriet Rece, b. 26 Oct 1814 (Cabell Cty W.V.) d. 11 May 1874 who
married a Benjamin Davis b. 10 Jul 1814 (Cabell Cty W.V.) d. 09 Mar 1865.

Harriet was the daughter of Joseph Rece and Mary A. Harmon Rece. I do not
have any other information or children listed for Benjamin or Harriet since
this is not my direct line. I come from the line of Joseph's brother "Abia".

To the Barnes, Cates, Kates, O’Berry, Reese, Reece, Sherod, Sherrod, Wilson, Booth, Prentice, Prentiss, Crumer, and Cromer Families:

I am turning to all families that may be connected to my current quest:

My 2nd Great Grandmother was Laura Cates Barnes. Her middle name may have been Kate. According to census records, she was born in Florida; death records provide her birth date as 26 Sep 1845; passed away on 1 Nov 1907, Kissimmee, Osceola, FL. They are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Kissimmee, FL. Laura Cates married James Alpheus Barnes about 1865. James Alpheus Barnes was the son of Benjamin Barnes, who was son of Jesse Barnes...of South Carolina.

Laura Cates and James Alpheus Barnes had the following children:
1) Elizabeth Waller Barnes, b: 1 Dec 1867, Lake City, Columbia County FL; married James Franklin O’Berry
2) Benjamin Reese Barnes; b 26 Jul 1869; Lake City FL; died 1870
3) Sherod (Sherrod) Alpheus Barnes; b 4 Nov 1870; died 1872
4) George Theodore Barnes; b 24 Mar 1872; died 1917
5) Rosa Jane Barnes; b 10 Mar 1874; died 1879
6) Ola Verdelia Barnes; b 17 Jul 1876; died 15 May 1936 (married Daniel T. Wilson “Dede”)
7) William C. Barnes; b 13 Oct 1879;

Tracing the ancestry of Laura Cates has become a nightmare. I have all the census records “after” her marriage to James Alpheus Barnes. I have followed up “family” leads, expanded my search to NC, GA, TN, AL and TX. In desperation I started studying the names of her children for clues, which has led me on a very interesting study of the following families: Sherod, Sherrod, Reece, and Reese.

I have stumbled upon the following information that seems to mean nothing, but could provide a breakthrough:
• In 1842, a Mary Reece, born 1825 in TN married a Robert H. Sherrod, born 1816 in TN.
• On July 2, 1882 in TX, a Mary Elizabeth Cates married Granville Sherrod (born 8 May 1859 in TN, son of John “Jack” Sherrod). Mary Elizabeth Cates was daughter of William D. Cates (b 5 Dec 1831, TN) and Martha M. Booth (b 15 Aug 1841).
• In Maine, I discovered an Ola Cates...no further information.
• In Alabama, 1849, a Malinda Cates purchased property Alabama.
• In “The Ancestors & Descendents of Carroll Prentice” it is stated that Samuel Wesley Prentice, (son of William Prentice) born 20 January 1809 in Louisville, Jefferson Co. Kentucky; married Malinda Crumer Cates 1848.
• The 1850 Marshall AL census shows a Malinda Prentice living with Cates children, including a Laura Cates age 4.
• The 1860 Marshall AL census shows Malinda and Samuel Prentice with children including Laura Prentice age 14.
• The 1870 Marshall AL census shows Malinda and Samuel Prentice with children and Laura Cates age 24.

I would very much appreciate any help in solving the mystery regarding my GGG grandmother Laura Cates O’Berry.

I am sorry, but I find no connection to James Aubrey Reece with the Reeces in my line. My earliest connection is Jehu Reece (living in 1741 & 1762, son of David (died ca. 1741) and Mary Williams Reece from Delaware.

I looked at my paper the Travace that I have was b. in 1740 in Greenville SC. He was married to Ann ? they had Thomas,Henry,Jesse,John,Sarah, and Mary.I am related through Thomas who had William Elder Rees. I am looking for Travace's parents. And any other history with this line.

Travace Rees was my last known relative. before him I have no info. I will look at my fathers papers and get back to you.The Travace that I am related to was burried in Greenville SC at the Vaughn Cemetery.His son was Thomas Rees b. in 1760.I am looking for any info on were Travace was born and any history about these relatives.Thanks,

Amie Lewis Thomas Griffith was born prior to 1748. Her will dated 1775 names two of her grandchildren: David Reece and Rebecca Reece (1759-1850). They were the children of JEHU (living in 1741 and 1762) and ELEANOR THOMAS REECE (living in 1774). David Reece (abt. 1720-will probated1762) married Mary Williams. Rebecca Reece was born in Delaware, married Samuel Jameson (1766-1836), they were my great great grandparents.

My maternal grandfather was Sylvester Paul Reece who died in 1917 and is buried in Trenton, TX. His parents were Maxwell Chasteen Reece, born in S. Carolina and Ellen Louise Rogers born in KY. Let me know if this helps and if you find more info.

They were Married in Liverpool and their children were:
Adam Reece 1880-1921, Elizabeth Reece 1884,
Magdalena Reis 1886, Annie & Anna Reece 1890,
Rudolf Reis 1892, Ernestina Reece 1895,
and (Grandad)Herman(Herbert)Reece 1899-1969 all born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

Samuel Rees Reese Reece born in Wales

I am looking any information on a Samuel Rees Reese Reece. The only information I have on him,is that he had a son named Richard Reece born 4/9/1822 in Wales. Richard married a Jane Hughes and together they had 5 children. Charles R, Emma E.,George H,Lewis E. and another daughter which I don't have a name for. Richard died in Granville Ohio 4/30/1886.. I too, am researching Reece in Mississippi, namely Marion McDonald Reece, farmer, in Yalobusha County, MS. Son Charles, a RR engineer, went to Iowa. This is my maternal side. Cannot seem to get any response from the folks on the Yalobusha board, but have pretty good evidence for Reece(or some other spelling) at that location. Anybody see a connection? If so, please feel free to respond directly.

Larkin Smith Reese 1872

I am looking for Larkin Smith Reese. Here is what I know.

Larkin's parents were from Alabama according to the 1910 Census in which Larkin says this.

He married Zoe Blanch Prince some time prior to 1902.
He was born in 1872 in Alabama or 1874 in Alabama -- Grave stone says 1872..Census of 1910 says possibly 1874.
He died in 1913 in Missippi -apparently from yellow fever
They had 6 children beginning in 1902 i think.
Names were:
Minnie Reese
Bessie Reese
Ruby Reese
Eliza Reese
Frank Reese
Gladie Reese

I have been looking for him on my own for about 6 months now and it would seem he simply fell from the sky, I have checked 1910, 1900 and 1880 Census docs, looked for marriage records, wills, taxes and every thing else I can think of.

If you have any information on his Parents please let respond and or post it up here for me.

I am descended from a ~Travis ~Reese who married Nancy Ellison. I estimate that he was born about 1740??. Nancy Ellison was born 3/21/1785 SC and died 3/22/1843 AL. They had 4 daughters that I know of.
Do you think they could be related to your family?
