Re: Reeser DNA

I recently was able to get my Uncle (the oldest male Reeser in my family) to do the DNA and I posted the results on my tree, which is public if you'd like to take a look.

If you look at the tree as well, you'll notice that I don't have a father for George Frederick Reeser. According to a lengthy obituary he was "compelled to give up his home" after he converted to Methodist from Lutheran, and does not mention his father's name. I have also paid a professional genealogist to search without any luck.

Since I cannot find a father, I cannot connect my family to the Ulrich Rieser that most Reesers can. Of course, it is possible, but it is also possible that Reeser wasn't George Frederick's original last name too!

I would appreciate any help you can provide!

Reeser DNA

My Uncle Wilbur Reese had documented our family back to William W Reese(1755-1852) and his son Jacob Reese (1786-1869). The name was spelled variously including Reiser, Reaser, Rees, Rieser. The family lived and owned property near Ulrich Reeser (1709-1784) buried Great Swamp Ch., Lower Milford Tp, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania. My uncle argued that our William was a son of Ulrich. I think this highly unlikely. However, I believe it very possible that our family is descended from the Rieser family line.

I write to this list hoping to find of a male Reeser descendant who has had genealogical DNA testing. We have two known Reese descendant - one already tested and me who will soon be tested. If someone can found we would greatly appreciate a comparison. If no match we can look elsewhere for our roots; if there is a match we will redouble our efforts to find it.

I would be happy to share my Uncle's research and my small contribution looking at the Reese-Reeser connection.

Thank you.

Paul A.

My research shows Ulrich & John Jacob Rieser (Reeser) coming to American in 1727 aboard a ship with 51 Palintinates (sp). Several family treese tell us that they originated from Bern, Canton, Switzerland. I am trying to find documentation to prove or disprove this statement. Does anyone have information to share on this.

George Frederick Reeser b. 28 Aug 1815

I have hit a wall and I am searching for the parents of George Frederick Reeser. He was born 28 Aug 1815 in Northumberland, PA. He died 30 Oct 1896 in Tidioute, PA.

He was a traveling Methodist minister after he left the Lutheran faith of his family.

The story goes that he was cut off completely from his family when he did this, and was erased from the tree. As hopeful as they may have been when they disowned George, somewhere there has got to be a record of who his parents are, and if he had any siblings.

It is possible that his father's last name was REEser, or RIEser, or REIser or even RISser.

Thanks!

Re: Sam Reeser, Tenn, ? to Iowa

Hi, my daughter is the g-grandaughter of William Henry Reeser from his first marriage which was to Frances Ellen Cottrell. She died shortly after the birth of their daughter, Frances Wilma. William then married Gladys Webster and moved to Racine, Wisconsin where he died in February of 1966. As far as I know, he only had the one child. Would like to find out if he had more. Frances Wilma (my ex-mother-in-law) was raised by her Cottrell grandparents (I think!). She married Frank Leonard and had two children, Robert born in 1941 and Eloise born in 1943. Robert is my daughter's father. I believe Samuel Reeser was born in Iowa but haven't proven that yet. I had his middle name as Harvey, as that is what he registered as for WWI. He was born 25 October 1874 and married Della R. Pruitt, b. April 1978 in Marion County, Iowa. They had two children, William and Dollie. Sam and Della apparently divorced as he later married Nellie (no last name) and had Leota, born about 1907. I think Sam's parents were John R. Reeser and a Margaret E., but again, haven't proven it yet. Let me hear from you. I'd love to compare notes. audrey6671@usfamily.net
