John Herrold, 93, animal nutritionist
John Milton Herrold, 93, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, formerly of Douglassville, died of natural causes early Wednesday morning at Community Hospital of Lancaster.
He retired in 1976 after 13 years as an animal nutritionist for F.M. Brown, Birdsboro. He previously worked 13 years in the formulation of animal feeds for J.McKinney Willis Co. in Easton, Md. He began his career as a nutritionist at NOPCO-National Oil Products Co., Harrison, N.J., where he worked for 13 years.
A 1929 graduate of Selinsgrove High School, he studied animal husbandry for three years at Penn State Universidt, State College. He left his studies at Penn State to assist his family during the Depression.
He was a member of Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, Quarryville, and a former member of Exeter Bible Church, Birdsboro.
Active in Scouting, he served as a Boy Scout leader in Trappe, Md. An avid reader, he also enjoyed fishing.
He lived in Quarryville since 1992.
Born in Port Treverton, he was the son of the late George and Maude Reichenbach Herrold.
His wife, Sadie Marie Arbogast Herrold, died in 1999.
Surviving are a son, Dean A., married to Rhoda K. Herrold of Medford, N.J.; a daughte, Lois H., married to Lewis C. Johnson of Sun City, Hilton Head, S.C.; a granddaughter, four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beulah Brinser of Elizabethtown and Mabel Brandt of Lititz.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Levi and William E. Sr.; and a sister, Mary Bletz.
