Re: samuel reuben(e) Michael Henry Reuben

Keith- I read your Reuben Family posting with overwhelming hope in finding living Family Members. My GrGrandfather Michael Henry Reuben, (also found as Rheuben) was a great and honorable man, who took exceptional care of his Family. Mike was born in the U.K., between conflicting birth dates of AUGUST 1, 1893/AUGUST 1, 1889, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, ENGLAND. All records searches to date have failed. He was initially believed to have been orphaned at birth and later migrated to Canada, around 1900.
He is further believed to have traveled alone, or possibly under the British Home Children Migration. He reportedly worked at a very young age as a house servant to a wealthy English Family. Mike Reuben never spoke of his Family or early childhood.
New information suggests Mike was part of a very large Reuben Family, where his Mother died and his Father went on to remarry into another large Family.
I do have considerable English Reuben Family History to share, but at the moment am unable to locate all my files. I am more than willing to forward my files as they are located.
Please contact me directly with your return e-mail address- mbooth4@twcny.rr.com Hopeful- Mike Booth

Re: REUBEN, RHEUBEN- MICHAEL HENRY REUBEN/ RHEUBEN-
crusoe123 (View posts) Posted: 17 Mar 2007 3:40PM

Classification: Query
Surnames:
The town is called Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. There is no birth registered with the name you give. IF he got married in 1909, what age was put on his marriage certificate? Is there any other information on the marriage certificate, such as the names of either of his parents?

Hello- Thank You! for your Kindness- in replying to my Message Posting!
At the moment, here's is what I know-

Michael Henry Rheuben is my Great/Grandfather by second marriage to Lulu Tanney in Brockville, Ontario, Canada in 1909. After his marriage to Lulu, Michael later adopted my Grandmother! I do have a marriage certificate, which reflects Lulu's first marriage in 1907! I have found Michael himself to use both the Reuben and Rheuben surname spellings! He himself, has also used and I have documents which reflect the outlined conflicting surname spellings and birth dates! By all known and documented accounts, he is believed to have been born in England. He never spoke of his Father, Mother, Family, Childhood or Life in England, other than to say he (was or is believed to have been orphaned at birth) (?) he stated, he once worked as a young servant to a rich English Family! Michael Henry Rheuben was always an impeccably dressed Man, who took exceptional care of his inherited Family! He worked everyday up until his retirement in 1959 and sadly passed away on November 18, 1980 at the then reported age of 87 which reflects the August 1, 1893 birth date! Here is where it becomes very interesting- I was able to locally obtain his United States Immigration Records which more reflect his migration from Ontario, Canada to the U.S.A.-New York State, after his marriage to my Great Grandmother in 1909. The Immigration Records reflect the following "quotes" Country of birth or allegiance, "England", When born "Aug. 1, 1889" "I was born in New Castle-on-Thine North Umberland, England" "I was born on the 1st day of August, 1889 at New Castle, England".
On 8th of May 2002, I received a response from the Newcastle Registrar's Office- L A Dewison, Superintendent Registrar- who was unable to find any record of birth in a records search "from August 1889 up to the end of 1893".
Similar request for records (at about the same time) gained no return responses from either the General Records Office in Birkdale, Southport or the Child Migrant's Trust, Nottingham, U.K..
I suspect by supposition Michael may have been sent to Canada under the British Home Children Migration as he is believed to have appeared in Upper Canada, Ontario somewhere between the ages of eight and thirteen years old, possibly as old as sixteen years old(?) I have found a Michael Rubin in the 1901 Ontario, Canada Census, listed as a "boarder" with what appears to be a 1885 birth date(?) there is simply not enough information appearing to be more discernable(?) Using the English Automated Genealogy Search, I am unable to make any definitive determination(s) from the Ruben/Reuben/Rheuben listings- (?)
At the moment, I am putting together a folder with all available documents, if requested(?) If somehow there might be living Family left to Michael, I feel it is truly important for them to know what an "Honorable" and "Great Man", He truly was!!!!!! This search is in "Respect" for a Man who took exceptional care of his inherited Family!!!! Michael was a very important part of my life growing up, but lost him before I ever got the chance to learn more of his life!!!!
Your time, consideration and direction is very much valued and appreciated!!!! please e-mail anytime as often as you would like!!!! Thank You! Michael Booth & Family mbooth4@twcny.rr.com

I am looking for any information on my father's family. He never has wanted to talk much of his family or where they originated from just the "we were from NJ as far back as I know". My grandmother Myrtle Reuben dies in 1979 and my grandfather was either Edison or William Reuben he died when my father was a child. All of the Reuben family that I know of is gone with the exception of my dad, myself and two cousins. Any info on the Reuben's in NJ would be so great. By the way my father also had half siblings with the last name Nolen.

Any info re: surname Reuben or Ruben from 84 East Main Street, Norristown, PA around 1908 (before or after). My grandmother, Bessie Woolfe, from Ireland, gave his address. Others who went to that address: Bessie Isaacson, Rachel Isaacson (Bessie Isaacson's daughter), and Simon Ruben (probably they meant to write "Reuben"), Bessie Isaacson's brother.

Any Reuben's out there? I'm doing research on my husband's grandfather, Samuel A. Reuben, who changed his name to Reubene circa 1925 to avoid persecution for his Jewish heritage. I would be happy to share any information that I have.
Thanks -----nancy garrett
