Stella
I have more information about Regulars in the UK, sent to me by my mother. It involves Regulars born/married/died in the UK between 1847 and 1863 (14 events in total). The town of Beaminster in Dorset is the event place in 7 of them and other Dorset towns feature in 3 of the others).
Dorset now contains Riglars (61 in total in the UK telephone directory) and Riglers (153). There are three Riglar households listed in Beaminster today.
I have no doubt that all the various spellings (Reggler / Reglar / Regler / Regular / Riggler / Riglar / Rigler are linked. The problem is that it seems likely that "spelling" mistakes have been made on a number of occasions in a number of directions. Whether we can untangle them or not remains to be seen.
I am sure you will already have come across the reference to Willis Reglar and Sarah Reglar in Harbour Grace maried in 1875 and producing a daughter in 1915, and the tombstone in the Protestant cemetery at Conception Bay North-Harbour Grace, Southside to the memory of Euphemia May Reggler beloved wife of James Reggler died 6 Jan 1936 aged 59 years.
That places Reggler, Reglar and Regular in Harbour Grace.
