Paul Emory 'Russ' Reimer (1st of 2 obituaries)

Paul Emory "Russ" Reimer, a resident of Woodland, Ca. since 1973, died July 12th, 2004 after a life of service to his country, community and family. Russ was born on March 27th, 1934 to Paul and Thelma (Lowery) Reimer in Enid, OK. In 1939, the family moved to San Francisco, CA. "Russ" often spoke of happy days as a young boy fishing off of the docks near fishermen's wharf.

In 1951, "Russ" joined the United States Air Force and served with distinction in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his military career, he earned a Commendation Medal for heroism and a Bronze Star for meritorious service under hostile fire. Following 20 years of dedicated service, he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1971.

"Russ" and his wife, Pat Reimer (the former Gibson Elementary School Principal) then settled their family in Woodland, CA. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Sacramento State University and began a second career as a federal employee at McClellan AFB. During this time, "Russ" also restored the family Victorian located at 656 College St. The house is now listed on the registry of historic homes in Woodland.

In his retirement years, "Russ" was active in the community. He served as a member of the Woodland Kiwanis. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Masonic Lodge. He also continued to enjoy traveling, fishing and vacationing at his cabin on the Russian River. Russ always took pride in voting and taught his children to appreciate the freedom we all share in this great country.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Pat, "Russ" is survived by his sisters Janie Lee Fitzgerald of Santa Rosa, CA as well as JeAnn Craemer and Fran Jackson of Yucca Valley, CA. He is also survived by his daughters Connie Smith and husband Dwayne and Cassie Reimer Redman and husband Frank of Woodland, CA and his son Major Russell Reimer and wife Julie of Avon Lake, OH. Four grandchildren, Jessica Smith of Sacramento, Patricia Smith of Woodland and Austin and Addison Reimer of Avon Lake, Ohio survive "Russ" also.

An open funeral service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 16th at Monument Hill Memorial Park. The family requests any donations, in lieu of flowers, be forwarded to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Office of Donor Services, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605. Kraft Bros. Paul Emory "Russ" Reimer died Monday, July 12, 2004, at age 70.

Born March 27, 1934, in Enid, Okla., Mr. Reimer was a resident of Woodland since 1973. He was the son of Paul and Thelma (Lowery) Reimer. In 1939, the family moved to San Francisco. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was preceded in death by his wife Pat Reimer, a former Gibson Elementary School Principal.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Office of Donor Services, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY, 10605.

Services: A visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., today Thursday, July 15, at Kraft Bros. Funeral Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. An open funeral service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
